What is better than enemies to lovers? Enemies who prank each other before they become lovers. It’s because it starts when they’re kids and he’s an immature boy whose emotional maturity is to tease the girl he likes. It leaves her confused and hurt despite her previous crush, but she’s strong willed enough to give it right back to him. He’s been crushing too but subconsciously unaware.
Then he enlists her to play matchmaker for him but she accidentally falls for him in the process. Is that a trope? If not, it should be.
It’s hard to find a good YA regency romance. This is like Bridgerton for teens.
The humor is witty earning the title. The characters are 3 dimensional and modern minded in a misogynistic time.
She’s not a shiny, quiet, proper lady. She’s an outspoken, opinionated girl with a blossoming beekeeping business who can make her own money and put boys in their place.
He’s disappointed with the financial mess his late father left him and trying to do the right thing for his family and estate while being torn by the need to be respectful of his late father’s memory, falling in love with someone who will not be able to help him resolve his financial problems, etc.
They have personal and societal barriers to conquer before they can have their HEA. But they get there and, it’s a slow burn, but worth it.
I loved the story, the world building and meeting the different characters. I felt completely immersed in the story and couldn't stop reading it.
I absolutely adored the setting of this Bridgerton era.
This was an enemies to lovers, slow burn with a strong female character lead.
Blythe: the keeper of the bees. She doesn’t want to just be a wife she wants her own apiary business and has a solid plan to get it. But in order to do so she must strike a deal with the boy her embarrassed her greatly long ago, Briggs.
Briggs: Newly head of the estate, trying to pick up the pieces his late father left him to deal with. He strikes a deal to help fix the situation but ultimately he needs to decide to marry for love or duty.
Again, this story was an adorable, no pun intended, witty romance. I just need a little more character building on Sabrina Dixon. It’s like she does a complete 180 out of nowhere.
I was granted this ARC by Entangled Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
What an absolute delight. Blythe and Briggs are true enemies from childhood and then one day years later they run into each other and see how much they’ve truly changed. The fun starts when these two enter into a business proposal to help Blythe start her bee business - in the time where women were not owning businesses - and in exchange Briggs needs help wooing a wife with a large dowry to keep his families estate that his father gambled away. Family and friends round out a fun group of characters that have to deal with these two and their denial of feelings. I thoroughly enjoyed this historical romance that has more modern aspects to it. It’s marketed as a YA/teen book but it doesn’t feel immature - it’s a great book for teens and adults alike.
This book was such a fun read and if you enjoy Bridgerton or the regency era I think it will be a hit for you. I really enjoyed watching the characters relationship form, both developing feelings and thinking it was unrequited. Not to mention the witty banter that had me hooked.
All the pleasure of reading Jane Austen and watching your favorite rom com combined, WITTY IN PINK is a total joy.
Told from the POV of Blythe and Briggs, childhood acquaintances who taunt each other as signs of love develop, both characters more than hold their own in Erica George's wonderfully crafted and delightfully written book that takes readers to the 19th Century English countryside. Blythe is an aspiring businesswoman struggling against social norms and Briggs is a charming heir with a secret.
Readers will love this do they/don't they, will they/won't they story.
Thank you to Entangled and NetGalley for an ARC.
Witty in Pink is the perfect book for Bridgerton fans! Enjoy this fun-filled romp through a regency frenemies to lovers rom-com between strong, independent Blythe who is trying to start her own business and Briggs, the cavalier, young man, who has family secrets he doesn't want known. Will they, won't they? It seems they are destined to be apart, but the attraction keeps drawing them together. Enjoy this book on a sun-filled beach or by the pool with an iced cold glass of your favorite beverage...with a little honey added in!
Thank you for the Arc!
I enjoyed this quick YA Historical Romance. It got me out of a reading slump.
Friends/Enemies to Lovers
Matchmaking
Bantering
Bees 🐝
I enjoyed Blythe and Briggs story and wouldn't mind if she wrote a story about the lovable side characters.
This was such a cute read. Entangled never disappoints. Thank you guys so much for sending me an eARC.
Thank you so much to entangled teen, NetGalley and of course the lovely Brittany.
I got so excited to receive this arc.
It’s like frenimies to lovers.
Childhood banter and grudge.
He falls first? I think that’s up for debate on my part lol
I felt like a mixture of Mr. Darcy and Miss Elizabeth and Colin Penelope. Which I loved.
This gave all the right feelings.
Made me laugh, the anticipation (reading ahead when I shouldn’t just to find the answer lol)
Made me cry.
I love how it ended, △⃒⃘Lways bantering.
It just gave me all the giddy feelings.
Loved it every second of it.
If you are a fan of regency era settings, I recommend you pick this one up. It focuses more on those individuals that live outside the ton and gives a slightly different perspective than binging Bridgerton. You should know going into this that it is a romance novel, and that the plot very much revolves around that and the experiences of those characters. That being said, the characters are highly intriguing and even the secondary characters are well-developed. I liked Blythe’s independent and business natured mindset, even if she could also be insufferable at times. The romance was nicely done as characters skirted around one another. Historically speaking, I’m not exactly sure how accurate this is as a representation of the time period. It felt like there were several times where things didn’t historically make sense. If that’s not something that you would get bothered by though, it is worth the read for the entertaining story.
Oh so witty and wonderful, WITTY IN PINK is sheer delight! I loved this Regency romance for its warmth, its humor, and its heart. While WITTY IN PINK firmly sits in the tradition of true slow-burn romance, George effortlessly leads us into a world that also feels somehow very contemporary, and of the moment. Full of wit, and humor, I completely fell into Blythe and Briggs' world and was very sad to leave it. But, like a tall glass of lemonade on a hot summer's day, the ending was so perfect, and hit in all the best ways so I won't complain.
Thank you to Entangled and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this perfect love story.
I was looking for a swoony regency romance to help me pass the time between Bridgerton seasons, and Witty in Pink was just what I needed.
Witty in Pink follows the story of our two main characters, Blythe and Briggs, childhood friends who haven’t spoken to each other in years after a prank gone awry. Now, years later, they’re reacquainted again, deciding to set their differences aside and help each other get what they want this season: Briggs to marry a rich heiress and Blythe to start her apiary.
To be completely honest, this book didn’t buy me from the start. I didn’t love the use of modern language in a regency setting and found the first few chapters so slow that it almost got me into a reading slump. But as soon as the romance started to take off, I was hooked. I loved watching a relationship develop between our main characters, and both of them pining for the other, thinking their love is unrequited. In the end, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this story and how much of it I read in a single setting.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
An absolute delight! Regency has such a special place in my heart, and Witty in Pink hit all of the right notes. This book has everything, and it's perfect for Bridgerton fans.
✨My honeybee come and get this YA histrom 🍯🐝✨
I gain another infinity stone each time I read a new YA historical romance!!! And this one was a lot of fun and reminded me a smidge of Hathor and the Prince (an all time favorite of mine—it’s adult but almost felt like a new adult historical!). Be sure to give this a read if you love YA and want to get into historical romance:
✨YA regency romcom
✨Childhood pining to enemies to friends to lovers
✨Secondary romance
✨Dramatic third act
✨Beekeeping
✨He kept a Matthew Swift-esque token of her in his pocket for years
✨Matchmaking
✨Pride and Prejudice type relationship
I will say I was a bit thrown by some things that happened in the second half of the book…there were just some character developments that were a bit out of the blue and confusing. Then, the third act was pretty dramatic and a combination of several things that just get under my skin: familial duty, choosing the wrong person out of duty, saving the family from debts that they didn’t cause, confusingly spiteful villain. I ended the book having a good time, but I was a bit exasperated.
I’m hoping there will be a second book as I enjoyed the characters and the world. This would be a great intro to historical romance for any age group, but especially teens looking for something a little different. I enjoyed it now, but I know I would’ve LOVED this book back when I was a YA myself.
⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/5
I received an eARC from the publisher. All opinions are honest and my own.
Blythe and Briggs are know each other since they were kids and when they were teen she developed a crush on him been an older boy . Then he and his rich aristocratic friends pranked her and humiliated her infront of her family so now they are frenemies . They both are in desperate need for money so they need money him so his family won't have to sell his family house and so he must marry a woman with a dowry and she must find investors for her bees apiaries . They agree to help each other but what happens when they can't stop about each other ?
Will they choose with their heart or their mind ?
I received this book from netgalley and the publicer as an ARC . Thank you . All thoughts and opinions are my own .
A fun sweet read! Highly recommend.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my ARC.
Now the person I loathe the most in this world is just as trapped as I am―both penniless and our households depending on us to save them. And I think I know how. All I have to do is play nice with the very devil I’ve sworn to hate…
I do love a good frenemies vibe and this book has it well written. There is witty banter, it is essentially YA Bridgerton and I am here for it. I will be recommending this book all over the place to any YA lovers.
First, I’d like to thank the Publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.
This is an exceptionally cute regency story. One thing that I actually enjoyed was the modern language throughout. It gave a more Bridgerton feel vs a Pride and Prejudice vibe. The witty banter between Briggs and Blythe was great. I found myself chuckling at a lot of their banter and back handed sly remarks.
This is a fun, slow burn, enemies to lovers type book and perfect for a teen/early young adult reader.
I enjoyed this book immensely. It was a quick and easy read. A nice palate cleanser. I feel like the romance was just enough for this time piece read- not overly spicy but just the right amount of seasoning.
This book was just what I wanted to read. If you are looking for a book to help you out of a Bridgerton slump. This book is for you. I absolutely loved the slow burn romance and the witty banter.
