William Kent Krueger long ago established himself as a living legend with his Corcoran O’Connor series. The enthralling Spirit Crossing might be the best yet. It features Krueger’s masterful mix of action and poignancy. It is a book which also includes Krueger’s welcomed admiration and respect for indigenous people. Spirit Crossing doesn’t shy away from addressing real life issues and Krueger deftly handles these scenes. Yes, Cork O’Connor is one of the greatest protagonists in the genre. But, IMHO, the one major thing that has placed this series among the very best is the superb supporting cast. They’re on full display here and each of them are important to the story. This is a powerful read. I shed a tear at the end. You will too. Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for the advance reading copy in exchange for my honest opinion. #SpiritCrossing #NetGalley

I've always like William Kent Krueger because I've always liked reading about Minnesota, I grew up in Duluth. I've been aware of the inconsistencies working with the native peoples. My first adolescent crush was with an Indian girl who didn't stay throughout the year. What he describes in his story has a lot of merit to it. I'm talking about the girls and not Waaboo, although it would be nice to have someone like that. Read the story and you'll find it very interesting and informative at the same time. I did.

This is another author that, in my opinion, cannot write a bad novel. This Cork O’Connor series never fails to draw me in and make me a part of the Iron Lake reservation.

A missing politician’s daughter and an indigenous woman play an integral role in the storyline, but I noticed the coming out of the rest of Cork’s family to aid in the investigation any way they could. Cork wasn’t the only one in the spotlight and the other characters got to shine.

A feeling of melancholy permeated the story, not only the growing problem of missing and endangered indigenous women, but a personal matter that will have the whole family shaken.

I always take comfort from the words of the never-aging, Henry Meloux. His words of wisdom and spiritual voice bring peace to my soul. May he never leave this series.

Highly recommended!

This is book 20 in the Cork O’Connor series.
When a local politician's daughter Olivia disappears Cork once again gets pulled into an investigation.
Waaboo is growing up! He’s 7 years old now. Everyone is home for Stephen’s wedding including Anne who hasn’t been home in a long while. She brought Maria with her from Guatemala and Cork is sure something is going on between them but he also feels Anne is hiding something. While out picking blueberries they come across a dead body. Waaboo can feel a lost spirit who's trying to find the path to peace. Henry Meloux is right there on crow point as he always is, to help Waaboo with his vision and feeling. When Waaboo confirms that it isn’t a white woman they know there is something more sinister at play, young Ojibwe women who have also gone missing. Unfortunately, like in real life the authorities aren’t too interested in finding them. As Cork works the case with Marcia Dross and his son in law Daniel English his family is once again in peril on Crow Point and Cork won’t be able to protect them all from everything.
Thanks to William Kent Krueger, Atria and NetGalley for the ARC of this book!

The author's name was recognizable, so I desired to give this title a try. I didn't love the book, but it wasn't horrible. Just fell somewhere in the middle for me. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Wow. It's hard to decide what to write except this wound up being a very moving, and important, story about families and ended up showing the potential destruction a bad home life in childhood can have on individuals that spills out onto others. I've loved every book in this series but this one seemed heavier and more real than the others. There were a lot of tragic situations in this book but also a lot of love and wisdom. I am pretty sure this contrast was an intentional way to draw attention to the plight of the unloved and how early trauma negatively shapes lives. One of my favorite parts of this series (& this novel) is how the author respectfully weaves in bits of Native language and culture but also revealing the awful prejudices Native people are are still subjected to as well as showing that there are still many kind people in America trying to help those who need real help, to fight against bullies and those they try to hurt. Oh, and I was intrigued that I read this book in one day!

Despite the over abundance of characters, I really enjoyed this story. Rich in details, great constructed characters and plot. Just hard to follow at times with so many characters. Thank you Netgalley for my copy!

An important book by William Kent Krueger dealing with pertinent, current topics of human trafficking and cultural protection. The riveting story is packed with references to the indigenous beliefs packed into this thriller.

Thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Spirit Crossing is my initial encounter with the captivating world of Cork O'Connor, although I have previously read works of William Krueger. This particular masterpiece stands apart from his other creations that I have immersed myself in. One aspect that truly resonated with me was the exploration of Native American culture. While I commend the author's skill in crafting intricate characters, I must admit that the abundance of characters occasionally led to moments of confusion. Despite this minor drawback, I found great pleasure in immersing myself in the narrative and wholeheartedly recommend it to others. Krueger, a gifted storyteller, consistently delivers enthralling tales that leave a lasting impression.
Thank you to Net Galley and Atria Books for ARC

The twentieth book featuring Cork O’Connor! Don't worry, you can pick this one up and enjoy it alone.

In Spirit Crossing, Cork's grandchild is featured as a main character and he has potentially inherited a Ojibwe trait to see spirits and this young boy sees the spirits and identifies them. Cork has a hard time believing in this, even when what he has seen becomes true.
Before you know it, Cork is pulled into dual investigations of two missing women - one wealthy and white and the other Ojibwe and financially insecure. It's a great story and a great addition to the series!
