I loved it! I stayed up last night because when I started I had to finish. Frindle was published back in 1996. Just a few months before he died in 2019 Mr Clements sent a manuscript in to his publisher for The Frindle Files. Since then, working closely with the family this book came to be. What a treasure to have this book released soon. Great follow-up to the original with a modern twist.

Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy to enjoy. Such a wonderful reading experience to travel back to this story but with an update to date viewpoint. I can picture many teachers reading this aloud and putting into student hands to explore the secrecy of the #FrindleFiles !!

Frindle left an impact on me when I read it years ago as a fourth grade teacher. To prepare for the sequel, I reread it. I am so glad I did. The Frindle Files takes up the story about 25 years later. This time Josh is a student who is determined to have his LA teacher, Mr. N, allow students to use laptops rather than write assignments by hand. Josh is a coder and resists the no tech zone established by Mr. N. As in Frindle, both teacher and students learn valuable lessons. As usual, the lessons are slipped in slyly with humor. The lesson includes appropriate use of technology. I’m cheering. As Andrew Clements’ farewell, he has left us with a masterpiece.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was a wonderful follow up to the "old" book Frindle (which I hate to call old, but, alas, my students view as old). I loved the update of the story, setting it into the contemporary world of ubiquitous technology, but still asking the same thematic questions of the value of learning. Highly recommended, and we will be purchasing several copies.

As someone who grew up reading and loving Frindle, this book was so fun! I had my daughter, a big Andrew Clements fan, also read it and she raved about it. She read it twice the day I gave her access to the book. Definitely recommend!

I thought this was a good timely follow-up to "Frindle", which I loved as a kid. I liked how these students too learn to stand up for what they believe in. You don't have to have read "Frindle" but it helps.

Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.

This was an incredible sequel to Frindle! An all-around wholesome, heartwarming story for all ages. It can be read without having read the original, but is more meaningful when reading as a follow up. I loved the characters as well as the story. Students will appreciate that content is timely.

This is such a fantastic follow up (25 years later) to Frindle! I am so grateful that it was finished and published after he passed. Both books show students ways to take a stand for what they believe in without harming others. The commentary on when technology is an appropriate tool to use is very relevant. If you haven't already, read Frindle first for the full impact of both books. Recommended for grades 4 & up.

What a delightful sequel to Frindle. I know this book will be flying off my Media Center shelves. To this day, the original is still among my students' favorite selections.
Nick emphasizes exploration and curiosity, welcomed traits of all who strive to learn. A true tribute to Clements whose originality and sensitivity, as always, shines in these pages.

What a fun, current follow up to Frindle. I liked the overlap of characters and themes from the first book. It brought current events in while also keeping some of the things that were important in the OH.

Thank you @NetGalley for this e-ARC, and to all who lovingly brought this book to publication. What a treasure & gift for all of us who have loved FRINDLE! I can’t wait to hold a finished copy!
This book is a love letter to teachers who encourage their students to ask questions! Twenty-some years after the events of Frindle, Josh - a code-loving techie - finds himself at odds with his language arts teacher, who doesn't allow any tech in his classroom. When Josh discovers a secret about the teacher, he decides to "hack" the classroom - with unexpected results! I loved the twists and turns in this story, and the most satisfying ending. I teared up just reading the introduction, and hugged the book when I read the last page. This will be a fantastic read-aloud to accompany Frindle! Highly recommend for grades 3+

After such a great book like Frindle, how can a sequel ever compare?
Well, Frindle Files NAILED IT!!
A brilliant, funny, engaging, contemporary story that brings everything full circle as only Andrew Clements can.
A true tribute to an amazing author who really knew how to give over the heart of a story.

A great follow up to the original. It was great seeing how Nick grew up and how he is changing other students lives with his own experiences. Josh is a typical kid who loves technology and finds a way to get more of it in the classroom. Along the way, he shows good decision making along with making mistakes. This shows some realistic growth and the story has a similar message to Frindle, but updated for today's kid.

I recieved a free eARC of this book, and am excited to get to review it and share my honest opinions.

I teach kids, so I basically have to love Andrew Clements books. Few authorshavd managed to consistently tap into how kids think and feel. And like so many others, his death felt like losing a personal friend. Seeing that the Frindle Files was to be released was therefore both a chance for a small resurrection, mixed with fear, because I've read books written from author's drafts after their death which didn't live up to the original author's level at all.

I'm pleased to say that Josh is a wonderful successor to Nick, and The Frindle Files does an admirable job of bringing the Frindle story into the 2020's. I am very glad that the current crop of middle grade readers have this last gift from Clement-and a thorough introduction to Strunk and White in the process.

Andrew Clements, the mastermind behind the legendary "Frindle," has gifted us with a final masterpiece – and I couldn't be more ecstatic, even if a frindle isn't my writing implement of choice! "The Frindle Files" deserves a ten-star rating, if such a thing existed. It's a glorious homecoming for fans of the original, seamlessly weaving the timeless love of language, the power of educators, and the magic of reading into a thoroughly modern context. (And if I could, I'd give Frindle a ten-star rating, too!)

Remember the struggles of Nick Allen and his renegade verb "frindle"? Well, get ready to meet Josh Willet, a tech-savvy kid who stumbles upon a hidden piece of Nick's past. This sets off a chain reaction that reignites our love for E.B. White and his "Elements of Style" (hello, Mrs. Granger!), reignites our own coding aspirations (anyone else suddenly crave a Python refresher?), and most importantly, reignites the sheer joy of getting lost in a good book.

While the story clocks in around 125 pages, its conciseness perfectly underscores the core message:
words have immense power.
Choose them wisely,
wield them thoughtfully, and
witness the impact they can have.

Clements masterfully weaves a parallel between the art of writing and the logic of coding – a brilliant strategy to engage even the most reluctant readers, perhaps those video game aficionados who swear they're "too busy" for a book. The narrative also tackles the modern social media conundrum – its benefits, its pitfalls, and the daily dilemmas it presents to today's youth.

Speaking of beloved teachers, Mrs. Granger may have had her hands full with "frindle" all those years ago, but Mr. Nicholas in "The Frindle Files" faces a whole new set of challenges. Is there a connection between this, you ask? Well, that, my friend, is a mystery you'll just have to unravel by diving into this spectacular novel yourself!

So, for a story that's nostalgic, thought-provoking, and utterly delightful, "The Frindle Files" is a must-read. It's a fitting farewell from a legendary author, leaving us with a renewed appreciation for the power of language and the enduring impact of a truly great book.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC. I've already pre-ordered my copy!

I adore Frindle — short and deceptively simple, it just gets better every time I read it. Andrew Clements was a master at writing “school stories,” and The Frindle Files is a worthy finale. I flew through it in one evening and can’t wait to revisit it with my kids and students.

My son loved the first book when he's classroom teacher read it to him in third or fourth grade. When he heard there was a new one out he was so very excited. Soon as we got the copy he went to his room and plowed through the entire book faster than I've seen in a long time. Andrew Clements he's one of his favorite authors, he has a thing for classics and classic authors. I'm so glad that this book lived up to his expectations and he even told all his friends that there is a new book coming out, he told me to purchase it as soon as it comes out so he can add it to his collection

Thank you netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you (or your students) liked Frindle, they will love this follow up bonus book. It's amazing that Andrew Clements had one more book in the vault for his readers and I can't be more thankful. What happens when two students find our that their teacher, Mr. N., might be Nick Allen, the young boy who started the "Frindle" movement years before? Will they keep their teacher's secret or will they tell everyone? Elementary students will enjoy reading this book!

What a pleasure it was to read an ARC of this last book by Andrew Clements.
Thank you NetGallery!
This new chess game between student and teacher over the gift that is writing and words and literature is just as brilliant as the original.
I appreciate that the author’s characters maintain respectful relationship with one another, while challenging one another to grow.
I love the nudge to older students to go ahead and reread the beloved classics from their early years.
Just lovely.
For Wilbur!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book.

I absolutely loved this sequel. It's a fantastic follow up to Frindle, and such a pleasant surprise to hear of its release. It does a great job harnessing the power of a student voice and tying it in with the perils of technology in the 21st century. I can't wait for students to get their hands on this one.
