Enjoyed the story and the London setting of this one. Really enjoyed the romance, as always. Thank you to the publisher for the advanced copy, all opinions are my own.

I know I’m in the minority here and it kills me because Joanna Barker is one of my favorites. What it comes down to was being wholly invested in this story. It certainly had moments that gripped me, but then things would really slow down again. My favorite part of the story was Verity’s character arc. When a heroine fights love in this time period?? Oh man, that’s my jam. But for the most part, this story just dragged. I did really like Elizabeth’s character and I do hope she gets her own story. I feel like she deserves it.

Thank you to the author and Shadow Mountain for a gifted copy. My thoughts are my own.

I like to thank the publisher for allowing me to read! Joanna Barker is a great historical romance novelist - one that has males that are swoony, and females who have gumption. The pairing in this are perfect if you like mysteries and girls who want to be female investigators.

Our female lead is not shy to mysteries and solving cases. In fact, she helped her brother - who worked in the field before being dismissed (due to a case gone wrong) - and after under an alias. We meet her at an outing where her friend's family was targeted by a pick-pocket. She runs after the pick-pocket (with a gun on hand - because her brother told her to keep a gun on her) and runs into a man of the law, and her male love interest.

Our male interest is noble, heroic, and well... perfect. Though he gets teased for his chivalrous notions, he finds her interesting until finding out who her brother is. Then he wants to keep her at arms length. He is assigned the case of her friend's family's stolen items, and while thinking it's beneath him, he reluctantly takes it. Meanwhile, our female lead's friend confesses that she needs the article (a purse) stolen from her back due to an incriminating letter... and that's where the story takes off.

What I enjoyed was the way the male and female never really wanted to be at odds with each other, they wanted to help one another out. Due to moments in the plot (which I won't spoil) which reveal their true motions and drive, you see that them appreciate what they can do and push one another to achieving their goals.

The end was a real delight and it had me thrown off a bit with all the reveals!

The reason I marked it down a star is that I felt the romance was a bit mid at times but that was just a me thing! Otherwise, I strongly encourage you to read this book due to the clean romance, the characters, and the plot itself.

I have to be honest it was not my favorite book by this author. I loved all her previous books but this one was slow. It took me a long time to read. The characters were predictable and the plot line has been done a million times before. I felt like the love story was a back burner not the main focus.

I didnt understand verity very well. I couldn’t relate to her. She was just another girl who feels like she can do life without a man. And just stumbles on a guy who is ok with her walking all over him. I struggled with the relationship and I struggled with relatability.

I had the biggest grin on my face while reading this entire book. The two leads have the best banter and interactions. Their relationship is healthy. Couple chemistry is *French kiss*. And the mystery element was so good! .I cannot recommend this book enough. I think you should read the first book “A Heart worth stealing” but you don’t have to in order to enjoy this novel.
Clean level: a few kisses, couple has to sleep in the same room and I’m pretty sensitive to too much romance/steam and this was perfect, I didn’t feel the need to chuck it in the bin. I just want to frame it on my wall instead.

I so enjoyed this book! I love that it wasn’t a traditional proper romance and that the characters had unique backgrounds and interests. Well done!

I loved Verity's spunk in A Heart Worth Stealing, and I'm so happy she got her own book. You don't need to read the other book first, though, to enjoy this story. I loved her and Nathaniel's meet cute. I wish we had Nathaniel's POV. I would love to know what he was thinking at that moment, as well as several others. This was a fun, sweet whodunit read. I enjoyed the investigation and the chemistry/relationship between these two. It had my attention from the very beginning.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through Netgalley. This is my honest review.

Nathaniel and Verity's meet cute was everything you could wish for the start of a mystery/romance. I loved how they kept finding themselves in the same place as they investigated, but they that they both got there through different avenues.

I loved Nathaniel's character so much! He was kind and thoughtful, loyal, and so patient. And, of course, Joanna always has some fantastic kissing scenes! No kissing with trees in this one, (unless I missed something?!) but fantastic nonetheless.

I also appreciate how Joanna dives into the character's thought process and feelings. Verity had quite the tangle to sort through and some pretty tough subjects.

Such a delightful read!

This wonderful regency romance sweeps you off your feet with beautiful characters, some danger, a good mystery, and swoony passion.
Joanna Barker makes history come alive in this investigative and intriguing story. You can definitely feel the research that has gone into this story, which for me, and makes it even more fascinating.
Verity and Nathaniel were some of the best main characters I’ve ever had the pleasure of getting to know. Verity is a spitfire and isn’t afraid to stand up for what she knows is right. She fights for justice and, while hesitant with opening her heart, is so compassionate and always ready to help anyone in need. Nathaniel is the perfect hero who understands Verity’s strengths and yet doesn’t stomp all over her ambition and desires. He’s smart, kind, discerning, and easily one of the swooniest heroes you’ll have the pleasure of reading about. These two individuals seem so personable and human, they really helped make this story come alive. You can’t help but cheer them on, feel sympathy for what they’ve had to go through, and the frustrations they encounter in their quest to solve a mystery. Thankfully I never once felt frustrated with them, which I can sometimes get with characters.
Pretty much I absolutely adored this book and it only further solidified my love for Joanna Barker and her “auto-love/auto-buy” status she has.
I really hope we get more stories about the other great characters, especially Elizabeth, she deserves her own happily ever after.
If you’re looking for a new take on the timeless genre of regency romance, a book filled with suspense, action, heartwarming relationships and charming characters, then this is the perfect book for you!

I loved every minute of this book! Joanna Barker is absolutely one of my favorites and this book hit every mark for me. The mystery element kept me turning pages, the romance had me savoring every moment, and the characters were absolute perfection! The chemistry between Nathaniel and Verity was incredible and honestly made me love this book even more! This was such a fun and enjoyable read and I would absolutely love more of Nathaniel and Verity solving cases together in the future!

Verity is not your typical heroine, she is the daughter of a renowned actress and has secrets regarding her father. She has dreams of working as an investigator and thief taker, but stopped. When she is with a friend's family at the theater and they are accosted, she takes the case of her friend who loses a very important letter in the interchange.

Nathaniel Denning is the Bow Street Runner assigned to find the thief who held them up that night.

As Verity and Nathaniel work their separate cases, they seem to cross paths more often than not. In turn they decide to work together and what ensues is a delightful story, complete with mystery and romance. I found myself unable to put it down and enjoyed every word, JoAnna Barker spins a fantastic tale that takes place on the edges of the society we generally see in Regency Romances. This makes the story all the more interesting as we see more of the working people and the more unsavory settings in the area. The story is the better for it.

We see in Verity a strong character with vulnerabilities she is able to address throughout the story to further build her character and enthrall the reader, Nathaniel is all a Bow Street Runner should be and he is open to her being an investigator and to her hopes and dreams.

The story is refreshing and the mystery intriguing.

Wow! I ended up reading this book in one day. I had heard so many great things about this book and I was excited to finally get to read it. So True a Love is written by Joanna Barker and it is the sequel to A Heart Worth Stealing.
Verity was such a fun character. I liked her from the beginning. She appeared fearless but she held herself back from others. I loved her growth throughout the book and how she learned to let others in. She felt real and I felt for her as she sought to do what was right.
Nathaniel Denning was so swoon worthy. He was honorable and kind. Although we don’t get to see his perspective I still felt as if I got to know him. He worked hard and cared for those around him. Verity surprised him and he found himself falling for her.
The romance was the sweetest. It was definitely a slow burn but it didn’t feel too slow for me. I felt like it fit the story and the characters. Nathaniel and Verity had to learn to trust each other first before they could think of falling in love. I love how they helped each other be better but they didn’t try to change each other. The plot was so interesting and I didn’t know what was happening. I liked the hints of mystery.
I would totally recommend So True a Love! It is a wonderful book, the perfect blend of romance, banter, and mystery. So True a Love is a clean historical romance

So True a Love is such a sweet and captivating story from Joanna Barker. I’m loving this world and these characters she has created; I want all the stories! Although Verity and Nathaniel’s journey wraps up satisfyingly, Barker wove several threads into the story that not only enhanced this book, but may (I hope!) be continued in other books. If you enjoy sweet romance with unique characters and elements of intrigue, this is definitely a tale to add to your TBR. 4.5/5 stars

I really enjoyed this stand alone sequel to ‘A Heart Worth Stealing’ ( May 2023). The story is set in 1803 London. Verity Travers is the daughter of a renowned actress and seemingly accepted into high society. When she is with the family of her best friend and they are robbed after attending the theater she wants to do all she can to capture the culprit. Not many know that she used to dabble in private investigations. She keeps crossing the path of Bow Street Runner Nathaniel Denning. While they keep bumping heads they realize it is better to work together. Verity’s brother was the lead in the previous book I mentioned and the couple makes a brief appearance.

I enjoyed the story and the characters. I like that Joanna Barker brings some extras into the story. Both Verity and her brother are illegitimate and her friend also has a big secret. I’m not sure a daughter of an actress would really be welcome in society but I’m not going to question it much. I did like Verity’s pluck, always willing to dive head first into the chase or put herself on the line. Very enjoyable, clean and proper romance.

What is it about Bow Street Runners that are so appealing? If Nathaniel represents the ideal, it's the sacrifice, work ethic, clever mind, and hunt for justice. He didn't have a chance at protecting his heart from Verity, falling for the same characteristics in her. They began as rivals of a sort, but there was always respect between them as they seemed to be solving clues in tandem. Once they began working together they were unstoppable, and so was their chemistry! I loved their banter and teasing, the way they challenged and accepted each other. So many great scenes between them!!! The multiple family dynamics we see at play brought depth and character growth, with secrets slowly revealing themselves and relationships healing and shifting into something better. The mystery and suspense held me captive and the pace was perfect for exploring our characters while also pursuing leads and resolving the case in a way I found surprising. Such a satisfying read!

London - 1803

Miss Verity Travers is the daughter a well-known actress. Her friend, Elizabeth Harwood, is engaged to the Earl of Blakely. When the group left the theater, they were attacked by a thief who stole their jewelry and cash. Verity gave chase but was unable to catch the man. However, Nathaniel Denning from Bow’s Street helped rescue her.

Verity’s brother, Jack, was a Bow’s Street policeman. Now, he is married and living elsewhere. Verity used to help him with his cases. With this experience, she has worked on some cases herself.

Verity’s friend, Elizabeth, asks her to help find her reticle that was stolen that night and she agrees. There was a letter inside the Elizabeth doesn’t want anyone to see, but when Nathaniel Denning finds Verity investigating the case herself, he is not happy. Although they tend to butt heads, they finally agree to work together to solve the case.

The story is quite frightening at times when Verity and Nathaniel find themselves in dire circumstances. But with bravery and determination, they prevail.

This is a sweet story of two strong-willed people who come together to challenge one another and find that both are filled with strength. I enjoyed their relationship and the story.

I love love love this book. This story was full of suspense and mystery. The characters were written so well. The banter was 10/10. Seriously this book was so good, I could not put it down! I loved Nathaniel and I loved Verity.
This book follows Verity Travers (Jack Travers sister from A Heart Worth Stealing. I highly recommend reading that book first although it can be read as a stand alone.) Verity is thrust into an investigation after being robbed outside the theater. Mr Nathaniel Denning is the Bow Street runner in charge of investigating this crime. As they both learn more, they realize this goes deeper than just a small robbery. Can they work together to figure out who the real bad man is before it is too late?

Seriously give this book a read. It was so much fun and such a sweet historical romance.

So True a Love is book 2 in Joanna Barker's Bow Street Runner series. Although you could read this book as a stand-alone, you will have a richer experience reading the first book, "A Heart Worth Stealing" first so that you recognize the cameos from the first book.

This book takes place in 1803 England, with a not-so-demure female main character named Verity Travers. After being accosted by a thief, Verity literally runs into Bow Street Runner Nathaniel Denning while both Verity and Nathaniel are pursuing the thief. After several more chance encounters, Nathaniel decides that working with Verity is safer than working apart from her. While the pair are busy sleuthing, an unexpected romance between them begins to unfold.

This book is a wonderful romantic mystery novel with likable main male and female characters. Verity is a strong female character that knows her own mind, which is refreshing for a regency era book. The side characters are endearing and well choreographed into the storyline. I always love how Joanna's books tie up bits and pieces that I didn't pay close attention to earlier but ended up being important later.

I enjoyed this book! It was a quick, satisfying read. I hope the author writes more books in this series, as some of the side characters in this book deserve their own story next.

The content was clean, with kisses only and no swearing. If it was a movie I'd rate it PG just for the peril involved with the mystery. This series is more focused on mystery and less on flirting/banter than Joanna's other archery series. I enjoyed both series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Shadow Mountain Publishing for the complementary copy of this book. My review is in no way influenced by the author or publisher.

This is a charming, fast paced, Regency romance, with some Intriguing mystery and detective work. Verity Travers thought she had worked her last case when her friend asks her to help solve a crime, She can’t refuse. Of course there’s also a chivalrously attractive Bow Street runner that has mesmerizing eyes which she can’t get out of her mind. Everything about this book was wonderful. The storyline was intriguing, The characters are interesting, the romance was swoony and sweet, and the girl gets her thief and her man. I received a complimentary copy of this book. This was a fun adventure. Verity doesn’t want to get married. She is trying to earn money so she can be independent and not have to rely on her father for money. She wants to help people find items that were stolen from them. However, her mom doesn’t want that especially when the last time she was almost killed. Her friend comes to her to help her find a letter that was stolen from her. Later on her friend disappears and Verity is bound and determined to find her. With the help of a handsome bow street officer that she literally runs into while following a thief.

I loved this and hope there is a sequel. I want to know what happens with Elizabeth.
