2-2.5 stars.
Adorable concept. 5 stars
The selection of quotes to subvert: 3 stars
The reactions to the quotes: 2 stars (the execution)
The illustrations (they are key to the counter quotes): 1 star
The structure, presentation and length: 1 star
The intention: 5 stars
The execution has a bigger weight than the idea, hence the 2-2.5 stars.
If the writer expands on this concept, develops it further, and without losing the freshman spirit, makes this a bit more organised, I am sure this will be a book cherished by many.
I smiled the whole time I was reading this and was disappointed when I was done. This book isn't as silly as I expected -- most of the quotes were quite good, and the additions were quite clever. I'm going to read this again for enjoyment, but I also hope to try doing this myself, adding to great quotes, because this was such fun. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
Clever concept. Clearly stateed, start with a famous quote and then complete it by turning it around, making it silly, cynical and fun. The book is well written, funny, and nicely illustrated. This concept of completing the quote and turning it inside out will lead to many party games. The book was a quick and enjoyable read, bringing many smiles to this old man, he played one, he played knick knack . . . blah blah blah.
