I am only giving this book four stars because I found it very slow moving and longer than it needed to be. There were many good lessons in the book, but I think it could have been shortened and still had the lessons. The ending came quite suddenly and did surprise me a little. The story was good, but slow especially in the beginning. I was given this book to review.
A Truth Revealed by Tracie Peterson is unlike the first two installments of The Heart of Cheyenne series. This one has a little bit darker plot. While there is romance, this one has much more to do with familial relationships and forgiveness. Laura has to come to grips with her father not being what he seems, while Will has to decide if he can move past some unexpected family trauma to be a missionary to the Shoshone people.
While Laura is such a sweet girl, I feel like her character lacked the depth that I saw in Mary Beth and Melody. Her father is obviously manipulating her, and she wants to think the best of him. I don't mind this to a certain extent, but I thought she should have come to terms with it earlier in the book. Then we could have watched her grapple with this issue more than we did.
There was an out-of-left-field twist at the end that seemed a little abrupt. Basically I would have liked a little more development of what occurs in the last quarter of the book. Overall, an entertaining read, but not my favorite of the series.
A special thank you to NetGalley and Bethany House for this ARC.
First off, I'd like to say while the cover makes this look like a sweet Christian romance novel, there is so much more depth to this book!
I've read this author before, but it has been a while. She adds a lot of faith into her writing. This book specifically dealt with a lot of different emotions and struggles and how they are dealt with from different Christian perspectives. I like the way it makes you see certain situations from both a believer and a non-believer's viewpoint at times. There were even times in here where characters struggled with their personal faith and how it affected their outlook and desires of life.
I thought this book was interesting in how the daughter, who had been separated from her father for half of her childhood, chose to get to know him better before judging him for the actions that she disagreed with. This is definitely contrary to how most people would seem to react in today's "I'm right" or "me first" society.
As a Christian, I found this book refreshing as it dealt with people's faith throughout different emotional problems and how reading about it helped me look at how I approach issues. I think these books can help strengthen one's beliefs and help them even to see new perspectives on similar issues in their own personal life.
I also really enjoyed the circle of friends that the main character created. Whenever she was struggling, she looked to share her burdens in order to get love and support from those she trusted. I think everyone needs this in some form in their life. Multiple characters also used Bible verses in daily conversations which uplifted or helped them focus on the right course of action needed.
Overall a good Christian novel with lots of depth and hardships.
Laura is excited to finally be moving in with her father, but her father's business isn't all that it expected. Wilson Porter, a young minister, is hoping for an appointment as a missionary on the reservation, but the death of his mother and sister along with an accident change up his plans. Together, the two build a relationship and figure out a way to justice to be done.
I enjoyed this book. It was a sweet romance with a few twists and turns I didn't anticipate. I liked Laura and Wilson's relationship, and thought that the conflict and resolution with her father were good.
The third in an amazing series of women making lives in Cheyenne at the turn of the century. This remarkable story shares insight into some hardships of life while staying focused on God and His plan. The inspirational book demonstrates God’s love is overwhelming, even when an earthly father’s love is failing. Tracie Peterson is an amazing author and I greatly enjoyed the third book in this series.
I really enjoyed this book!! The faith was amazing!! The romance was great too!! Slow burn but not too slow! The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars was because the beginning was a little slow for me. Overall, very good, solid, faith filled read! Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy, all opinions are my own!
This book was not what I expected at all! I really enjoyed Laura’s faith in God and her will to want to start a better relationship with her father. Will was a great character, seeing him struggle with his faith and watching him come back to God, was really a testament to all that we can face daily. His losses would have made anyone feel that way at times. Granite, Laura’s father was not what I expected or her for that matter, so it kept my interest! Great story and great Bible verses if you needed to find faith again!
I have just finished A Truth Revealed and found it absolutely wonderful. Tracie Peterson has held true to her skill as a writer. Laura Evans gets her long held desire of living with her father, but he's not the man she expected. In the midst of falling in love, her faith is tested in unexpected ways. I love the intrigue, the sweetness of the romance, and the strength of friendship.
I have really enjoyed this series taking place in Cheyenne this is the third and final book in the series. I’ve enjoyed learning about the railroaders and daily life in such an unsettled area. I’ve also enjoyed meeting the characters, for the most part.
Laura Evans is a young woman home from boarding school with memories of a father who was soft and gentle with her, a kind and understanding man. She was sent away after her mother’s death; her father was grieving and couldn’t offer her comfort because of deep grief. The father she returns to after all these years is a changed man, bitter towards God for letting his wife die he isn’t the man Laura remembers, nor does he have time for her.
The father is involved in some things Laura isn’t aware of, ways to make a quick buck and he hopes his connections will help him get into politics. He’s pretty good at hiding his involvement and his hired workers are there to help him with his shenanigans.
Wilson Porter has felt like he’s had a calling to assimilate with the Shoshone people, but the government keeps delaying him going to help. When a tragedy happens in his own family, he becomes disillusioned and starts to question his beliefs he’s had since childhood.
Laura and Wilson spend a lot of time together, friendship grows into more, but as dark secrets become revealed it affects them each in different ways. They must work together in perfect harmony, putting the past behind them if there’s any chance of a bright future together.
Note: I gave this book 3 stars because I don’t condone animal cruelty or even talk of it. The father suggests one of his worker’s kill his daughter’s kitten because he didn’t want it around. This did nothing to enhance the book and could have been left out. Side Note: The kitten did not die, it was rescued. I am glad to read this because as much as I enjoy this author’s books I wouldn’t have read anymore of her books if it had.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

A delightful story with such excitement and emotion that it drew me in and I couldn't put it down. A huge reminder of God's faithful love towards us.
Set in Cheyenne Wyoming I found the book interesting as we had just traveled the area on vacation. The early days of the railroad and territory life were fascinating. The characters Will and Laura were fun to journey with as they find their way through life. I appreciated the use of scripture as they dealt with loss and doubt and struggled with Gods goodness. I highly recommend this book.
A TRUTH REVEALED is the third novel in The Heart of Cheyenne series by TRACIE PETERSON, and, while it is better to read the books in sequence and follow the original characters together with the new ones, it can also stand alone.
The story starts in 1868 with Laura Evans arriving by train in Cheyenne to stay with her father, Granite Evans, after hardly seeing him for ten years. She remembers his kindness from her childhood, and it seems as though he is held in high esteem in Cheyenne. He has amassed a great deal of wealth and is generous with those less fortunate………
Gradually his true nature reveals itself and Laura and her preacher friend Wilson Porter unearth the truth, at great danger to themselves…….
I like to see how Laura and Will each deal with grief, and how they complement one another…..
This is a book with a strong Christian message, full of relevant scriptures. I found A Truth Revealed a most inspirational and exciting read, with an unexpected twist, sweet romance and loving friendships.
I cannot recommend the book highly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
The Heart of Cheyenne series concludes with this touching, inspiring story. It was great to reconnect with all the folks from old west Cheyenne—especially Marybeth, Melody, Granny Taylor, and their husbands—who befriend and aid newcomers Laura and Will. The expertly plotted story kept me quickly turning pages to see what would happen next. I encountered several twists and surprises on the way to a very satisfying ending. The characters are well-crafted and engaging. I greatly appreciate the strong faith theme of forgiveness and relying on God through trying circumstances. I love how Laura encouraged Will when his faith was wavering. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the series and highly recommend both. Note: Although there are carryover characters from the previous books, this book can be read easily as a standalone.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Laura is excited to finally reunite with her father in Cheyenne. After the death of her mother, many years ago, Laura has shuffled from boarding school to boarding school and has finally finished college. She is eager to finally know the man who she fondly remembers.
Wil Porter is a man on a mission- quite literally. He is a minister who has great plans to go and preach to the Native American's who are being relocated to the reservations in Wyoming. He is biding his time in Cheyenne until his post comes through.
Through different events, these two find themselves unwittingly becoming friends and maybe a little more when deep, dark secrets are revealed and it just might break them.
I have enjoyed this series about the up and coming town of Cheyenne, WY and the interesting people who are living and creating a community. While I felt this one was a bit drawn out at parts, it is a great addition to the series. Perfect for those long, cold, windy, Wyoming winters!
Of the three books, this one is the one I actually liked the least. I didn't find the story original--although there was a little surprise at the end. I felt the characters were...less than exciting. I didn't connect with them like I did MaryBeth and Melody. And sometimes Will annoyed me.
But this did wind up the trilogy very easy and gave a solid happily ever after. And there was a lot of faith elements unlike many other Christian fiction out there right now. Once again--"how can there be a good God when He allows horrible things to happen to our loved ones?" is the topic of choice.

This story takes you on a journey with our main characters and their respective tragedies. The third in the 'Heart of Cheyenne' series, this story is a fitting end to the trilogy with visits from old friends from previous books.
I found the heroine a little hard to relate to at first due to her extremely sunny attitude but found that the hero balanced that out. I think that it was a good move by author to make the point that we choose our attitude even in our darkest circumstances. Other themes included forgiveness, trust and doing what is right.
I receive complimentary books for various sources including, Netgalley, Authors, and other such sources. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received compensation.
What a beautiful story! And sad too.
Laura is such a great character. I can connect much but not all with her. Poor girl.
I loved that she had such awesome faith even though hard times. I found myself praying and rooting for her all the way through. There were times that I even held my breath to see what was coming next.
I couldn't put this book down and have now just finished it was so very good.
I think that in my opinion, this is the best one of all of this author's books.
There were a few surprises in the book too that made me cheer for the women.
This was such a wonderful book that I didn't want to end.
This is the 3rd book in this wonderful series. I sure hate to see it end but I also can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
I'm giving this story 5 stars for keeping me entertained all the way through.
I recommend this story.
My thanks to Bethany House publishing and Netgalley for this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
One of my favorite authors has written a page turner. Historical fiction with a touch of intrigue. The main character is adorable and Will is intriguing. The father is an unusual character in that he is so terrible. In the midst of this historical fiction, we have the villain. He has no redeeming characteristics unless he truly cares for his daughter, and that is doubtful. When I see a Peterson book, I want to read and relish...I have trouble putting down her stories until I am finished. A gift...each book...this story is a quick read. Enjoy. Thanks Netgalley.
A good ending to this series.
A good portrayal of a very evil man. Thankful for the strong relationship between Laura and God that got her through.
Looking forward to more great books by Ms Peterson.
Thank you to Net Galley for the arc.
