This book had a really interesting premise and the author did a good job in making me think that any one of the four family members could have reasonably been responsible for the death of nine year old Rose's nanny, Tina, with whom her father had been having an affair. The house itself was a major character and the mystery was a slow burn, but the author lost me a bit with the main character's past storyline, as well as what I thought was an unnecessary romance (and that has no bearing on with whom the character had the romance with; I felt it was unnecessary regardless). I also really wish that authors in general would let their characters be who they appear to be without pulling a bait and switch (deliberately vague to avoid a spoilers tag, but if you know, you know).
I really like Laura Benanti as an actress and was looking forward to the audiobook, but was a little let down by her narration.

This was an intriguing book. I would recommend to both regular mystery readers and novices to the genre. It was a whodunit, but had a unique start and “detective”. As a person with one foot in psychology and the other in law, Stella’s process was as interesting as the mystery. The child and her avoidant behavior kept me turning the pages. Also, the cover definitely sets the mood.
Plot 4.0

Thanks to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the ALC. I listened to the audiobook on Libby.

Solid 3 star read as some of the storyline felt like it didn’t match. It had a very creepy setting in the beginning especially. I thought it was going to be a lot better but I think it was over hyped by social media.

What a ride! The mounting tension kept me on the edge of my seat, and the richly crafted characters felt vividly real—and I trusted not a single one of them. Just when I thought I’d figured out the culprit, another thrilling twist took me by surprise - which of course I have come to expect from Pekkanen's books!
This gripping story flowed effortlessly, filling me with a mix of fear and emotion. With a heart-pounding climax and unexpected twists, this delightful read kept me captivated from start to finish!

A twisty family drama!! The narrator has a traumatic past and at times she seems unreliable as well. Overall great thriller! Thanks to MacMillan Audio for the early copy. #macaudio2024

I literally couldn’t put this one down, listening to the audio book and then picking up the eBook version at times when I couldn’t listen.
With HOUSE OF GLASS, Sarah Pekkanen kept me guessing with multiple twists. Laura Benanti does an excellent job with her narration and keeping me engaged. The characters were well written, Stella has a lot going on in her life, her past influences her present and her career choice. As the Barclays and their daughter, Rose, come into her life, she starts to uncover secrets in her past, while trying to untangle what’s going on with Rose.
Pekkanen kept me on the edge of my seat until the unexpected end of the novel.
Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of the novel. All opinions are my own and freely given.

I NEVER miss a Sarah Pekkanan new release!
Twisty, psychological, fast paced - her thrillers have everything I love about the genre! Her latest is a super unique twist on a whodunnit mystery and I ate it up. I was guessing until the very end!!

I finally finished listening to this audiobook that I was so fortunate to get through netgalley. I loved this book. The narrator did a terrific job, one of the better books I've listened to. The story is about a woman who is assigned a job to investigate the circumstances that led to a little girls mutism. She also has a backstory herself which is very interesting and I did not feel disappointed reading her own history and how it relates to what she does for her job in the present. Both story lines were well written and interesting and I thought I had things figured out but I was wrong. This was a very entertaining story, full of intrigue and twists and I'd highly recommend the book and audiobook. I've read other books by this author and this one was one of my favorites. Thank you netgalley

Special thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for advance access to the listener copy!
I really enjoyed House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen. This book had me hooked from the beginning. I would think I had it all figured out, but nope!
Publication date- August 6, 2024

I have read and enjoyed a number of books written by Sarah Pekkanen, so I was excited to dive into House of Glass. I was drawn in immediately and when I was done, I even went back and listened to the last hour and a half of the audiobook again because so much happened! Author Pekkanen crafted an an excellent ride full of interesting characters with plenty of dysfunctional family dynamics and secrets and so much misdirection, and I absolutely loved it! Laura Benanti was an excellent narrator.

2.5
This book was a struggle for me. I did not enjoy it, but I stuck with it because I was really hoping it would come together.
I love Pekkanen, but this book did not feel like her at all. It felt rushed and uneven. It started strong, but it felt very quickly fizzed out for me.
Audio Narration was also just ok. Disappointed that this one wasn’t for me.
Thank you to the author, MacMillian Audio, and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook production.

Thanks to this story I now have worries about falling through windows. A psychological thriller that I could not stop listening to. I did not see the ending coming, I had so many thoughts(since everyone seems to be a suspect) and was wrong with every single one (which I always enjoy more!)

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for access to this title. This was a good twisty thriller. I thought about this book even after I finished a chapter and had to move on to something else. I didn't see the end coming but I felt like there were some holes in the story. All in all I will suggest this title to my thriller patrons.

Sarah Pekkanen definitely knows how to write an intriguing mystery/thriller and House of Glass was no exception. This was my first time listening to an audiobook narrated by Laura Benanti and she's definitely added to my list of favorites, I think she captured the tone perfectly.

A solid 3.5-4 star read. Great thriller of who did it and the ending makes it all worth it. I’ve read other books by this author and loved them, so had to give this a shot. While it wasn’t my favorite of hers, it was still a good thriller to read.

House of Glass is a psychological thriller by Sarah Pekkanen that centers around the Barclay family. The story unfolds with the mysterious death of Tina de la Cruz, the family’s nanny, who either fell or was pushed from a window. The novel is set against the backdrop of a bitter divorce and custody battle over their nine-year-old daughter, Rose, who has been deeply traumatized by the events. The plot thickens as Stella Hudson, a lawyer with a traumatic past of her own, is assigned to evaluate the best living situation for Rose amidst the unfolding drama and secrets of the Barclay family.
House of Glass is a compelling psychological thriller that will appeal to fans of domestic suspense and intricate family dramas. Its strengths lie in the intense atmosphere, complex character portrayals, and the relentless pace of the plot. While some elements may feel familiar to avid readers of the genre, Pekkanen’s execution and the emotional depth she brings to the characters make it a standout read.

Unfortunately not for me. In a world with SO many books being published, I just don't see this as a must in our collection - though I imagine we will order a copy as Sarah Pekkanen is popular.

So many unexpected twists! An excellent thriller/mystery with zero gore (thank goodness). It kept me on my toes and had me guessing the whole time.
I did the audiobook for this one and the narrator was fantastic. 🙌🏼
Family drama ✔️
Who done it ✔️
Everyone’s lying ✔️
Who is next ❓

I will be honest; it’s been a few months since I finished the House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen. However, I still remember the ending as if I read the book yesterday. The book takes place right after the murder of a family’s nanny . . . possibly witnessed by nine-year-old Rose. Stella Hudson, a best interest attorney, is trying to get to the bottom of what happened.
House of Glass is everything that you want a thriller to be. The book is fast paced with lots of twists and turns. It was hard to know who to trust and the ending was very satisfying. I particularly like the backstory of the lawyer and her motivations in her role as a child advocate.
The audiobook narration was excellent. The narrator really brought the characters to life.

House of Glass is an incredible thriller that will leave you wondering who is truthful, who is lying, and who is the murderer.
This story unfolds at a slower pace, which lets the reader be as observant as Stella is when it comes to the Barclay family. After Rose Barclay’s nanny falls to her death and her parents announce a divorce, Stella is hired to determine which parent is the correct parent to have primary custody of Rose. Stella has to make this decision because Rose can’t speak - a case of traumatic mutism after the death of her nanny.
The more time Stella spends with the Barclay’s, the more secrets she uncovers. And the pace of the story allows the reader to soak in the details and come up with their own theories and suspect list, just to have to throw it out after the next chapter.
I had such a blast reading and listening to House of Glass. I did not correctly figure out who the murderer is, or see any of the twists that unfold. While I normally love a fast paced thriller, House of Glass has taught me to appreciate a slow unraveling before my eyes. I was so impressed with the layers each character has, even down to a seemingly minor side character there is a depth to their story that brings a new perspective or clue to the main plot. This is such a riveting tale and if you love having to solve the puzzle, this one is for you. The audio book was clear to understand and easy to listen to - and I could listen at a faster pace and still maintain the story. I would listen to something by that narrator again.
