The Queen’s Choice
By Kayla Kluver
January 28, 2014
The Queen’s Choice is a new series from Kayla Kluver the author of Legacy series. In the book sixteen year old Anya learns that the Queen of the Faerie Kingdom, and also her aunt, is going to die soon and her cousin Illumina is the next heir to the throne. But she is inadequate to be queen but Anya wants nothing to do with the crown. She must find His Majesty Prince Zabriel. That brings Anya into Warckum Territory to find him.
Anya was a fearless, daring, brave character.
I am a huge fan of Kayla’s writing style. It is a lyric, beautiful novel.
Thank you to Harlequin Teen and NetGalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
I got accepted to review this book years ago, but unfortunately never got around to reading it. Apologies for this.
I'm sorry I was not able to read and review this book before it was archived due to serious health issues
I got this book years ago from Netgalley and never got into it. I think I had a feeling about it then.
I found it difficult to even care about the story or characters and found myself having to repeat pages because I zoned out- mostly during the middle. Just a lot of wandering into new trouble for Anya and Shae (who majorly got on my nerves by then). Honestly, Anya just seems to have a savior complex and just wants to judge everyone, regardless of whether they are actually right or wrong. She just thinks she knows best for everyone and it really put me off her- pretty much since she left to take over Illumina's task. She wants to 'save' everyone, mostly from themselves. And when I didn't care about her- the protag, I didn't care about any of it. Didn't care who betrayed her or lied to her or any of it. Turn them in. Whatever. It was tedious and long and I think it would have been better if a couple hundred pages had been removed.
A little known author has penned a great young adult fantasy - I really enjoyed this and think fans of susan dennard will also. You can tell that she is a young author, but she has great promise!
This book was a slow-paced story where almost nothing happens. I never had the feeling I was sucked into the story and I was always looking for more. I want to give credits for the fact that Kluver stayed away from any fairy cliches and that there is hardly any romance. Anya is already in a relationship and her tension for a human guy was a nice addition.

The only thing I liked about this was the writing style. Kluver's prose is gorgeous. The descriptions were lyrical, the musings poetic.
I didn't like the characters. They were pretty stupid most of the time. I couldn't relate at all. The character building is a complete bust in my opinion.
And the story line? So boring, All capitals and three exclamation marks.
Seriously predictable. And frankly, the actions of the MC, make no freakn sense. Why go on that quest?
Then Kluver threw in a bloody love triangle as well. SO here I was suffering through beyond detailed long wound predictable stuff and now I had endure a love triangle as well?
Well, I decided I wont.
I guess writing style isn't everything after all.
I wanted to try this author once more, but didn't get a chance to read this before it expired. I keep watching for it to go on sale on Nook like her first series does so I can buy it! :)
