I'm not familiar with the authors' blog, but they are an adorable couple who've been running a blog for almost 15 years. This is *not* a cookbook just for couples, newlyweds, date nights in. It's more of a family cookbook, with servings sizes of 4. It does have a section called "Date Night In" that has more sophisticated special-occasion flavors. But most of the dishes are family dinner friendly. And they have some really good recipes to share that all come across as tried-and-true.
I appreciate the emphasis on flavor and health. The book opens with recipes that combine beans and greens is actually very delicious-sounding ways -- like a Harvest Caesar with all the Caesar flavors as well as kale, chickpeas, red cabbage - and a Barbecue Beans and Greens which shows you how to gussy up pintos to taste like barbecue beans but fresher./healther, with some chard thrown in for good measure. There's not a recipe in this book that I wouldn't or couldn't make.
I thank Chronicle Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this cookbook in advance. I'll be purchasing it, because I know I can really use it. And I would recommend it to fans of Caro Chambers "What to Cook When You Don't Feel Like Cooking" or "The Modern Proper."
This is an absolutely incredible cookbook for any couple who are ambitious in the kitchen. My partner and I both love to cook, but we often refer to ourselves as "tension in the kitchen" because we are usually pushing past each other when we prepare meals together.
This is the solution to that while making it very sweet.
The concept of the book is so simple, yet so inventive, I am shocked I've never seen it before. Each step is assigned a person and it helps to make sure that no one steps on the toes of the other. Genius.
Aside from being totally innovative, the recipes are really good. We made the Chicken Cutlets with Honey Mustard Pan Sauce. It turned out so good and delicious. It's one of those recipes you'll make again and again.
This cookbook is perfect as a wedding or anniversary gift, or really for anyone who wants to be more organized in the kitchen with their partner. I think it would also be brilliant for a guardian who is wanting to teach a child/teen to be more skilled in the kitchen.
I love this cookbook! I don’t eat meat and there are still so many recipes that I will be adding to my recipe cards. One of the very first things my girlfriend and I did together was cook, so that aspect of this book also gets it a special commendation in my eyes. The way they break recipes up into segments for two cooks is such a cute, fun idea, and it makes me want to look at my other recipes from a new angle now. The photographs are absolutely beautiful, and I’m just glad that I’m writing this review as dinner is already in the oven! A particular stand out recipe was the chickpea curry. I have an inkling that one will be on heavy rotation.
I absolutely love the idea of this book! I've never seen anything like it. The recipes are laid out with the intention of two cooks working together with the steps divided between Cook 1 and Cook 2. The photography is beautiful, and the recipes look delicious. They are laid out by recipes for a family, for date night, or for a group. I can't wait to try out a number of them! This would be a great wedding gift!
Thank you to #NetGalley and #ChronicleBooks for a free copy of #ACoupleCooks by Sonja and Alex Overhiser. All opinions are my own.
Very good cookbook with many recipes that sound delicious. I liked the couples angle. A date night spent cooking is a wonderful idea.
I like to eat with my spouse, but I never think that cooking with her is also fascinating. With this book, I can make 100 recipes with her now.
This cookbook is showcasing the idea of bonding while cooking a meal together. It’s so cute, there is even a task symbol to show what cook 1 and cook 2 should be doing. I also think it’s really helpful to have a section for when you are just cooking for two. There are many recommendations and suggestions for substitutions when needed. It has tips for cooking as a team and as someone who finds it difficult to cook when someone else is in the kitchen I found this very helpful.
This cookbook includes sections: Everyday Dinners, Just for Two, Gatherings, Mornings, Sides, Bakes, Appetizers & Snacks, Sweets, and Drinks. It even includes sample menus, and essential kitchen gear suggestions.
Also, the way it’s laid out without any fuss just makes the pages feel soothing. The pictures are beautiful as well. I think this is a great book to have in your kitchen to help foster relationships of all kinds while also eating really tasty food.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for sharing this book with me in exchange for my honest review.
I'm picking a recipe to cook with my husband!
This book does such a great job of breaking down the labor of each recipe, and I love the color/shape coding on chef 1 and 2 to help you allocate the tasks well and work together. We love cooking together, and this book will be a fun date night activity for us.
The recipes skew to family/fine dining style based on the pictures in the book, definitely closer to fine dinning, but the recipes all look relatively simple and tasty. I don't think this is a book you couldn't use if you were new to cooking, as a matter of fact I think it might help you learn a bit if you are newer.
The couple's love of cooking together that inspired this book is very clear in the writing and setup, I definitely recommend it for couples and friends looking to make some memories in the kitchen.
The concept of this cookbook is so unique! I love cooking with my partner and it's nice to have a cookbook with tasks already divided so I don't have to try and figure out a flow on my own. The recipes range from simple to complex meals and offer a variety if tips and tricks throughout. This will make a great reference for cooking together and having fun!
A Couple Cooks - definitely interesting concept and this book has a good collection of recipes that couples can cook together. Recipes in the book are simple, organized, and clearly written. The ingredient lists are not long, so you don't get overwhelmed. Also most ingredients are very easy to find if not you already have them in your pantry. This book has lots of vegetable forward recipes which I appreciate. It isn't my first choice book to cook out of, however, when I don't feel like cooking, I'll definitely grab this one.
This was a wonderful cookbook that has great recipes and I liked the unique way this was written. The recipes are easy to follow and a great way for two to cook together!
Thank you to NetGalley and publisher for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
What a great book! A Couple Cooks by Sonja Overhiser and Alex Overhiser is such a fun and good date night idea
The recipes are easy and delicious
This book is absolutely beautiful! I love how the categories used for organizing the meals. The dishes look amazing and can suit many skill levels. I cannot wait to purchase a hard.copy of this book
This cookbook is hands down one of the most unique and brilliant I've ever seen.
The concept of a couple cooking together is wonderfully executed in this book with pre-determined recommendations of what tasks should be separated and which should be done together.
There are also wonderful tips for hosting, meals for just two and the variety of recipes is splendid from meals to desserts to even beverages.
I highly recommend this book!
Thank you NetGalley, Chronicle Books, Sonja Overhiser and Alex Overhiser for giving me an ARC of this awesome cookbook!
3.5 Stars. This review is based on actually trying out some recipes, not just the idea of the cookbook.
I liked that this cookbook had steps divided by person. I tried a few recipes with my husband and they had easy steps. We both thought everything lacked flavor though. Super simple, but I like to add more spice to my cooking. I think it is a great starter cookbook for couples just beginning to cook together, but everything was just okay. The tips were a nice touch and I liked the pairing options, especially the wine.
This cookbook is a delightful guide for cooking in pairs, emphasizing how food can strengthen bonds. While it's aimed at couples, its recipes are adaptable for families and friends cooking together, fostering a sense of community. With a focus on everyday meals and a variety of dishes from breakfast to desserts, accompanied by helpful photographs, it's a great resource for anyone looking to create tasty meals while enjoying good company.
One of my favorite date night activities is to cook together making this cookbook a perfect fit for my hubby and I. We choose a recipe together, make a list, shop and the share the cooking responsibilities. These recipes are easy to follow and clear to understand.
I really appreciate the concept of splitting the cooking/assembly/baking by 2 partners. My SO does not cook and this is helpful to be able to visualize and show how they can help.
Love the photos, font, the bits of background on a dish, and what to pair it with.
The recipes themselves were easy and nothing groundbreaking or new. I did appreciate that there were many vegetarian options. Love good tofu representation.
My one nitpick is that the chicken gyros were not gyros, they were chicken souvlaki at best. But that's just my ant hill.
I really enjoyed this cookbook as someone who has a partner that does not like cooking. This book broke down some steps that a cooking partner can take to share in the process of making dinner or other meals. I really enjoyed having a note for each recipe about storage for the recipe, sometimes I wonder how long something will stay good for if it is too many servings for two people. I found the authors to be relatable and enjoyed the tips for making cooking together a fun experience. I would highly recommend this book as a fun wedding shower gift add-on!
I really would love to read this cookbook & test out the recipes with my husband. However, I'm unable to.get the file to.open :(. Ill look for this when it officially hits n the shelves!
