A normal high school girl, Hotaru, who’s uninterested and clueless in love unwittingly draws the affection of a fellow student, Hananoi-kun, who hopelessly falls for her.
Hananoi-kun is a handsome guy, don’t get me wrong. But as they say in Japan, his affection is kind of omoi (heavy), especially at the beginning when Hotaru has no interest in him. If he wasn’t good-looking, I’m not sure what he does would fly very well. But as this is shoujo if I put those concerns aside, it is a charming, sweet, slow-burn romance about first love and falling slowly. Hotaru kind of reads as aromantic, but since this is a romance manga I’m interested in seeing if this continues or how their relationship shifts. I also have a feeling we’ll learn in future volumes why Hananoi-kun loves love and why Hotaru is rather disinterested in it.
A Condition Called Love is a cute and simple love story. Hotaru is sixteen, but hasn't fallen in love or ever felt anything alike it. Instead she enjoys her life with her friends and family, which is great by the way, since love is so overrated in shoujo. She ends up helping a school mate, a boy called Hananoi. Hananoi then suddenly declares his love for her and wants to date, but Hotaru of course doesn't feel that way. The two become friends and soon Hotaru wants to try to fall in love with the guy. Gladly Hananoi is weird and not your sexy boy man of the year. This makes the story more credible, but I still wish more time was used before any feelings arise. I'm not a fan of insta love.
The art looks nice, quite realistic. Hotaru is plain and wonderful, so normal. Hananoi is almost normal too and they are also normal together. Hotaru's friends are nice and no one is nasty to her, which is a miracle. This makes the story harmonic and also, cute. The series is still ongoing and now 15 books long, so I hope Morino takes her time with the characters.
The manga is super cute! I love the idea of a girl who doesn't think love is for her, trying out dating. The artwork is really nice too.
This was adorable!! I love cute slice of life mangas and this was perfect. For the first volume it really set the tone of the rest of the series and it will definitely be one I continue! It’s so fluffy and lighthearted. It’s really a feel good manga that allows you to turn your brain off for a little while and just relax.
Thank you net galley for giving me access to this manga, I loved this so much it was so cute and so warm. I loved how the characters communicated with each other even when they couldn’t fully understand why the other was behaving the way they were . Definitely recommend and I hope to read volume 2 when it comes out
This was sort of a cute story, but unfortunately, the male lead started to throw up a bunch of red flags for me. The female lead is pretty naive about love and romance and decides to do a trial run of dating an eccentric boy in her class. They make a pretty odd pair, but...the male lead gets WAY too intense way too fast when it comes to undying declarations and acts of "love". His actions border on extreme and the way Hotaru responds as if they're normal big acts of devotion is pretty scary. I found myself being distracted from the cute moments of Hotaru trying to learn about love by being concerned about Hananoi's actions. The art was very cute I will admit.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
I LOVE THEM. i love how shes coming to understand how to love someone. i love that he cherishes her things so much. i love the writing the quotes aaa sooo good.
I decided to pick this one up because I have heard good things and saw that the anime was(has) come out.
I really wasn't sure what to think. This is both cute and slightly unsettling in a toxic sort of way, but I was willing to continue on because the art style looks adorable and there is the potential for character growth which would make the characters unless concerning in a toxic-way.
I've since read 10 volumes of this and absolutely enjoy where the story has and will go. I am very glad to have picked this up.
First of all, thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a copy of this manga in exchange for an honest review.
This shojo manga was super cute. Hotaru is such a little clueless character and at times reminded me of a hamster. Hananoi is also adorable, and the way he is with Hotaru had me squealing.
The art itself was in my personal preferred style for manga. I look forward to eventually reading the rest of the series.
A very wholesome and sweet manga, that I can only (and will) recommend.
It's a wonderful mix between love and sprinkles of humor. Can't wait to read the second volume.
oday, I revisited one of my favourite forms of reading - Manga. I read 'A Condition Called Love Volume 1'. It's a cute and quick read. I enjoyed seeing the panels in each part of this manga, especially the portrayal of Hanon and Hotaru's emotions. Although Hanon comes across as very strong, it may set off red flags, but I believe this is deeply seated from his past, and as we get to know him, we will understand why he's like this. I loved the art style and the dynamic between the two leads. I’m really looking forward to reading the other volumes and seeing how they develop. One of my favourite things to see in any series is character growth, and I can really see the potential. I also enjoyed how the supporting characters were actually supportive, unlike many other shoujo manga. I personally think Hotaru is an incredibly refreshing shojo protagonist, specifically for her complete lack of interest in romance at the start of the series and her obvious emotional trauma that’s only been hinted at in this first installment.

This manga is so cute and sweet. The characters are so charming! I can’t remember the last time the first volume in a manga series caught my attention so thoroughly!
Thank you netgalley for an advanced ARC of this manga
This story was very sweet to read about a girl who's A sexual and beenntold she will never fall in love, but love doesn't always have to be all kiss and hugs etc love cam be shown though understanding and small guesters. We see the main female character show love in a way that she can even tho by others she may never be understood but to try and see what happens she agrees to be a girlfriend for a male friend that means allot to her seeing if this can show her what love is (but in her own way she does know love but her way is just not seen the way the work says it should work).
If u feel different in the world then reading this would be a book that would help u to feel more excepted and I do suggest this book to many.
Unbelievably adorable!!!😍
First of all, this mange is yet again a reason for why I love shoujo manga that much! The cute and dreamy art style, with big full (or half) page illustrations and many little details just give this wonderful romantic and giddy feeling that I so love when getting excited about the development between two characters.
Hananoi-kun is a little intense with his all-in approach, so that was a little hard to wrap my head around at first, but over time you just realise how genuine he is and that he is completely smitten with Hotaru-chan.
I really adore their dynamic and can't wait for the day Hotaru finally realises she is catching feelings as well! 🥰
Cute Manga is one of my favourite categories of Manga...
And this is undoubtedly one of them. When I say this is a page-turner, I mean I downloaded it and read it in an afternoon. I *could not* put it down.
Hananoi-kun comes off as a red flag in the beginning to people unaware of the story, but don't worry - give it time.
I recommend it to anyone who enjoys calming romance novels.
Okay. No. This started out kind of cute and quickly went into Obsessed Love Serial Killer vibes territory. I'm not into it. I can only believe that this is the epitome of "I wanna know what love is... I want you to show me", but a manga, because there's no way a person who has been in a healthy relationship thinks of this is a healthy relationship.
First off, it's a rebound beyond rebounds. Found my man in the SNOW after he broke up with someone and gave him shelter under her umbrella. Then shortly after, the obsession begins. She said she wasn't looking for anything except friendship, but he makes all kinds of love declarations. He starts stalking her. He's everywhere. He even tells her "Hey, I'm intense... I'm a little nuts." Well, he gives serial killer energy actually. It's creepy.
I'm not sure how anyone is reading this as an innocent love story. She tells him she's not into him and he is scrawling "MAKE YOU MINE!" on papers and acting normal. He's basically trying to make her exclude anyone else from her life and care only about him, and he's telling her this is what love feels like.
No, this is stalking and obsession. He FOLLOWS her. I had a hard time finishing this one because it was a creepy thing wrapped up like a love thing. But the title was a giveaway that his love was a sickness.
Thanks, Netgalley!

There’s two extremes in this manga, neither character truly knowing what love really is. One doesn’t know if she even likes a guy because she doesn’t understand feelings at all. The guy’s “love” is more like an unhealthy obsession. …for now 😏
.
Can these two teach each other and grow as humans despite their misunderstandings of love?
.
I’ve only read Volume 1, but it made me interested enough to keep reading. I was getting a little bit of a red flag 🚩 from the guy, but I can see where there’s a LOT of room for these two to teach each other and grow as humans.
.
The romance piece is cute; it’s not the typical oblivious girl with obsessive guy or tsundere romance. Our main character, Hotaru, is really genuinely trying to understand human emotion and the concept of love while working through her own previous traumas.
.
I’m torn between immediately starting the anime or continuing the manga 😅
Read if you liked Ao Haru Ride.

A sweet and simple read. Both main characters were likeable and it was nice to see Hotaru explore new feelings and experiences. Was it realistic? No. Was it a cute, quirky, and enjoyable fictional story? You betcha.
This manga was different from other manga I had read. I enjoyed reading it. There was something's that worried me like how Hananoi put his health at risk and how he tries to change to fit Hotaru preference. I did like that Hotaru told Hananoi that she didn't like that and wanted him to be himself.
This is one of my favorite manga
Oh my, the story is really cute (maybe a bit obsessive but hey, it's shoujo) and the art is amazing!! I love the drawings - though why would you cut is hair?!!
