This book is beautiful. It's a good reminder to slow down and appreciate the things around you and your everyday experiences. While I didn't feel like there were any earth-shattering revelations in here, I did find the book to be an enjoyable experience and a great reminder of the pleasant everyday moments that we take for granted.

If you want/need a cozy reminder of the good things in life, pick up this book. I highly recommend on a day when you feel like the world is just a little too much. Plop down, pour yourself a mug of whatever your drink of choice is, and dive into this book. It's one where you don't have to read it all at once; a little at a time is sufficient. The whole book wants you to embrace the little luxuries in your day to day life and what is right in front of you.

The premise of this is wonderful but it seems this book would've either served better as a series of magazine articles, or with more images to serve more as a coffee table book.

Romance the Every Day is a lovely and well curated collection of 52 suggestions for slowing down and luxuriating outside the daily grind, written by Andrea Kasprzak. Released 1st Oct 2024 by Chronicle Books, it's 120 pages and is available in hardcover and ebook formats.

Daily mental healthcare, self-care, and support are vitally important, especially given the current state of *everything* and the author has compiled a lovely creative list of things for readers which are do-able, relatively simple, and which will bring a whiff of luxury to the every day.

The suggestions run the gamut from meditative thoughtful pauses and routines to get mind and body working, to edible treats, and moments of commune with nature walking and enjoying the outdoors. The book's graphic are restful and calm, enhanced throughout with watercolor illustrations by Katharina Puritscher. They're mostly pastels and full of small cozy details which support and enhance the text very well.

Four and a half stars. This would make a lovely gift, for home use, and for library acquisition.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This book is a good gift for anyone who needs a little encouragement or inspiration to carpe diem and enjoy more of life’s romantic beauty.
It’s a very practical, specific guide, which you can flip from topic to topic, day to day as you’re willing and able to complete each guided self-care indulgence.
Each day lists a fun task, as well as a way to savor each item, things such as such as cheese, cake, bubble baths, dance, closets, journals/diaries, dress up, farmer’s markets, gardens, hats, picnics, and so many, many more wonderful things. If you needed an excuse for self-care, or a more specific, practical guide on ways to take part, this is the perfect book for you. It would also make a great gift for a friend, a mother, a sister, a birthday, mother’s day or a fun girl’s weekend.

My TikTok feed (and, if you’re reading this, probably yours too) is all about ‘romancing your life,’ finding ways to view everyday life with the same rose-colored glasses we view special events and occasions, or the lives of others online.

Andrea Kasprzak’s Romance the Every Day posits that ‘to live life romantically is to allow ourselves access to joy in an unfair world,’ and provides 52 efforts to take to do just that.

Provided in alphabetical order, these suggestions range from ‘a slow, sensual breakfast’ to donning a fun hat to ‘give you pizzazz and increase your magnetism.’ Crucially, it provides not just what to do but how to view it through a romatic lens — don’t simply visit the library, imagine that the exact answers you’ve been searching for are awaiting you in its tomes, and are reaching out to you when a cover catches your eye.

All of the suggestions are similarly narrow in scope, designed to be accomplishable and un-put-off-able. A few prompts, like Beachcombing or Road Trips may be geographically or financially inaccessible, but Kasprzak makes an effort to provide modification ideas, which is appreciated. Each prompt is accompanied by an illustration by Katharina Puritscher, whose feminine watercolor style perfectly compliments the text and is a true highlight of the book.

If the prompts mentioned here appeal, I think you’ll find Romance the Every Day an enjoyable coffee table book to flip through and inspire a more romantic view on life. If you’re more of the jaded type, the flowery language and sometimes trite suggestions may have the opposite effect. I think, unfortunately, I lean more towards the latter group, and wouldn’t mind if ‘Romancing the Every Day for Cynics’ was Kasprzak’s next installment. Still, I can appreciate Romance the Every Day for the cute, of-the moment book it is. 4*.

Thank you to Chronicle Books and NetGalley for providing this e-arc.

This GORGEOUSLY illustrated book has so many wonderful self-care ideas. It's like living your life as though you are the main character in a great classic movie... flowers on your nightstand, browsing the farmers' market, keeping a beautiful home, long long drives and appreciating small treasures. It would be a beautiful gift for a friend. (or for yourself)
Thank you to Chronicle Books and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this beautiful book!

This is more a lovely gift book or for your personal collection. It offers a page of a topic and how it can add romance and enrich your day. It's a quick read and the illustrations are hazy in soft pastels. This offers cute advice and the author recalls moments at a bonfire or on a road trip or in a library that should spur the reader to try it themselves or reminisce about their own experiences.

This is one of those little books you keep on your shelf for the aesthetic, and pull out for little reminders and ideas time to time. ✨

The way Andrea writes is so flowy and light, I was reading such a beautiful piece of work the entire time, yet it was so simple. Never too intricate or difficult.

The ideas to romanticize your every day are so simple and sweet, like bookstores and love letters. Some things as simple as cheese or as profound as self care in bubble baths. I love that you can dive easily into each topic, or go through the entire thing - highlighting which ones stand out to you.

And the illustrations are so stunning. They fit the theme of romanticism so well. The aesthetic was there and the writing was wonderful. I loved this!

Thank you NetGalley and Chronicle books for early read!

My thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for an advance review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review..

The book’s subtitle is “Inspired Ideas for a Year of Little Luxuries”. I love this idea!

Book enthusiast I may be, but I almost never pay any attention to the Table of Contents until I need to look something up. In this book, though, I paused to enjoy it (because it’s attractive) and then wondered why the segments were listed in alphabetical order. I quickly realize, of course, it’s to make it easier for us to refer back to an idea we only remember by its key element, and we can easily find it because they are listed alphabetically! I really appreciate that degree of forethought by the author.

The introduction is beautifully written, laying out the author’s thesis of romance (beauty, pleasure of the senses) in everyday life. I strongly recommend reading it in full.

The specific suggestions – bakeries, beachcombing, etc. – are artfully written and remind us to call on not only our senses, but the information we don’t see (for instance the time consuming steps in creating a croissant, that we could otherwise mindlessly devour in under a minute). There are plenty of reminders to be present in the moment, to pay attention, to practice mindfulness.

Some suggestions won’t surprise the reader (have fresh cut flowers around; walk on the beach) but some do: “closets”, for instance, was an excellent example of applying the mindset of “romance the everyday” along with a suggestion of figuring out how to accomplish it, and then some specifics to apply at home. Another interesting one to me was “play dress-up: When you change your clothes, you change your story.”

Be sure to read the final entry, Wildflowers. It has an insightful and surprising interpretation.

Attractive watercolor illustrations are liberally interspersed with the verbiage.

This book was a delightful experience all around, and has definitely helped me upgrade my everyday point of view, to look for the magical beyond the mundane. Highly recommend it to read through, randomly dip into, enjoy the watercolors – you can brighten your day and improve your viewpoint in just a few minutes.

If you are looking for everyday little luxuries you will love this book. Chalked full of little ways to make ordinary life extraordinary in the most special of ways.

While there are no revolutionary offerings there are little practical things and suggestions that feel like, "oh I totally should have thought of that" nuggets in the book that allow you to think of life outside of "normal" and turn even the most mundane life task into special gifts.

Longing to recreate the slower version life that we were given during the pandemic, you might like this book.
