This book was a wild ride and I was totally here for it! I didn't see that last twist at the end coming, and that is my favorite! This was my 1st book Louisa Luna but will certainly not be my last!
Featuring multiple POVs, dark humor, and unlikeable characters, I found myself completely immersed into this story!
Dr. Caroline Strange is a psychiatrist with a patient who confesses his thoughts of killing someone, and it happens to be someone Dr. Strange knows.
*many thanks to Macmillan audio and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review
Such a fun, original and suspenseful audiobook, with excellent narration. There's not much I can say about this book that won't spoil the fun, except that it centers on a psychologist named Dr. Caroline who deals with a lot of emotionally disturbed patients. Right after one of them visits her for the first time and threatens violence, Dr. Caroline herself becomes a suspect in a missing person case.
I thought the actress who voiced Dr. Caroline could not have been more perfect - she's exactly what I imagined the cold, eccentric psychiatrist would sound like. The action starts early in this book and the psychological twists are plentiful. I loved the suspense and the creativity and I definitely want to read another book by this author ASAP!
Dr. Caroline Strange had something horrific happen when she was thirteen or, so we are led to believe. She is now a psychiatrist and is supposed to be helping others because of this trauma. But… She isn’t a very likeable person. She is smug and arrogant and has condescending names for her patients. Is she really trying to help the police because she thinks they are stupid and not doing their jobs or is she actually guilty of kidnapping Ellen Garcia, a journalist who wrote a scathing article about what a bad doctor she was? There are sure a lot of unlikeable characters in this novel for it to have ended up being quite an interesting and enjoyable read. I think almost all of them should have been under psychiatric care!
Louisa Luna’s “Tell Me Who You Are” is a captivating psychological thriller that explores themes of identity and trust. The story follows Dr. Caroline Strange, a Brooklyn psychiatrist whose life is upended by her new patient, Nelson Schack. His unsettling confessions trigger a series of events that challenge everything she knows.
The novel grips you from the start with its fast-paced narrative and unexpected plot twists. Luna masterfully keeps readers guessing, making it difficult to put the book down. Dr. Caroline emerges as a relatable character—intelligent and determined, yet deeply human as her past unfolds.
A standout feature of the book is its pervasive sense of uncertainty. Trust is scarce, and just when you think you’ve figured things out, another surprise awaits. This constant suspense makes for an engaging read.
What elevates the audiobook is the full cast narration, which brings a dynamic range of voices to the story. Each character is given a distinct tone, adding layers of realism to the already gripping narrative. Megan Tusing, one of the narrators, stands out with her emotive performance, enhancing the listener’s connection to the characters and their experiences.
For fans of psychological thrillers, “Tell Me Who You Are” offers a thrilling journey filled with intrigue and surprises. Louisa Luna’s storytelling prowess shines through, making this novel a must-read for mystery enthusiasts seeking a gripping tale.
I have to admit Louisa Luna came up with quite he premise to her story, along with an apropos name for her main character, Dr Caroline Strange. Added to that is the husband, Gordon Strange, and a patient or two that are as strange as the couple's last name.
At a session with a patient, said patient confesses that he wants to kill someone, and to top it all off, he says the words sending Caroline into a bit of a panic. When a reporter goes missing, Caroline is concerned but more concerned with the patient's words, "I know who you are."
The plot thickens when it is discovered that the reporter has listed Caroline as one of the ten worst doctors so guess what the police think? It's not looking good for the doctor so she decides to become her own investigator.
A basket full of snarky and characters you will love to hate make for a fun read with lots of clues for the detective within you.
Thanks to Louisa Luna, and NetGalley for a copy of this one already published.
Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.
This was a crazy ride and I enjoyed every second of it! So much second guessing and twists, very entertaining. The narrators did great as well. I would absolutely read more by this author.
This is the story of Dr. Caroline Strange, she is a psychiatrist has a patient who says he is going to commit murder by starvation. Before she can get more information, he leaves. When Dr. Caroline is contacted by the police about a missing woman with ties to her, she wants to help the police find this mystery man who she believes kidnapped the woman. The story is told from three different perspectives: Caroline, Ellen Garcia (the missing woman), and a man named Gordon Strong. Overall I liked this book, but at times I was getting a little bored with it, that's why I gave it 4 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to this ALC and leave my honest review!
Dr. Caroline Strange is a foremost psychiatrist that feels she always knows what is best for her patients, no matter what anyone else may think (including her patients). Her perfect little world is turned upside down, however, when a new patient tells her two things: I am going to kill someone and I know who you really are. If that isn’t a way to start off a new patient appointment, I don’t know what is!
What follows is both gripping and unpredictable as somehow Dr. Caroline finds herself the police’s main suspect for the disappearance of a young woman in the neighborhood (who she may or may not know) and she decides to take matters into her own hands to try and find the missing woman before it’s too late. Before the police (and everyone else) find out who she really is… and what she may (or may not) have done.
This was probably one of the best audiobooks I have listened to this year! It has multicast narration for the different POVs you encounter, and it almost felt like I was watching everything unfold like a movie - the narrators brought everything to life so vividly! If you are looking for an audiobook with unpredictable characters, loads of twists, and a story that will have you not being able to stop listening, then definitely give this one a try!
Thank you to Macmillan Audio for the ALC to review!
I have thoroughly enjoyed Luna’s books, particularly her Alice Vega series but man this one might be my new favorite. It was different, engaging, and just plain wild. Dr. Caroline Strange is a psychiatrist that knows what is best for her patients, that is, until one walks in and halfway through the sesh tells her he’s going to kill someone, that he knows who she really is, and then he ups and leaves. And off we go from there. This is told in 3 POV’s, Dr. Caroline’s, and two other individuals that are key to the story (but for spoilers sake I won’t say who), and this was one twisty ride that kept me guessing until the end. I loved the audio for this, it was perfect to read it this way, although I do want to purchase a physical copy for my shelves. I absolutely recommend this one, it was such a great read!
I love it when someone’s surname seems to fit them to a T. Psychiatrist Dr Caroline Strange, is, well…strange. And I mean that in the best possible way. If you like characters who are snarky, and off their rocker, then you will enjoy her as much as I did.
The story is told from 3 POV:
• Dr Caroline Strange
• Ellen Garcia, a woman who has been kidnapped and held hostage. She may have questionable morals but she’s a badass and I enjoyed hearing her thoughts too
• Gordon Strong, a person who may be more unhinged than Dr. Strange. It’s unclear at first the part he plays in the story but trust the author to bring it all together.
Dr Caroline, as she prefers to be called, has a patient who confesses that he is thinking about killing someone and tells the doctor ‘I know who you really are”. When she hears reports of a missing reporter, she wonders if her patient has made good on his threats of murdering someone.
But mostly she’s concerned about the latter part of his message. Just what does he know and how much of a threat is he to her? Dr Strange has a troubling incident from her childhood that she would prefer remain hidden.
When police discover the kidnapped woman is a reporter who named Dr Strange as one of the worst 10 doctors in their area, they set their sights on the doctor as their main suspect. Dr Caroline decides to do her own investigating and in doing so, her past seems to have caught up to her.
Did I ever love this one! The dark humor and Dr Caroline’s thoughts were an utter delight. If you love to hate unlikable characters who nonetheless makes you laugh, you will love living inside this character’s head too.
The plotting, the red herrings, and the characters made this a page turner with plenty of twists and turns and an ending that was satisfying while managing to take me completely by surprise.
The Good:
I liked the multiple POV from a story perspective and I also enjoyed all three narrators on the audio. I think they all did excellent work that kept me engaged and listening.
The story started strong and drew me in and kept me guessing.
The Bad:
I really didn't like our main character Caroline. She was annoying and unlikable and snotty? I didn't understand why she was doing what she was doing and by the end she got more confusing instead of more clear.
This felt like a story that was trying too hard to be to twisty and the end seemed rushed and somewhat of a letdown.
Overall rating this a three - feel ok about it but not compelled to offer it as a suggestion to others. The writing was solid but the characters weren't likable or developed enough for me to really feel engaged, but others who really like psychological thrillers might really enjoy this!
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this advanced audio copy!!
I'm glad I gave this a chance! I read Luna's earlier books, and liked them... but didn't love them. I thought I'd give this one a shot and I was pleasantly surprised! An engaging thriller that kept me guessing.
First of, the narrarator for this book was amazing! Tell Me Who You Are is full of twisty madness that kept me totally engrossed and up way past my bedtime! I whole heartedly recommend it!
Thank you to NetGalley and Louisa Luna for allowing me an audio ARC of this book in return for my honest review.
I actually got was sent this audiobook as I was getting ready to travel with a seven hour flight- absolutely perfect timing.
This book did what all of Luna’’s books do- weaves you slowly through a story before BAM- she hits you with the whopper plot.
The narrator was great, and did a good job showing the different characters, and didn’t put me to sleep despite me being on a plane.
Thanks to MacMillan Audio & NetGalley for providing an audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Well, damn! I have read and enjoyed Louisa Luna before but this one was really compelling (no disrespect to her other book; this one was just different and, to my mind, better),
Dr. Caroline Strange ("Dr. Caroline," TYVM) is a psychiatrist in New York, but once upon a time she was a nerdy teen with a crush on the boy next door, a workaholic dad, obese mom, and too much boredom. In the present day, Dr. Caroline navigates through her workdays of annoying patients and her indolent, handsome, artist husband, but a bomb is about to be lobbed into Dr. Caroline's perfect life in the form of a new patient (or is he?) who may be setting her up as the patsy for a crime ...
This book was very, very easy to devour. Dr. Caroline is a love-to-hate-her character, a Karen who dresses in all white to see her patients, like a demented Tom Wolfe-esque therapy dilettante. The dual timeline is a bit clunky at first, but smooths out with time and information, and the sections dealing with the kidnapped woman are gnarly (but not completely revolting ,,, except for that *one scene* - you know the one).
All in all, a delicious read if you like psychopaths/sociopaths.
Tell Me Who You Are is the craziest thriller I’ve read this year. I finished it a few weeks ago and I still have zero words to describe this book other than, 5-starts, phenomenal, outstanding, living rent free in my brain. I went into this book with semi low standards and was fairly confident that it couldn’t compare to The Silent Patient or gone girl. Little did I know it would far exceed both of those books. I loved every minute. There were a few parts I was would be more ‘g-rated’.. like the mental illness her mother had when she was a child. IYKYK. It was a very small part but I can’t unread it. However, I dont think that is a fault of this book, it just made me uncomfortable, which isn’t always bad. If you are a psychological thriller fan who loves the unfiltered story’s produced by MAX, you will love this book. I cannot recommend it enough. However, in the words of Dumbledor, it isn’t for the light hearted.
I received the audio version of this book and the narrator is Megan Tusing. Megan was perfect for this book and exactly how I imagine Dr. Caroline Strange would talk.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audiobook of Tell Me Who You Are! Out now.
This was a creatively layered thriller. I would recommend it to people who want a high level thriller rather than just a cozy mystery..
I need to file this under "what the hell did I just listen to, and I mean that in a good way." Finally, a book that's compared to Gone Girl actually comes close. Literally nothing is what it seems and the reader has no idea who to trust or who is actually in their right mind until the very end. A psychiatrist and one of her patients have at least two things in common. They both witnessed horrible murders when they were kids, and they're both suspects in the disappearance of a local journalist.
This was an unpredictable and satisfying story. The audiobook narrators were well chosen. Maybe now I'll finally bump that other Louisa Luna book I bought years ago (Two Girls Down) to my immediate TBR.
I received a free Advanced Reading Copy via NetGalley in exchange for a complete and honest review.
A fractured family comes together in the wake of tragedy, dredging up long-simmering resentments and secrets along the way. Tell Me Who You Are is a perceptive and atmospheric novel that examines the bonds of family, the heavy footprint of the past, and our endless shared longing for connection. While Luna's prose is beautifully lyrical at times, the pacing occasionally lags under the weight of the novel's emotional depths. Nonetheless, her nuanced exploration of grief, regret, and the complexity of human relationships makes for a rich and engaging read.
