Zoey arrives in Florida to discover who her father is. She quickly realizes it’s not going to be as simple as she thought. Not only has her mother Pepper lied to her, but everyone seems to be lying, especially about the night two graduates died
Pepper’s old school friends are not only still friends, but her ex boyfriend Vince is now married to her ex best friend Scarlett. Shockingly salacious, and that’s only the start
The story is fast paced and full of “Housewives” drama. Secrets are revealed and interspersed with past police interviews from the time after the two graduate deaths
I loved the audiobook, narrated by Hillary Huber - she’s narrated several of my favorite books and I recommend listening if you can
None of the characters are particularly likable but it’s hard to look away and honestly, I was gripped! The only character I really liked was teenage Luke who managed to steer clear of the drama
I guessed the majority of twists, but it didn’t take away from the fun - I definitely recommend this for a fun vacation read
Thanks to Netgalley and HighBridge Audio, for access to this audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review
Wow!! I looooooooved this book!! I finished it in a day. I was mildly obsessed with it. Maybe a bit more than mildly. I love that I kept guessing what was happening or who did what throughout the story. Perfect thriller. Takes place in present day but frequently flashbacks to 1999. High school drama. Cheerleaders. Jocks. Lies. Betrayals. So many unlikable characters. I didn’t like any until the very end of the book which tied up perfectly. it was difficult to determine who was reliable and who to trust. I listened to the audio and the narrator was awesome especially during the police interrogation scenes. Fun. Juicy. Addicting. And yes maybe there were some far fetched details/scenes but it’s fiction and a thriller and completely entertaining. This is my second Jaime Lynn Hendricks novel (the first being Finding Tessa which I rated 4/5 stars) and I’m going to definitely move the rest to the top of my TBR. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review..
A Lovely Lie by Jaime Lynn Hendricks was absolutely Unputdownable.
20 years ago, seniors Scarlett and Pepper were involved in a deadly car accident that left 2 dead. Now Peppers daughter has shown up with questions about her mother’s past. The truth begins to unravel and in a game of he said she said no one can be trusted.

Easy to listen to narration. Then and now mystery with twists throughout. None of the characters were likable, which made it difficult for me to really care about the content- but I could see others having a more favorable reaction.
Thank you to author, publisher, NetGalley for advanced audio copy. This is an honest voluntary review.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #HighBridgeAudio for the book #ALovelyLie by #JamieLynnHendricks. I absolutely love this book about an accident years ago that left two dead. There was way more to the story than anybody knew. Years later, a daughter of one of the remaining group, has come looking for who her dad is and why her mother has kept it a secret all these years. A lot of old and new wounds surface as the truth is finally told.
This was such a deliciously deceptive tale. I loved all of the drama between the friends and how all of the secrets just kept tumbling out. The narrator made them all sound especially catty and made me hate some of these characters! There were a lot of characters which at first was tough to keep up with, but once I got that down it was full speed ahead. It was an easy listen and a totally bingeable psychological thriller. I really enjoyed this twisty story with a superb ending.
Thank you NetGalley and HighBridge Audio for my ALC of this story which publishes 5/28/24
In 1999, Scarlett Russo and her best friend Pepper were involved in a car accident that killed two classmates, leading them to lie to the police and subsequently lose contact when Pepper left town. Twenty-two years later, Scarlett’s quiet life is upended when Pepper’s daughter, Zoey, arrives with news of Pepper’s death and a cryptic letter hinting at past secrets. Zoey, an aspiring journalist, seeks answers about her mother’s history and the true events of that tragic night, threatening to expose the secrets Scarlett has long kept hidden.
A solid 3 star. Many of the twists were predictable. It is a book with a limited character list, which allows for easy guesswork of who did what.
The characters are unlikable which means some great drama and very messy situations, but it makes it tough to empathize with the characters.
I listened to this on audiobook. Hillary Huber was a fantastic narrator and did a great job of distinguishing between the different voices and characters. I will look for other audiobooks that she has done.
Thank you to HighBridge Audio, Jaime Lynn Hendricks, and NetGalley for this audio-ARC!
A Lovely Lie is a thriller with a sprinkle of Real House Wife’s energy sprinkled in. I loved every minute of this book and the ending was everything I wanted. Give me high school jealously, drama, and secrets, and I’ll eat it up. Add in those secrets staying secret for more than 20 years, a women marrying her high school best friend’s boyfriend.. knowing your ex best friend is the love of his life? I couldn’t get enough! If you’re a Bravo girly and a thriller girl, I don’t know how you couldn’t love this book!!
The narration of this book was done by Hillary Huber, who did a brilliant job!! She was perfect for this book. I loved every minute and flew through this audio book.
Thank you to NetGalley and HighBridge Audio for the audio-arc of A Lovely Lie!
A Lovely Lie
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow a fast pacing fantastic mystery that will not let you put it down. It so so good. You will continue to turn the pages to know what happens next. Lots of great characters, twist, turns, lies, & justice. I really enjoyed it!!
Thank you NetGalley!
I chose this audiobook because of Hillary Huber, she was as amazing and easy to listen to as always! The storyline was entertaining and I loved reading all the POVS of these imperfect characters. Fun read, highly recommend- especially the audiobook!
The entire cast is SO messy and I lived for it! I love thrillers centered on deliciously unlikable characters and if you're the same way I expect you'll enjoy this.
Premise - the head cheerleader (Pepper) and her flunky (Scarlet) are harboring a secret around the death (via car crash) of two of their senior year classmates. Twenty-two years later, Scarlet is not-so-happily married to Pepper's ex-boyfriend when a younger version of Pepper shows up on their doorstep: it's Pepper's secret child... who just might be Scarlet's husband's daughter? When I say messy!
This thriller has it all - obsession, affairs, betrayal, manipulation, murder, personality disorders, people checking in and out of the afterlife like it's Ibiza... if you want telenovela drama in literary form, set in an accessible American context, look no further.
I'll definitely keep my eye out for more from this author!
Thanks, NetGalley and Scarlet, for the gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you so much to High Bridge Audio for the ALC!
Hillary Huber is a favorite narrator of mine and she absolutely nailed this audio and was so easy to listen to!
I saw quite a few 5 star reviews for this one and when I read the synopsis I knew it would be for me! Why have I waited this long to read a Jaime Lynn Hendricks book?? I finished this one and instantly went and added her whole back list to my TBR!
I quite literally could not put this down! The format made it so absolutely bingeable and she threw in surprises left and right that will have your jaw hitting the floor!
There are alternating perspectives, short chapters, scripts from interviews in the past mixed in, etc. etc.
I really had no idea where this story was going to take me, but the ride was FUN! I will be recommending this as a "read in one sitting" thriller for years to come!
My recommendation is to skip the synopsis and go in with as little information as possible! You won't want to miss out on this one!
This will be available on May 28th!
