This is the first book of The Cornish Ladies series. In this story, Morvoren travels back in time when she falls into the sea while on a fishing boat with her boyfriend. She ends up back in 1811, and is rescued by Kit, who is a smuggler and is waiting for a shipment. Because of her knowledge from the future. Morvoren later realizes that Kit will be killed, but she's not exactly sure how that is going to happen. Morvoren may just end up rewriting history as she tries to save the man that she is slowly falling in love with. An interesting and intriguing story!
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This was a fun time travel regency romance that gave off Poldark vibes of smugglers and Cornwall. I enjoyed Kit and Morvoren's romance and will definitely be looking for book 2, The Cornish Bride, that is about Kit's younger sister, Ysella.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.

Great premise but not as great execution. I found it hard to relate to the heroine, she felt very disconnected from her situation. Like, she seemed very unconcerned about her life in the present day. Does she have parents, siblings, a dog? Who knows. Also I found it took a long time for the couple to properly interact. Halfway through the book and I didn't have any reason to care about them getting together.
I have to agree with other similar reviews of the book and, while the plot interested me, the way the mc reacted/went about the whole time-travelling 200 years thing was not very believable at all. Never freaked out, wondered how to get back.
Otherwise I found the plot a little too slow for my taste.
I think it was an okay read but I won't keep reading more from this saga
I just loved this book. Morvoren falls into the sea and goes back in time to 1811. Kit is a Viscount and a smuggler. It was so interesting to see Morvoren's opinion on life in 1811 and how strange everything appears to her. Kit's sister ysella was a treat. I look forward to her and Sam's story next! Thank you to netgalley for the ARC. Opinions are my own.
Morvoren is in Cornwall on vacation with her boyfriend. All he can think about is fishing, while Morvoren has a very real fear of water. A freak storm and wave tosses Morvoren out of the fishing boat into the water. She is fished out of the water by Kit Calyon, not realizing it is 1811. Kit takes her to his uncle's house to dry out, as well as taking her Penzance to find the place she had been staying with her boyfriend. The transportation to and from Penzance, as well as the missing hotel help her realize she is not in her time, but in fact is in 1811. Morvoren wonders why she has been sent back 200 years.
This is a wonderful story with the historical aspects of Cornwall and smuggling well researched.
I enjoyed the enthusiasm of Kit's sister, as well as the building relationship betwen Kit and Morvoren.
You don't want to miss is wonderful romantic story!
This book was just what I wanted in a historical romance story. The main characters were very well done and the banter was very entertaining!
I got this book for review and i couldn't stop reading it. I like the whole relationship between Kit and Moroven.
The whole book its basically the main character Moroven goes on a fishing trip with her boyfriend and she ends up falling over into the sea and I feel like she time travels to another era in 1811, and this man named Kit fishes her out thinking its a mermaid but a girl instead of a mermaid and he doesn't know where she came from because its the sea horizon nothing around but water. I found it funny when she said where is my phone and the guy just looked at her funny. He was scared his uncle would find out he found a girl because he didnt want her to uncover the fact that their smuggling goods and the uncle didnt want anyone around. Over all if you like the show outlander or time travel this is a good book for you.
This is my own opinion thank you netgalley for the book for review.
I thought that this was a really good book. There is a very seductive and tension filled balance between desire and doubt in this book that gives not only your heart but also your mind a workout as you read it. Once I got a taste of the steamy/sweetness that this couple generated I was addicted.
While on holiday in Cornwall, Morvoren Lucas agrees to accompany her boyfriend on a sea-fishing trip, despite her fear of the water. When a freak wave tosses the fishing boat, Morvoren is flung into the sea, only to find that she has travelled back to 1811. She is found by Kit Carlyon when he is out waiting for shipment from Brittany, that he and his uncle are smuggling into England. Kit reluctantly takes her home to his uncle, fearing that his activity as a smuggler might be uncovered. Yet in realising that she has gone back in time, Morvoren knows that Kit is going to be killed in the cove below where his uncle lives, as she has visited the museum in modern Penzance which displays the events. The one problem that she has is that she doesn’t know when this is going to happen.
Whilst the premise of the story was great, the story did move fairly slowly and didn’t quite have the pace that it should have. I did find this a disappointment and struggled to keep motivated to read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I thought this was a historic romance for adults and didn’t mind the time travel as it can be quite entertaining. But the heroine speaks and thinks like a 16 year old. It was unbearable.
The book should mention that it’s for young adults.
This book wasn’t for me.
You have a time traveling plot where the person who time travels doesn’t freak out that they’ve suddenly gone 200 years in the past, can’t get back, doesn’t have any way of explaining why she’s suddenly shown up. If I ended up 200 years in the past I’d be freaking out. The FMC doesn’t mention things she left behind and doesn’t look for a way back to her own time. I just couldn’t get behind her fitting in so well for being from the future.
The actual plot of the book was soooooo slow. Like nothing happened until the 80% mark and at that point I was skimming.
Everyone that knows me knows that I love anything mermaid related, which real mermaids or a pun. I absolutely loved this book. I enjoyed the characters and the romance was just wonderful. I cannot wait to see what next in store for this series.
