These are perfect to make for yourself or to give as gifts especially as there are Gmones you can make for each month and especially for Christmas.
I have made several of these now and some I have given them to my sisters as gifts. They loved them.
Such cute patterns and well structured with information about each birth flower. I found that the instructions for the patterns were pretty consistent with all crochet books I have picked up and with most crochet patterns. I will say that the actual introductory pieces that showed common stitches and the like were not very helpful. I think that if someone were coming to crochet cold, those first few pages would actually confuse them as they don't really show the steps or how to link things together.
I would consider this book more for an advanced crochet person. The patterns may not be too difficult - they are difficult enough but still straight forward.- but the book definitely assumes you know your basics before you start tackling the patterns.
I think that the Lily of the Valley gnome was my favourite. And it will be fun to try the flowers with different colours and possibly even combining them. That may have been a better use of the introductory pages, namely using the extra space to show some variations on the gnomes either with each month or as a roll up at the end to show how to take the basic 12 and build them out.
Flower Gnomigurumi is everything you didn't know you needed from amigurumi and garden gnomes.
Unlike the current style of gnomes that are all hat and body and no eyes, these flowery gnomes have cure little faces and an abundance of colourful hats and blossoms to make them stand out.
This is not a book for beginner crocheters and amigurumi makers - while there are a couple of pages at the start outlining the different stitches used, you do need to know your stuff here, and the patterns are written in US notation for those of us outside the States. The patterns themselves are clear and easy to follow, and have step-by-step pictures along the way to show you what/where you need to work (or how things are meant to look at any given step).
The yarn specified is a particular brand local to the author, but the colour selections are clear and easy to substitute, and detailed in the patterns themselves (rather than "MC", "CC" as other patterns do, this will tell you when you need to switch to red, or jade or ecru)
Each of the floral gnomes are a delight! I particularly like Violet in her top hat and Lily of the Valley with the spray of blooms on her hat. You could easily use these patterns to simply make flowers if you choose, or you can crochet a garden of blossoming gnomes.
~ Many thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review~
This was very cute! The patterns are easy to follow and the end results are gift worthy. I love a cute gnome! I know that the month theme was used with the associated flowers, but I would have liked a couple more variations of the little guys!
Maybe more info on how to customise them a bit more.
Never knew I needed this pattern but oh yes I did! And who doesn't like Gnomes? This book is so fun, way longer than I expected and has some many fun easy to read patterns. Its perfect crochet book for any level, especially beginner. I always struggled as a beginner with making granny squares (those are boring!). These Gnomes are smaller, and the patterns include really well done pictures for each step. I loved that there is a gnome for every month.
Perfect for fan of gnome and flowers!
This book is filled with 12 adorables flowers gnome patterns, made from relatively straightforward patterns, with clear instructions. Each pattern is accompagned with a brief description of the flowers, its symbology and the month its associated with.
The book begin with an introduction on basic stitches. However while the pattern themselves are clear and accompanied by numerous photos, the assembly instruction are not very detailled. This makes it a pattern book more fit for advanced begginners
