Joseph Coelho is fast becoming a legend within children's poetry .
Spooky Poems Aloud is a wonderful collection of poetry that could be enjoyed from 6-11. Every child enjoys a little bit of spookiness and these poems come up trumps with their creepy content and wonderful vocabulary that builds up suspense, dark images and comedy too.
Each poem is explained in relation to its type/form /purpose -ranging from limericks to villanelles to rengas... from ghostly pranks to what lives in a swamp to scary plants and Joseph encourages readers to try their own poems.
Daniel Gray- Barnett's imagery is pitch perfect- comical and yet hints of spookiness
This is a perfect book for bedtime reading or exploring poetry in the classroom. Highly recommended for colleagues in the classroom- lower ks2
An original, amusing concept with interactive content. The poetry is mixed with comments and instructions to help kids recreate the spookiness. Should come in handy around Halloween to entertain groups of children during a sleepover.
As a new auntie I am now actively seeking out books to read to my nephew. This cover illustration immediately drew me in!
I think there's a lot of opportunity to read these aloud, have fun with it and let kids grow with this book. There's something awesome about a spooky and fun Halloween children's book!
The poems were great and the illustrations were playful and fun. So cute!
I'm a huge fan of spooky stories, so I had to pick this one up. I like the illustrations, they are the perfect mix of funny and spooky, as we expect in a children's book. I didn't like the poems very much, but since I'm not a huge fan of poetry, maybe it's just that I'm not the target audience for this work.
