YA + Regency cannot be the formula to a book any less than 4 stars for me!! This book had a really sweet romance and an interesting plot. I'm disappointed I couldn't read it when I first received the arc.
A mature, closed door historical romance which was fun and entertaining. The plot was good but sometimes it felt exaggerated.
I was smiling the whole time while reading this :) The characters were matured and well developed. The banter was so funny and enemies to lovers trope has my heart. I have never read anything before from Erica but now I am going to read other works by her.
“Witty in Pink” 4/5⭐️
(Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book!)
My historical romance obsession is still going strong! 🤭 Naturally, I picked up “Witty in Pink.” (I mean just look at how beautiful that cover is!)
This book follows Blythe as her childhood nemesis, Briggs, comes to stay with her family over the summer. His presence makes everything more complicated. Blythe has to make a favorable match for the well-being of her family. However, she’d rather pursue a business venture, selling honey, but to do so, she would need investors. On the other hand, Briggs desperately needs money. Can they work together to find a solution to their financial troubles?
Overall, I thought this book was super cute! I liked both Blythe and Briggs and their chemistry. This book is YA, so take that into consideration!
I can’t wait to see what Erica George writes next! If you’re interested, this book is out now! 🐝✨🫶🏻
This book made me happy. This was such a good story. Briggs has my heart. I love the story of him and Blythe. It was just so good! I would love a sequel of some sort just to visit these characters and the rest of the characters again.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-arc in exchange of an honest review.
This was a thoroughly entertaining read. The witty frenemies to lovers banter made for delicious sizzle. Blythe and Briggs are the perfect loathe to love couple. This story is both sweet and funny with characters that you can’t help but root for. It shows how easily things can be mixed up when we don’t have all the facts. Blythe is such a strong female lead. She shows a strength of character that is a wonderful example for young girls. This is a fabulous story for young and old alike.
Witty in Pink was the perfect regency romance to read on a sunny sunmer’s day. It had all of the banter and pining that i was hoping for, and i was genuinely so entertained while reading it. I loved both Blythe and Briggs so much. Every time they interacted, i felt like i was hanging onto every word they said to each other. Their dynamic was everything, and the dual pov was perfect. Blythe was ambitious and inspiring, and Briggs always supported her. The ending was so so good with the way every piece of the story connected and fell into place. Erica George did everything right with this one.

Witty in Pink is a YA historical romcom in the vein of Bridgerton. Blythe was pranked by Briggs when she was a young teen and has been his sworn enemy ever since, until this summer when they team up to help find each other money-matches to save their families’ finances. Blythe wants to start a beekeeping business and Briggs needs to marry a rich girl to recoup all the money his late father gambled away. Unfortunately for them, it’s hard to fall in love with someone else when you’re already falling for the frenemy next door.
Westley and Julian were the sweet best friends who were also in love and I need to read a Westlian book ASAP please!!
I thought the book was really cute. I liked the characters, I liked the writing, and I always love an enemies-to-lovers trope. That said, I had two issues with it:
1. I think the book was a little bit too long, especially for YA, and there were times that the plot didn’t seem to go anywhere for several chapters. I found myself choosing to listen to music instead of the book when things were moving slow, and that’s never a good sign for an avid reader like myself.
2. It felt modern while being set in 1812. There were many times where unmarried young women were alone with men (the scandal!) and though they were 18, the girls all acted like they were 25. Other than lacking the modern-day conveniences of cell phones and Amazon to order a new pink dress, the whole book could’ve taken place in 2024 and I would’ve believed it more because every character acted like part of GenZ. I don’t care which era the book is in, but it needs to be (more) true to that era throughout, not a mashup of two dates that are 200+ years apart.
Thank you to NetGalley, Entangled Publishing, and Entangled Teen for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
“Confidence, wit, and unparalleled beauty? I didn’t prepare for that kind of amalgamation, so I did what any self-respecting person would. I teased her. Better that she hates me than ignores me, I suppose.”
If you’re a fan of Bridgerton and verbal sparring, then you need to read this YA historical romance!
Blythe and Briggs are childhood nemeses who are surprised to discover how well the other grew up when they meet again for the first time in 4 years. But of course they still hate each other…right? Their clever arguments and insults were so funny, they constantly had me laughing.
They fall into an uneasy alliance, with Briggs agreeing to help introduce Blythe to investors for her beekeeping business if she helps him secure a wealthy wife to save his ancestral house. As they continue to work together, they’re surprised by each other’s thoughtfulness and care. Watching them go from assuming the worst of each other to realizing who they actually were was so lovely!
The setting was wonderfully described, with just the right amount of beautiful dresses, manors, and balls that you’d expect from a regency story. The romance was swoonworthy and at times heartbreaking as obstacles stood in their way. And both main characters were so detailed, I really enjoyed both of their POVs.
Overall, this was such a fun romantic read, and any fan of Bridgerton is sure to love it!
1.5/5 This book is absolutely so boring. I kept getting the characters confused because there weren't any distinguishing characteristics. They all seem the same. And the poshness was super annoying. I did finish the book though. Even though it was super slow and the burn was burning hard.
Aww this book was so cute. I really loved the banter between Blythe and Briggs.
Especially the beginning when they met again after five years.
They both were just so into not saying what they truly wanted. Briggs because he wanted to save his family and take blame for things. Don't want to give away what. All the whole time reading this thinking come on guys just admit things. And Briggs brother August was cool, I did like how he was so matter of fact about everything.
I do understand what Briggs was thinking and trying to do things on not letting the family down nor letting them know anything. I felt bad for him for carrying the weight of that.
This book is told from two different p.o.v. I do enjoy that a lot with books.
DNF at 32%. This isn't a terrible book by any means, but I'm not feeling it like I was hoping I would. I know from reading other regency era-set books that the plot comes from character interactions and scandal more than anything, but that sense of urgency was lost pretty early on when Blythe's reputation wasn't tarnished from the garden kiss and Mr. Dormer was paired off with someone else. The vibe was like one of those lazy summer days when you're only half-aware of what's happening because everything feels thick as molasses and time is slowed down. I'll try to. come back to this at another time, because what I read was okay, and the relationship between Blythe and Briss has potential.
Perfect book to tame your bridgerton era after the season three release! I loved the banter and the victorian era setting, a light fun read!
I LOVED THIS BOOK. I barely remember this book now (because I swear I reviewed it right after I read it but I guess not...), but I do know that it sort of has the failed matchmaker trope AND childhood friends to enemies to lovers which is actually elite in my opinion. I love getting to see more YA/NA historical romances because I feel like authors like Erica George get to play with the genre in such a fun way.
I really love seeing historical romance that is YA! It can be a tricky genre to write as YA because these stories so often revolve around marriage. In this case, Blythe and Briggs grew up together so we get to see moments from when they were children and teenagers though they are young adults at the time the story takes place.
The enemies-to-lovers dynamic was fun and I liked that Blythe and Briggs both had their own goals and issues to overcome. I loved Blythe's interest in bees in particular and loved reading about her attempts to create her own business.
If you are looking for a historical romance for a teenager or want a closed-door historical romance this is a good choice. I did struggle a bit with the mean girl dynamic that went on a bit here but it felt believable with the characters being on the younger side.
With themes from Pride and Prejudice I expected to love Witty in Pink by Erica George from start to finish. I enjoy reading historical fiction, especially historical romance, from this time period but somethings just didn't work for me. First, I felt the story was a bit too long at 400 pages. This gave way to a lot of filler scenes that didn't really help the story, and leads into my next issue, it was long yet the characters remained largely underdeveloped. I did enjoy the overall banter between Blythe and Briggs, and felt they had some chemistry during the book, but there was more telling then showing. The overall storyline was good, but I struggled with the pacing and continuing to stay invested became difficult.
Thank you Entangled Press for the gifted ARC.
Sweet Regency romance featuring a strong female lead and a flawed male counterpart who must together overcome societal and personal conflicts to find love where they should always have been looking. I enjoyed the picturesque settings, the interesting side characters, and the prickly interpersonal knots that had to be untied. If you’re a fan of Austen, this one is a winner!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy. These opinions are my own.
5 out of 5 stars
Thank you to @netgalley, @entangledteen, @turnthepagetours, @theericageorge for a copy of this ebook and physical book in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely LOVED this book. It gave me the vibes of all of the regency and other historical romances that I love. I get the most vibes from Gilbert Blythe and Anne Shirley and Elizabeth and Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. The tension between the two characters was so well done. The romance felt like it progressed naturally and both characters motivations were interesting and made sense. I loved Blythe's obsession with bees and creating apiaries. I think it absolutely added a unique spin on the story that I don't always see. Plus, this book looks absolutely fabulous on my shelf. The pink is so vibrant!

Witty in Pink by Erica George surprised me in so many ways, all of them positive!
I am usually hesitant to read YA/New Adult romances, because at 43, I don't feel like the stories will resonate with me as much. However, this book was so smart and sweet that I was hooked from the first page!
I loved the rivalry between Blythe and Briggs, and the ever-present tension between them. The incident that occurred between them years ago is a wedge between them and the tension between them builds as their growing affection blossoms. Blythe's reticence to accept that Briggs is now a man who doesn't resemble the boy who once hurt her is believable. There's no point in which I thought Blythe was being overly stubborn or precious about her memories of the event.
Brigg's journey from a boy to a man is depicted so well His eventual determination to become involved in his estate and tenants is borne from a desire to be a better man overall, and is inspired by Blythe.
I was truly rooting for the two of them, both individually and as a duo. The author writes the characters so authentically, and I was absolutely swooning by the end. While this is definitely not an adult romance, there was just enough warmth to satisfy my spice-loving heart.
A really excellent read by a new-to-me author that I will definitely read again!
Thanks NetGalley and Entangled for the ARC!
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great mix of funny and interesting, with a plot outside the romance. I really enjoyed the two characters and the friends-to-enemies-to-lovers dynamic.
