Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Ooh, I got so mad at the character in the book!! Morgan needs a caretaker to help her with her mom with dementia. She finds Dana, who will be a live in. Then there are lots of red flags......I could not put this down!
This was such a great book! It was fast-paced and gripping from the beginning, all the way to the end. The storyline was filled with twists and turns, and the ending was fantastic! I had a really hard time putting this one down, because I would get lost in the story, needing to read more. I will definitely read more by this author, and recommend this book to other thriller readers.
3.5 ⭐️Thank you for allowing me to read and review this book! I enjoyed the story, but feel some editing would make the story more enjoyable. For example, in the beginning, when the cop asked her to airdrop her a photo. Would that really happen? Maybe , but it threw me off. There were a few more situations like that throughout the book. Overall I enjoyed the story/concept. Thank you again!
The Caregiver by N.L. Hinkens is a pacey thriller that kept me fully engaged and on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.
Morgan is feeling overwhelmed, caring for both her four year old twins and her eighty one year old mother who is in the early stages of dementia. Finding Dana seems to be the answer to her prayers, and the younger woman is hastily hired as a live-in caregiver. But a tragic turn of events will leave Morgan in turmoil, and Dana's presence is becoming more unsettling by the day. Dana's services are no longer required, but why is she refusing to leave?
This one had me flying through the pages, so invested was I in the battle of wills between Dana and Morgan, not to mention all of the collateral damage in the wake of their feud. This is a domestic drama so full of shocking twists that you will be left reeling. 4.5 stars
Many thanks to NetGalley and Joffe Books for an ARC.
Wow! This novel reallt packs a punch. Do you ever really know someone, especially someone you let into your home to care for a vulnerable family member. A sinister novel, really well written and absolutely gripping from the first page. Loved it.
She’s meant to care for my family. But actually she wants to harm us all. How does an 81-year-old woman, who hasn’t left her bedroom, let alone the house, without assistance in months, simply vanish into thin air? I’m trying not to freak out at the thought of my mother wandering the neighborhood, lost in a maze of confusion. We found her, but that was the moment I knew I needed help. I’m at breaking point. I’m a stay-at-home mom. I love my four-year-old twins deeply, but they’re a handful. My husband’s always away on business. My mother’s in the early stages of dementia. It’s a lot. So I let Dana into my home.
Wow! What a book!! This book was a bit disturbing but a good disturbing! It had great suspense, intrigue, action, murder, revenge, mystery, a bit of a who done it and some really crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting! Kept me glued to my kindle! I highly recommend reading this one! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Gripped from the first page until the end. I was on the edge of my seat as soon as Morgan started questioning the behaviour of their new caregiver. The gaslighting already chapters in and signs here and there of more suspicious behaviour. It’s in times like this I felt like warning Morgan to be careful who she is letting in.
I tend to enjoy books where from the start either something happens or the books takes off leaving readers already feeling something. The writing style was inviting throughout. Turns after turns, my eyes were glued to each page wanting to find out what was going to happen next. The pacing of the book is correct and I really liked how the author managed to keep the tensions going.
The Caregiver by N.L. Hinkens was very hard to put down. But I had to, because it is rare that a character in a book makes me so angry! Dana managed to worm her way into Morgan's life, as well as her family's, and she isn't willing to go without a fight. Morgan didn't know what she was up against but once she figured it out, she isn't going to just let things go.
I look forward to reading more by N.L. Hinkens, this book had me hooked.
Thank you to Joffe Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
A decent domestic drama.
I became a little irritated with a couple of the characters.
Just enough twists to keep me reading late into the night.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Very good jaw dropping book. Had alot of turns that I wasn’t expecting that kept me interested and wanting more!
This is a really good plot. The story is presented credibly and moves in unexpected directions. The final twist is spectacularly satisfying. I found it difficult to engage with the characters as they were all a bit stereotypical and, in the case of the protagonists, really unlikeable. But overall it delivers as a thriller which you will fly through.
