It's a truth universally acknowledged that... Witty in Pink is a charming romance that I thoroughly enjoyed reading! I found myself strolling in the shade on sprawling country estates and dancing coyly at high-society balls in Regency-era England. The best treat was the chemistry and developing relationship between childhood frenemies, Blythe and Briggs.
The characters and their interactions drive the story, and they all captured my heart! Blythe is known for her sharp wit and independent spirit. She finds herself torn between marrying well to ensure her family's financial security and defying societal norms to own her own apiary business. On the other hand, Briggs presents himself as an over-confident flirt, but the reader soon finds his hidden vulnerabilities and a shameful family secret. However, these flaws make him endearing as he grapples with the expectations of him in his new role as the head of his family.
As Blythe and Briggs increasingly find themselves moving in the same social circles, their relationship evolves from spirited banter and misunderstandings to a true romance where both grow to appreciate the other’s strengths, flaws, and feelings. Unfortunately, they must try their best to resolve the many hurdles, challenges, and plot twists that pull them apart.
I love how Erica George draws on the craft of Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte. She captivates readers with a beautifully woven story that has both light-hearted romance and emotional depth. Witty in Pink was a delightful read, so much so that I hope there’s a sequel in the future!
This book was so entertaining from start to finish. The banter between the main characters was so fun to read and I loved how they genuinely went from being enemies to friends. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed this book and now I want to look for other similar books. Blythe is such a refreshing character she's a very kind person but knows her worth. Unlike other young ladies around her she wants something more for herself. She does not want to just marry for convenience even though it would surely help her family if she decided to marry a wealthy suitor. Another thing that was nice to see was LGBTQ+ representation and how supportive our main characters were of them.
Thank you to Entangled for the ARC!
Two childhood rivals, a summer bargain and a love of bees.
Blythe is determined to get her honeybee business up and running in a world where women must rely on men for survival.
Biggs must find a way to secure funds to protect his family from the damage his father caused. Will his plan be enough to save them all from ruin? If only he could tell Blythe the real reason he's so determined to fix the trail of destruction.
Assumptions, secrets, and a proposal make this a fun story of salvation.
*thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
What a beautiful and delightful read! This got me out of my reading slump and I enjoyed it immensely! I appreciated the witty and humorous writing and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised this being a ya . I would definitely recommend to people wanting to try historical romance . You are in for a fun ride!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC! I was so excited to read it after binging the latest season of Bridgerton!
I wish something like this had been around when I was first getting into reading romance as a teen, I would have loved it and it might’ve sparked my interest in historical romance much earlier. This is a great entry point with enough of the genre to fit in well while still being approachable. A fun plot, characters, and details. Great job!
This cover, this title and these characters are all so perfect I want to frame them and live inside them. Not inside the characters, that would be weird. I LOVE Young Adult regency romance. There is something so pure and cozy and fun about this setting and that age. I love the wit and the charm imbedded into every page of this.
In the beginning, it was quite difficult for me to really get into the book because the language used was the typical old regency type. But still, I loved the banter between Briggs & Blythe. I enjoyed seeing them together and the slow burn was good but I would've loved it if they got together sooner than they did tbh. I liked how focused and serious Blythe was about her career and Brigg's character development was good too. But I think I had developed huge expectations from this book and it somehow fell flat. The first few chapters had a very slow pacing too, but I enjoyed reading the last half. Overall, it was a very fun, ligh -hearted and fast story but I think the romance should've been developed a bit more because the chemistry between Blythe & Briggs was definitely charming.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review
Something about this fell ever so slightly flat for me unfortunately; but this book has some fantastic reviews so it’s definitely just a personal disconnect!! I liked it well enough but I just wasn’t enamoured with it - my attention wandered, I didn’t really think about what was coming next while I wasn’t reading, and I wasn’t overly invested in any particular character (though I do have an affection for Blythe and her bees). The language is very easy to follow and this would be a great entry point to historical fiction/e x t r e m e l y slow burn regency romance for younger readers.
I love this book so much! It is a refreshing take on the Regency romance that’s sure to delight. Erica George brings us Blythe Rowley, a heroine with a plan to save her family and Briggs Goswick, the society gentleman who’s more than he seems. Their sparks fly in a tale of unexpected partnership and romantic sparks. I had to laugh out loud "Well, pluck my feathers and shove me in the oven,".
This book stands out for its lively characters and a heroine who’s ahead of her time. It’s a quick, enjoyable read that blends classic romance with modern wit. Perfect for fans of lighthearted historical romances, “Witty in Pink” is a charming story that proves love and laughter go hand in hand.
Highly recommended!!
Witty in Pink is a fun historical romance about two enemies that join together. I enjoyed the characters and setting, however the bee business had me a bit confused as far as careers she could have pursued. I would still recommend this as it is written well and is great for all the Bridgerton fans waiting for the next season.
What an absolute treat of a read! Erica George gives us all the delight of a regency romance, but with a pitch-perfect dash of contemporary sensibility. The enemies-to-lovers narrative is a joy, the dialogue sparkles, the nineteenth century comes to life on the page, and both Blythe and Briggs are swoon-worthy. So many scenes left my heart all aflutter. WITTY IN PINK is a total charmer.
Based on the summary, I was excited to start this book. However, I could not make myself sit down to read it. I loved the fact that she was so into bee keeping but it wasnt enough.
Witty in Pink is a fun and cute historical fiction with an enemies to lovers trope. Briggs and Blythe's relationship really evolved as the story progressed and that was fun to see. I loved how independent Blythe was especially in that time of history. Many women weren't. This story defiantly has Bridgerton vibes, so if that is something you really enjoy, you will love Witty in Pink. We have humor, pranks, enemies, and then lovers. Perfect for a happy ending!
Witty in pink is an enemies to lovers and rom-com set in the Regency period, perfect for lovers of Pride and Prejudice, The Bridgertons and Little Women.
This book stars Blythe and Briggs. Blythe is a girl ahead of her time and her love for bees leads her to have a business vision and wants to start in the world of beekeeping, together with her cousin Julian, in order to dedicate herself to what she likes most and help her family in their needs with money. And Briggs has returned after a long time to find a way to pay off the debts left by his father after his death. Without time to mourn him, he has to find a woman of good standing to marry and thus use the wedding dowry and not lose his house and land, a very important place for him, his mother and his brother. Briggs needs to conquer a girl, Blythe needs investors for her beekeeping business, what better than two people who need something and can help each other? All well and good if it weren't for the fact that Blythe and Briggs have had a bad relationship since they were children.
I loved this story from beginning to end, so much so that it had me hooked and at times I couldn't (or didn't want to) stop reading. Its strong points are its characters, they have a lot of charisma and their interactions when they get together are unbeatable, they leave you with a silly smile on your face, with a loud laugh or with tears of emotion. I also loved that the chapters are short and have a double point of view, something that makes reading more enjoyable. I loved being able to get to know each character and their evolution, as people and their feelings, in each chapter and in first person. You can see how with each day they spend together the relationship of the main characters becomes closer, putting aside those quarrels that separated them.
In addition to the protagonists, I loved Julian as a character. I love that mischief he has and shows, and at the same time how protective he is of his cousin Blythe. Of the secondary characters, he is my favorite without a doubt.
As I said at the beginning, it is a perfect book for fans of Little Women, because of how brave and enterprising Blythe is (she reminds me a lot of Joe), of Pride and Prejudice, because of that love/hate relationship that the protagonists have in the style of Elizabeth and Darcy (but younger), and of the Bridgertons, because of the time in which it is set, the dances, the romances, the rumors and the characters who are not what they seem. I highly recommend Witty in Pink and I hope that some Spanish publisher gives it a chance, it is very worthwhile.
*Many thanks to the publisher for sending the advanced digital copy in exchange for my most sincere opinion*
This was a really cute and fun enemies to lovers historical fiction story. I really appreciated the feminist ideals woven in as well as the bee appreciation! The romance is really enjoyable to read, for both the main and side characters. Overall, a super light and frothy story, perfect for summer!
Wow! This is my first regency novel I have read before and I was hooked. I read Witty in Pink in less than 24 hours because I simply could not put it down! The writing flowed so well and the story was so paced. I love the evolution of Briggs and Blythe’s tumultuous relationship. Blythe is a spunky, independent young lady not entirely interested in marriage of necessity but would rather find success in her entrepreneurial ventures. Meanwhile Briggs, her childhood nemesis turned crush turned nemesis, is trying to find a way to save the estate he loves after his late father left them in dire straits. Blythe and Briggs join an alliance to help one another that ultimately does not pan out as they originally expected. I am grateful to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this swoon worthy story in advance of the publication.
I love this book so much! Such a fun and sweet YA regency romance! The setting, vibes, and banter were top notch. I absolutely adored both Blythe and Briggs and their story was just perfect! If you like the balls and boxing matches if Bridgerton, this one is for you.
Thank you Netgalley and Entangled Teen for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
"Witty in Pink" by Erica George is a delightful regency romance that sparkles with wit, charm, and heart. If you’re a fan of “Bridgerton,” then you would definitely enjoy this book. I would actually recommend this book to newcomers of the regency romance genre as I think this is a good introductory story to introduce you to the elements of regency romance with some of the classic romance troupes we all know and love.
Set in the regency era, the book follows the story of Blythe and Briggs, childhood friends turned arch-nemeses. When circumstances force them to set aside their differences and work together, their dynamic shifts from animosity to reluctant cooperation, sparking a journey filled with romance, humor, and unexpected twists. This book includes more modern language, which, again, makes it a great introductory book for those interested in regency romance, but for those wanting more of an authentic regency focus, then this book may not be right for you.
What I enjoyed the most in this book was the well-written banter and frenemies vibes between the main characters, highlighting the tension, chemistry, and angst that permeate their interactions. Blythe, a nature enthusiast with dreams of starting her own apiary, and Briggs, an heir to an elite family facing financial ruin, must navigate their complicated relationship while navigating society's expectations and their own personal ambitions. To have a compelling romance, there needs to be a connection between the characters, and there is no denying the chemistry between these two. I was immediately shipping them together as soon as they were introduced in the book. As their relationship deepens and they confront their feelings for each other, you are treated to a swoon-worthy tale of love, betrayal, and redemption.
Even though this is a romance book, there actually weren’t too many romantic moments between the leads; there was more of a focus on the plot itself. While I did appreciate the plot development, which kept the story interesting and engaging throughout, I did still want just a few more romantic moments. If there ends up being a sequel or another book set in the same universe, then I really hope for more sweet moments between Blythe and Briggs. While the book can be a bit cliché and predictable, I still really enjoyed the story, and I would definitely read more from the author.
Overall, Whether you're a fan of regency romance or looking for a fun and light-hearted read, this book promises to deliver a charming and entertaining experience from start to finish. I would definitely recommend this book to be kept in middle/high school libraries for those wanting a bit more “safe” regency romance for younger readers to explore.
In the break between part one and part two of Bridgerton’s third season, this historical romance was the perfect read to fill the time. The setting of high society gossip and scandal was exactly what I was looking for.
Witty in pink is a fun historical romance with enemies to friends and funny banter. Love all the sly remarks Blythe shot back with and I love the Blythe didn't want to marry for money but build her own business. Definitely gave bridgerton vibes
Thanks entangled for the arc ❤️ it was my first and it's exciting to be apart of!!!
