an absolute tour-de-force of abject terror, eroticism, and revulsion. larocca revisits the same disorienting power dynamics present in his earlier works and builds a truly horrific tale of depravity and sexual perversion. the metanarrative structure nestles other little nuggets of horror that were so jarring and uncomfortable in the best ways. plus, that ending? the last ten or so pages had me on the edge of my seat. larocca is truly a visionary of capturing the human monster.
