As stability is returning to the Hollows, Rachel pursues the Atlantean mirror to undo a curse she regrets. A trip to the past with an unexpected passenger gives Rachel (and the reader) some new perspective on her own journey.

This one didn't feel as high stakes as some of the others in this series, but it was nice to get a retrospective on Rachel and her own path to power. There are some changes on the horizon after the time shift... Kisten.

The scream I made when I saw that I was picked for an advanced reader copy probably was a little unnecessary, but I was so excited to dive back into the Hollows world.

I stumbled upon the Hollows series 10 years ago and took the deep dive. It has been my go to series that I reread when I need some nostalgia. This book did NOT disappoint. The magic system in these books is so rich and descriptive, I fall in love every time I dive back in.

I tell everyone that I talk to about this series that I’ll never get over the injustice surrounding Kisten 😂 so that was a super fun part to read about. Don’t get me wrong, I love Trent, but there was just something about the way all that went down that sparked this emotional scar on my soul.

The nostalgia I experienced throughout this story made me feel all the feels! If you love this world, you will love this book! Can’t wait to see what adventures Rachel goes on next, and see some of our old friends back in action.

Demon's Bluff is the 18th installment in author Kim Harrison's The Hollows series. Set in an alternative Cincinnati, Witch-born demon Rachel Morgan and her friends (Ivy, Trent, Jinx & Pike) fight to protect the inhabitants of the city of Cincinnati--including humans, werewolves, vampires, demons, witches, elves, and pixies. In recent developments, Rachel has taken up the mantle of subrosa for the city of Cincinnati while she tries to keep Constance from murdering everyone in sight. Rachel is also caught between the possibility of self-exile in the ever after or an Alcatraz cell thanks to the curse she put on Pike's brother.

With a little help from Al/Gally, Rachel must find an Atlantean mirror to reverse a curse she put on Pike's brother, and prove to Elyse and her coven of moral and ethical standards that she does not practice illicit magic. Unfortunately, the only mirror of its kind in existence belonged to the insane demon Newt, forcing Rachel to go to the past to bargain with her for it. But the time-travel spell goes awry, dragging Elyse into the past with Rachel. They expect to land five years in the past but instead arrive two days before Rachel’s long-lost love, Kisten, dies. (If you don't know who Kisten is, please go back in time and read about Kisten, Ivy, and Rachel).

Back in a past where many of her allies were still enemies and where she can only depend on herself, she's stuck with a huge rival and has to look out for Elyse who is a constant pain in the backside. When Rachel inexplicably runs into someone from her past, Rachel knows she can't change the past and she can't allow Newt to take Elyse as her familiar. If she can find a way to work with Newt and prevent Elyse from becoming the demon’s next familiar, they might all get home where Trent is being hunted down by bounty hunters for his past actions.

*It's fair to say that I wasn't exactly jumping up and down while reading this book. Especially knowing Rachel once again made a potentially big mistake. I hated Elyse. She's a whiny, sniveling, trouble maker, but part of me felt bad after what happens when they return to the present. Was it really necessary to bring HIM back? So, are we now going to have to worry about feelings getting hurt and causing Trent pain? We shall see.

Even on book 18, Kim Harrison has with Demon’s Bluff created an immersive story, with action that is fast paced and complex characters. Even when all alone and without allies, Rachel can still find a way to make friends, create change and confront her past.
One of the aspects I like the best is Rachel going into the past and confronting the man she once loved. Even though she has moved on with a new partner, having her tangle with Kisten again is satisfying as a reader. For me, I always missed the character and find it intriguing for Rachel to handle that narrative from a very different angle and viewpoint. As a writer, I appreciate the skill that went into writing a book intersecting with previous novels. And Kim Harrison does a fantastic job of keeping her timeline intact.
I loved the complexities of the relationships, particularly between Rachel and Elyse. There are surprising twists in the story and the challenges Rachel faces as she confronts her past. It is an incredibly immersive story with engaging characters and one with a great resolution as well, one that will cause ripples in the universe of The Hollows.
If you like urban fantasy at its best and are a fan of Rachel Harrison, I suggest reading this next book in the series. It won’t disappoint. I do recommend you to have at least read the earlier books in the series as the story will have more impact for you. But if you love the series, you will love this novel, especially the stunning end.

Absolutely love Kim Harrison and her Hollows series, and this book is no exception. I really enjoyed all the different aspects of this one, and despite what I had heard, there is still plenty of Jenks, Ivy, Trent, and Al in the book to keep people satisfied. Personally, I also really enjoyed the time-travel part of the book and all the different twists and turns that that gave us. Especially some of the parts with Newt, Kisten, and the coven member Scott. It was a really well done time travel - usually in books where they have to travel back in time, it can feel clunky, this time it felt seamless. I will also say this - Demon Rachel is so much better than Witch Rachel - I love how her magic has grown and she's a real life spell caster now. She has the muscle to back up her claims. The only part of the book that gave me pause was the fact that she and Elyse seemed to have the exact same conversation about 15 times. She could have cut out 2/3 of those and it would not have been missed. The final reveal having to do with a certain vampire really made me happy and I cannot wait to see where it goes from here. Excellent book, highly recommended, and I will 100% be buying this (and actually already have) for the library!

Review copy was received from NetGalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

So, The Hollows series was the very first Read-along I hosted in my early days of blogging at Yummy Men & KickAss Chicks. I chose it because I had heard so many great things about it but had never read the series. It was also 2014 and the year the "final" book was released, Witch with No Name.

I'm really enjoying the extension of this series. I almost like it more than the original books. Because so many of the characters and relationships have histories, I would read this series in order. There will likely be spoilers for the series here.

I always enjoy the books in this series. The beginning of Demon's Bluff felt a bit slow and personally I felt frustrated with the situations. Trent is on the run from law enforcement and living in the ever after. Rachel is subrosa for the city where Constance is not a good leader. Pike and Ivy do the actual work.

The witch coven is young and wants to either have Rachel go to Alcatraz or work for them as an enforcer and do all their dirty work. I really am not a fan of Elyse or Scott, although they exchanged roles through the story. She needs to uncurse Brad to stay out of their clutches. Elyse has tempted her with a book that has a spell to bring Kisten back.

Rachel has less time with Trent and I really prefer when she works with him, Al, Jenks, Bis and Ivy to make things better. But Rachel figures out how she might uncurse Brad and sets on her own journey. It is risky and dangerous, but she is determined to undo the wrong done to Brad. Unfortunately, Elyse butts in and goes with her.

Rachel shows all her long experience and more patience than I possess with Elyse. Because things go wrong, she does end up seeing Kisten. That ends up being heartbreaking all over again, but with slightly better results. Her encounters with Newt are on the edge of disaster.

I loved the strength of Rachel tempered with patience and compassion. She's very aware of how her actions may affect others, caring more than others do. The pace picked up well after the beginning. My personal irritation was just having to deal with the coven rather than working with the characters I already know and love. Things end up in a reasonably good situation but I doubt that will last.

There's nothing quite like being in the hallows again! Kim Harrison never disappoints and always gives a nail biting, breath holding adventure. These characters engrave themselves into your mind. I did miss the original gang though. Demons bluff is a must read!

This was fantastic! If you have been following my reviews for any time, you probably already know that I am a big fan of Kim Harrison’s writing and have a particular soft spot for the Hollows series. This is book 18 in the series, so I feel like I know Rachel, Trent, and the rest of the crew, as well as some of my family, and I am invested in their lives. I was hooked by this story right away and couldn’t wait to see how things would work out.

I love it when a book can surprise me, and this book went in a direction I never saw coming. This book sends Rachel back in time, along with the new leader of the coven, Elyse. They didn’t go too far back so it was a time that readers of the series will quickly recognize. Rachel has her hands full with the impossible task of dealing with Newt, plus Elyse tends to make everything more difficult than it needs to be. My heart went out to Rachel as she worked to complete her mission while being forced to face a difficult time in her past.

Marguerite Gavin is the voice of this series. I couldn’t imagine listening to anyone else even attempt to bring this colorful cast of characters to life. She does such a great job with all of these characters and I love how consistent her voices have been throughout the series. She can add just enough emotion to her reading to make these characters feel read. I am positive that her narration added to my overall enjoyment.

I would highly recommend this book to fans of the series! This is the eighteenth book in the Hollows series which I would recommend reading in order since the character relationships grow and change throughout the series. I had a great time with this book and cannot wait to read more of Kim Harrison’s work.

I received a review copy of this book from Ace and Penguin Random House Audio.

It was wonderful to be back in the Hollows with the eighteenth book in the series. Demon’s Bluff by Kim Harrison has Rachel trying to undo a curse, bring back the dead and find some time with her elf. Action-packed with dangerous time travel and a stowaway. I couldn’t help but devour the book.

After the troubles and hints at the end of Demons of Good and Evil, let’s just say I needed to devour Demon’s Bluff. I mean, Kisten. Need I say more? It took a lot of books and a whole lota growth from Trent to turn me, so the whole idea had me all topsy-turvy. Trust Harrison, this time traveling witchy tale is one you’ll want to devour.

The coven of moral and ethical standards demands she untwist a curse. She herself wants to undo the curse she was tricked into using, but to do that, she needs a specific item once owned by Newt. Of course, Rachel, with the unwilling help of Al she decides to go back in time and retrieve said item from Newt. It would have worked perfectly except an annoying snit, er I mean once of council hitches a ride thinking Rachel is making an escape.

They end up in the timeline where Kisten dies. Newt wants her witchy friend for a student and everything goes wrong. Or does it? Gads, I love this series and Harrison is magic in the telling. I am so glad to be getting more stories, as I don’t think I’ll ever grow tired of Cincinnati and our witch demon.

I would be amiss if I didn’t recommend reading or listening to this series in the order of its release. The character friendships, romances, transformations and sheer shenanigans make it a necessity. However, once started I don’t think you’ll have any regrets. It’s one of my favorite urban fantasy series.

I laughed, got mad, cried and enjoyed every moment with these characters and the time travel storyline. We get hints about Rachel’s future and oh boy!

This was a good addition to the Hollow's series. Watching to see what Rachel comes up with to solve her problems is always entertaining. I did miss having the full cast in the book, but it was still highly entertaining. I just look so forward to every scene that has Trent in it! Rachel goes into the past and we really get to see how much she has grown throughout the series. She doesn't have all of her friends to fall back on and it adds a level of stress for her with everything she does.
This is a series I definitely recommend. If you have not started this series I would highly recommend that you go to the first book and give it a try.

When I first read the little teaser for Demon's Bluff, it scared the heck out of me. I wanted to read it immediately, but I also wanted to avoid it forever and pretend there was no chance Rachel might go back in time and completely screw up all of her character development and her relationship AND time itself. But BELIEVE ME WHEN I TELL YOU: ALL OF THAT WORRY WAS FOR NOTHING!!! This was one of the best installments I've read in The Hollows series in the last few years, and honestly I really liked all the other ones too, so that's saying something. I never should have doubted the genius of the great Kim Harrison, because she DELIVERED.

For those who didn't read the synopsis, in this one Rachel goes back in time to find an Atlantean mirror, specifically to book #5 (For a Few Demons More). I went back in time myself and reread a few parts in book 5 to refresh my memory (honestly worth it to revisit the arrest at the altar) and it really highlighted how seamlessly Harrison wrote Rachel back into her past, while showing off how much more mature and capable she is now. Ivy and Jenks couldn't make the trip, much to their chagrin. However, neither was far from Rachel's thoughts throughout her adventures in the past, so it felt like they were there in spirit. And Rachel's love for Trent shone through more than anything, which soothed my yearning for more page time with him. Finally, I won't comment on the elephant in the room (a word that begins with K)... you will have to read for yourself to find out. All in all, an excellent addition to The Hollows, definitely a 5 star read. I still can't believe I waited months to read it and then finished it in just a day... Don't be like me--suck it up, read the darn book, and be happy you did!

All my thanks to Berkeley Publishing Group and Ace for providing me an ARC of Demon's Bluff. My review is, as always, truthful and unbiased, and I hope it helps introduce readers to new books they will love!

I really liked this book with the mixture of women empowerment and keeping the MC in a power position.

Rachel Morgan never fails to satisfy when I want to read something funny and touching and that takes place right in the Heart-of-it-All Ohio! I was so pleased when Kim Harrison started writing Hollows books again and the series isn't showing any signs of slowing down. In Demon's Bluff, time-travel gives Rachel the chance to save a past love, while also searching for a way to save herself in the present. All this and a perfect cliff-hanger for Book 19!

Thanks to Netgalley and Berkley for the pre-release copy of Demon's Bluff by Kim Harrison. Below is my honest review.

What an emotional rollercoaster, and good grief, Kim, why do I have to wait for the next one???

This one definitely dredges up some historical events in the world of the Hollows, and rips open some old wounds for Rachel Morgan and crew. With the Coven breathing down her neck and a ticking countdown towards their punishment for her cursing Brad, a city to run, and all sorts of supernatural factions to keep in line, her plate is definitely full. Her attempts to find the item needed to uncurse Brad lead to a special trip, one that ends up including an uninvited and unwelcome tag-along. Back in a past where many of her allies were still enemies and where she can't depend on herself, she's stuck with a huge rival and has to look out for the unexperienced coven member.

But there's also the unexpected consequence of someone she cared about very deeply still being around then...

I loved this one, and really can't wait to see the ramifications of this story's events in the next book.

Highly recommended, but this one SERIOUSLY involves much of Rachel's history, so it's not the best place to jump in. Your best bet is to binge the series. It's fun, I promise! :D

I was so lucky to receive this ARC from NetGalley. Kim Harrison is one of my absolute favorite authors, and it was her Hollow Series that got me back into reading. I literally cried when I saw I had been accepted for this. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity.

To start, this book does not disappoint. This went above and beyond my expectations.

I think the story excelled at getting us back into the story where the last novel left off. We begin with Rachel balancing Constance shenanigans and the Coven coming after her for the illicit curse on Brad. We don’t stay too long on current affairs because the meat of the story is Rachel trying to figure out how to get an Atlantean Mirror. The one thing I adore about these books is the magic system, and just how clever Kim Harrison is with writing the logic behind the spells and curses. You get that with the logic behind how Rachel figures out which curse to modify so she can travel into the past. The time travel, I loved how it was done. It was well done how it navigated this book's endeavor around the plot of book five. It was fun seeing certain characters again, and watching a more powerful Rachel handle them. As someone who was a fan of Kisten, I was happy with how this book handled his story. The book ended on both a happy and frightful note, which has me excited to see what else is in store.

Overall, I loved this! It’s a great addition to the series. A lot of major players are missing from the main narrative, but it’s still a really fun read.

All the stars!

Thank you Netgalley and Ace for an advanced copy.

This is a real zinger for the Hollows series. Rachel is back with a deadline--find an Atlantean mirror to undo a curse or end up in real trouble with the Coven. Matters get even more complicated when the 'fix' requires so time jumping that might have some dire consequences.

This book will make fans feel all the feels - good and bittersweet.

Amazing as always, I love this World that Harrison has built. Up over so many books, A crazy good read, love the old movie titles for the title, it’s what made me pick up the first book.

I was excited to see this book, and I remain really happy the series came back. That said, I liked this installment but I didn't love it. It was really fun, even though it did admittedly move a bit slower. Remains a strong installment to a fun series, and it's, as always a great read. Excellent timing for it to be released near halloween, and excited for what comes next!

Rachel is still being harried by the coven, partly because of the curse she has to break using an impossible to find Atlantean mirror, but mostly because they are petty, jealous witches.
But because Rachel, being Rachel, feels that she must do the right thing, even when it's hard, she comes up with an impossible plan to find the last mirror, in Newt's hands, in the past.
Since nothing ever goes easily for her, Elyse, head of the coven of hypocritical witches (okay, I'm so not a fan!), get her whiny butt sucked along back in time with Rachel and proceeds to get in her way at every turn. And maybe even help out a little, but only after making things more difficult for the both of them.
I missed seeing Rachel's main companions through most of this book. Jenks, Al, Ivy., Trent et al could not go on this time travel adventure with her. But there was a very interesting/cool interaction with Quen that just makes me adore that elf even more.
A very fun time travel adventure... and with no spoilers... for every one worried about Kisten's death/or not? interfering with Rachel and Trent's romance.... as always Harrison is perfect in the way she handles Rachel's love life (even when Rachel herself isn't!)

I received an e_ARC from netGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I was excited to get to read this book. I did enjoy it. I've read the whole series. But this book was a bit slower in my opinion compared to the other books in the series. And I can't wait to see where the changes that happened take the store.
If you are die hard Hollows fan, you have to read this one.
