ok LOVED this.
• high school best friends reunited, but one is an actress & the other is tiktok famous
• the slow burn was so well done
• the struggles of both MCs added to the romance plot
• could have been a tad shorter (closer to 300 pages)
In this sapphic friends-to-lovers story, small-town TikToker (and insurance adjuster) reconnects with her childhood friend who has become a famous movie star and director. This thrilling and heartwarming novel follows the two finding their way back to each other and overcoming all of the obstacles in their way.
Thank you Netgalley & Macmillan Audio for this ALC!
Giving this 3.5 rounded up to 4/5. This was a like, not love for me! I wanted to love it, but some parts of it just felt long and drawn out.
Childhood friends Katie and Wil reconnect after many years, and a ton of life changes for moth of them. Katie is now super famous, and Wil is famous in her own right with a popular Tik-Tok channel. IIt was definitely fun to see how their relationship evolves! A cool thing about their relationship is that they communicate very well with each other, which is a refreshing change from all the books with miscommunication tropes out there!
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy:
Friend's to lovers
Celebrity romance
Second chance/missed opportunity
Clear communication between characters!!
Thank you Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for the advanced reader copy. This is a feel good LGBTQ+ romance set in Wisconsin and LA. It was so fun to connect with the Midwest vibes and to be entertained by the drama of LA. Will and Katie are so relatable and you can't help but cheer for their happily ever after
Everyone I kissed Since You Got Famous is a fun jaunt of a book that packs an emotional punch. As readers, we’re thrown into Wil and Katie’s relationship as they try to pick up the pieces of their high school friendship… But was it more then a friendship? Now they’re 10 years older and separated by the life events that have transpired in the years since they lost touch. Everyone I kissed Since You Got Famous
I found this book to be everything I wanted in a childhood friends to lovers romance. Wil and Katie’s chemistry is apparent from the start, a type of connection where they picked up right where they left off. Them exploring their relationship as adults, and learning more about who they’ve become is the perfect combination of nostalgia and adulthood.
Mae Marvel created a world so genuine and real, the emotions I felt while reading were emotions that I’ve felt in real life. Distilled and transcribed so perfectly into book form. Capturing such a specific feeling is hard to do, but somehow they captured the feeling of new, just discovering yourself, sapphic high school love to the T.
At the end, this book is full of nostalgia, love, and the idea that, after everything that happens to you in your life, someone can still love you the same way they would’ve before it all happened. You’re still in the same person despite whatever life has thrown at you, which is such a comforting feeling to have in a book.
***Thanks to Macmillan Audio and St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley for providing me an ARC for my honest review!***
Everyone I Kissed Since You Got Famous by Mae Marvel
Contemporary sapphic romance. Diverse. Dual POV. Second chance troupe.
Wilifred Greene and Katie Price were best friends during their school years. But Katie left for Hollywood at eighteen and the two haven’t seen each other in person for thirteen years. Katie is coming home for the year-end holidays. While they haven’t talked to each other in person, they have kept behind the scenes. Both have millions of followers. Katie as a famous actress, and Wil as a famous TikTok influencer with a goal of kissing two new people every week. Maybe now they are both home in Green Bay, Wisconsin they can actually talk about their feelings for each other.
🎧 I alternated between an ebook copy and an audiobook which was narrated by Mia Hutchinson-Shaw. The performance was engaging with two distinct voices for the two main characters though it did seem a bit slow to me. I increased the speed a point or two from my usual. The banter in the narration was fun and the sex was steamy. There is a lot of the characters questioning themselves and their relationships so there isn’t a lot of “jolly” in the audiobook other than a few select passages. Certainly the ending and family holiday time was more upbeat. I did love the mid west setting of the women and their families.
The narration gives you action and distinctive voices but the print or ebook version gives a little better definition between the two POV’s. There is also a lot of background and more subtle feelings giving the audio a bit of an edge for the more visual or action oriented reader.
I can easily recommend either format for reading this book. Or do both together which is my preferred method if I have the time.
Overall a touching and happy romance. It was great that the mothers knew about their feelings when they were teens and didn’t interfere. I loved the cat buttons so Katie and Sue and the rest of the cats could talk to each other. 50 language buttons. I had no idea it was a thing. Sure, I’ve seen the dog and bank commercials but thought it was just a gimmick.
A heart happy romance.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley and publisher Macmillan Audio.
Holy moly. I could not get through this audiobook fast enough. The banter, the confidence, the sexiness. My goodness, what a treat of a book. I cannot wait to reread this story over and over again. I will always be rooting for Will and Katie.
Clearly this a romance. Two women, Katie is now famous and on tv and Wil is her old time friend. When she goes back home, her and Wil decide to give each other a chance. It was cute and a little bit spicy, emotional and I really enjoyed it.
let me tell you, I think the dedication of everyone I kissed since you got famous was the best part of this book. “to everyone who almost kissed their best friend and then finally, finally did. or they kissed you. for everyone who thought about it during late-night talks and driving around with no destination. for our yearning imaginations and vulnerable hearts.”
dnf at the 28% mark. ugh, I was so pumped to be gifted an early audio copy to read during pride month but unfortunately this fell SO flat for me. one of the characters is known for kissing people on tiktok? since that topic was discussed excessively, I felt no chemistry between our MC’s.
the dialogue had me itching my head… how do you go from not talking to someone for thirteen years and immediately get into discussing masturbation habits? their conversations were very long-winded which did not pair well with the loooong chapters.
A tender, moving, slow burn, second chance, friends to lovers Sapphic romance between a Hollywood star and her a struggling small town tik tock famous high school friend who fall in love over the holidays. I absolutely loved this beautiful story of friendship, love and second chances that was great on audio read by new to me narrator, Mia Hutchinson-Shaw and had unexpectedly AMAZING emotional depth! Highly recommended for fans of authors like Elizabeth Luly, Meryl Wilsner and Melissa Lendhart. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review.
TW: intimate partner emotional abuse
I was thrilled to dive into this book for my Pride Month reading list. Super megastar celebrity Katie Price is home in Wisconsin over the holidays writing a screenplay for her next big project. Being home brings her back into the orbit of Will Greene, TikTok sensation and high school best friend of Katie. Thirteen years has gone by since Will and Katie have spoken, but the chemistry of their senior year picks up right where it left off before they went their separate ways after high school.
I really wanted this one to work for me, but unfortunately it did not. Having not seen each other for thirteen years, the pining that went on immediately between Katie and Will did not feel as organic or believable as I think the writers intended it to be. Proclamation of their love for one another only a couple of days into their reunion felt kind of anticlimactic. There were many times where I contemplated DNFing this one, but given as it was gifted to me as an ARC, I wanted to see the story through. An enormous part of the story was lengthy and long winded dialogue between Katie and Will. Like, by the time I was 50% through the story, I think the bulk of it had been three super long conversations between the two sitting in Will’s Bronco—a Bronco that we were reminded repeatedly was the same Bronco that Katie and Will spent their senior year cruising around in, and presumably talking. I just really wanted something to happen, but alas, it never picked up for me-- and it ultimately just dragged on.
The story was only 368 pages, but the audiobook version went on for nearly 14 hours. The narration felt as slow as the storyline dragged on-- extremely long for the amount of dialogue that occurred. I sped up the audio for 1.75x, which only made it mildly better.
There are many highly rated reviews on this one, so I still think there is great potential for other readers to find something here that clicks with them. While it didn’t work for me, I think it could (and will) work for others.
This book was achingly sweet.
The two primary characters are interesting and beautiful and madly in love with each other. The familial relationships are also well developed and complex.
There is so much desperate longing in this book, it brought to mind the Twilight series and particularly New Moon. At times, it was almost too much but if you like that sort of thing, this book will be right up your street!
I like the interesting plotting and felt like this book had a unique structure compared to many contemporary romance stories, and I loved that about it (can't give too many details without potential spoilers here).
I listened to the audio version and the narrator was excellent.
This book was so lovely and has a good amount of spice. The two main characters don't see each other for years and the love between them never disappears. I had heard a lot about this book and was very happy to be able to listen to it before it came out. I will definitely recommend this book to everyone who I think would appreciate it all the same.
I realized after reading that this is an SMP title, and I won’t cross the publicity boycott. I sincerely wish SMP would do right by their authors, readers, and staff by taking simple actions to protect folks against bigotry at this publisher.
DNF at 32% - sadly, this book fell short of my expectations. Any book that involves fame and celebrity can go south fast. And while there have been worse offenders, I found it hard to conceptualize the FMCs as an Oscar award winner and TikTok influencer (famous for kissing?). It felt like the author was desperately trying to write a book that centered on the modern zeitgeist without actually knowing how the zeit works. Not to mention the entertainment industry...
The author set up so many exciting mysteries but didn't give me enough breadcrumbs to follow along and not enough intrigue for me to care. Were they romantic in high school? Just friends? None of it felt codified.
I anticipated pushing through the book, but when the FMC mentioned that she could have moved to Chicago to be a part of The Groundlings, I had to get out. The Groundlings are not a Chicago based group. This is an easy google and an absolute miss from the writer but even worse the editing team.
This was a struggle for me. I was really excited about it but honestly if I didn’t have the audiobook (the narrator was fantastic!) I probably wouldn’t have finished it. The characters were well developed but they had zero chemistry together. I also thought the story dragged on.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the both the book and audiobook advanced reader copy.
I tried to get into this audiobook/book but just found myself rolling my eyes and thinking I can't wait until it's over. Clearly I am one of the few as all the other ratings are 4 or 5 stars. Sadly this book was just not for me.
Unfortunately, I found this book quite boring. I didn’t feel the chemistry between the two FMCs, and I really wasn’t rooting for them at all.
Getting through this book was a bit of a struggle for me and I feel like part of the reason is timing. There have been many romance novels published in the past few months where the characters have high energy chemistry that is all encompassing. By comparison, Wil and Katie’s chemistry was not quite as dynamic and I had trouble connecting as a result.
I enjoyed the old friends to lovers trope; especially as each character began to understand the nature of their high school relationship. The author does a fantastic job of revisiting memories as Wil and Katie discover the nuances that they were unable (unwilling?) to recognize as teenagers.
I loved the Wisconsin references and particularly appreciated setting this sapphic romance in a traditionally conservative location.
Ultimately, I felt the book was a bit longer than it needed to be and, thus, felt like this contributed to the drag I felt at times. I would have preferred a quicker pace to hold my attention.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to read an advance copy in exchange for my unbiased review.
Solid 3.5 stars! Everyone I Kissed Since You Got Famous is a new sapphic romance release about childhood best friends who have both gotten famous and are now back together again and I had such a good time with this one!
Katie and Wil grew up in their small town in Wisconsin and were childhood friends, their moms are even best friends. After high school they went their separate ways, Katie went on and became an A-list star and Wil stayed back. While Wil’s plans of becoming a lawyer didn’t pan out, she has become an online sensation when she started challenging herself to kiss 2 new people each week and film and post it on social media. Through the years, Wil and Katie have both thought about one another often and now they’re back in the same place spending time together and figuring out all their feelings!
While I mostly enjoyed this one, I do think it was too long and kinda would lag in some parts. The cats were both interesting but also felt like a lot of time was spent around describing their lives. 😅 I also wasn’t that sure why Wil was even doing the kissing thing besides it like being interesting/working for the plot. 😅 There are some heavier/emotional conversations around one of the character’s family health and a toxic relationship with an ex.
I received an audio ALC from the publisher, all thoughts in this review are my own.
CW: death of a parent, emotional abuse, terminal illness, toxic relationship
