Witty in Pink by Erica George is a charming Regency romance filled with humor and heartfelt moments. The witty banter and slow-burn romance make for an engaging read. Perfect for fans of historical romance with a fun twist.

1- Characters

I loved the characters in this. I’m new to reading Historical Romance, but the characters in this one were great. I loved the family dynamic and the relationship between Blythe and her cousins in this one. Briggs had an interesting relationship with his brothers that was interesting to read about. Briggs’s friends were interesting to read about, and added an interesting dynamic as well.

2- The Setting

I loved the setting in this. I love a historical setting, and this one had houses in London, and in the country which I loved. I thought the setting added a great background to the story, and the nature areas were great.

3- The Tropes

I’m a fan of enemies to lovers, or frenemies to lovers, and this book had a great dynamic, Blythe and Briggs had a past which was great, but after an event, they were considered enemies. I’m not the biggest fan of love triangles, but it worked well here. Forced Proximity was at play here, and that was a great because both characters needed each others help. Blythe was ahead of her time, and I love books with characters like that.

4- Great Writing

If you like the writing style of Bridgerton, and enjoy YA novels try this book out. I loved the dual point-of-view chapters because you got both main characters’ perspectives on the events of the story. I loved how the writing style was historical, but in a way that someone who doesn’t read a ton of historical romance can still follow along, and enjoy the story and the characters. There was a mixture of light-hearted scenes, along with ones with the characters being more vulnerable and having great discussions. The dialogue throughout the book was funny and witty.

5- Plot

This book was interesting because it doesn’t follow a typical historical romance in my opinion. How the characters meet again was similar to a typical historical romance, and I enjoyed that. As the story progresses we see more and more of the characters, and their love for bees, and trying to save the bees. There was also a lovely friendship of Blythe and Briggs finding each other again after five years which was great to see. I also loved the family dynamics of this book, and how the parents in the story didn’t force a match on their kids, but let it happen naturally over time.

I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was a very cute story and while definitely YA, I would also say that there is a nice slow-burn with one scene that is quite steamy (no spice though).

Not one of my absolute favorites, but also not a bad story, and I enjoyed reading it. I would definitely recommend and also read more from this author in the future.

Also reviewed for School Library Journal. A good young adult rom com. Uses the friends to lovers trope.

This was such a fun read! I do feel like this was more of a mature, closed-door historical romance rather than a YA historical romance. The banter was a delight!

I didn't dislike "Witty in Pink" but I did not particularly like it either. The plot is not revolutionary - friends to enemies to frenemies decide to work together to help accomplish their individual goals - but that would have been fine had it been done better. I just kept getting caught in the plot holes. Like, how did Blythe not break something in her childhood fall? How exactly is she setting up hives on other properties (or even her own)? Is she doing the building? Just the designing? And I really dislike when a MMC pursues someone who is not the main love interest until almost the end of the book, especially when the pursuit ends not because of the MMC taking solid proactive steps but rather because the non-main interest or some other external factor causes the pursuit to end.

I think this book could be lovely for other readers, it just didn't connect for me.

2 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a complimentary copy of this book. These opinions are my own.

I thought this was a fun story idea for a regency romance. I liked Blythe and Briggs so much. I really enjoyed reading about them overcoming their history (the prank) and moving forward.

Is anyone else in their ✨regency romance era✨ 🫖🎀? If so, you’re going to want to put this one on your tbr posthaste!

A truly delightful YA nemesis to lovers regency romance. A very light and fun read in perfect proportions of sweet, sassy, and hilarious.

I absolutely loved the “witty” banter the book presumably gets its name from between strong-willed Blythe and stubborn Briggs and the love-hate mayhem they create before agreeing to secretly band together to achieve their goals, becoming close along the way.

OUT NOW!

Thank you so much to Entangled and Erica for the early e-galley! I loved being part of Erica’s street team for this release 💕

This charming YA historical rom com had me hanging on every word. From that dramatic third act, to the long haul pining after eachother it was easy to lose myself in Briggs and Blythes story.

While some may have found the third act dramatics a little much, I feel like they fit the regency time period. The frenemies to lovers and the banter involved was absolutely perfect and the chemistry had me wanting more. The growth seen between the pages is perfect, especially for a younger audience. The way George navigated a MMC that had to learn how love is, in comparison to how his parent’s love was, was phenomenal and incredibly relatable.

Blythe and Briggs have been each other’s nemesis since childhood, but now the futures of their families may rely on them forming a partnership. Blythe’s family’s fortunes have taken a turn for the worse. Her parents are convinced that the only way she can help is to marry into money, but Blythe has a better idea: convincing members of the ton to hire her to set up and manage apiaries on their estates, as she has on her own. The biggest barrier? Getting introductions to the right people, those who will take her ideas seriously and who have the means to invest in them. Briggs’ family is also in financial straits, due to the debts of his now-deceased father, and they are at risk of losing their house and lands. He sees the chance to save them all by marrying his friend’s cousin, Sabrina, but she seems to be the one person upon whom his charm and good looks have no effect. Blythe and Briggs strike a deal: Briggs will introduce Blythe to potential investors if she will help him woo Sabrina. But as they spend time together, the absence of their childhood enmity may create space for new, more dangerous emotions. Hand this fun (and often funny) Regency romance to teen fans of Bridgerton.

I absolutely fell in love with "Whitty Pink." It's my first YA historical romance and my first Erica George book. The characters and plot were fantastic, and the story was exceptionally well-written.

Although it had a slow burn at times, it definitely kept me engaged. I enjoy a good enemies-to-lovers story and adored the banter between Blythe and Briggs!! It seriously had me all up in my Bridgerton feels!!

Also, I'm often asked for good book recommendations for a teen romance, and I think "Whitty Pink" is perfect! Keep an eye out for this one as it releases August 6th!

Thank you to Entangled Teen and the author for sending over this advanced reader's copy.

"Witty in Pink" was a fun read.

I don't think I have read many YA historical romances, but this made me feel as though I might be missing out. Erica George created lovable main characters and it had the classic enemies to lovers trope which I adore. There were a few moments that felt a little long but it was still good nonetheless.

Thank you NetGalley and Entangled for selecting me for this ARC. I enjoyed it.

This story was okay. There was nothing unique about it tho. Wish there was more heat in it. I did like the characters and their relationship but i kind of wanted more push and pull between them. The build up was lacking.

This was a sweet historical romcom, which is exactly what I expected. I enjoyed the story and characters.

This was a fun regency romcom!
There was some drama towards the end I didn’t totally care for but overall this was cute and enjoyable. It could probably have been shortened in a few places to be honest but again, still enjoyable! Seeing Briggs development was one of the best parts of the story.

I feel like I might have been the only person who didn’t like this book. I just felt like it written for older teens but the plot was so simple it was boring. And then the ending felt like it got rid of all character development.

Oh this was fantastic. I loved every second of this. It's my favourite kind of historical, where it's still got more modern sensibilities from our main characters but they get to wear fancy vintage clothes. I just think this was so delightful. The romance had me absolutely kicking my feet- seriously it is so freaking cute. I thought the plot was really good, and I really loved Blythe.
