Spice: open door

This was a strong 4+ star for most of the book. Then the 3rd act breakup happened, and I lost it. Ben took entirely too long to pull his head out of his ass and set his ex straight. It was so clear she wasn't there for her daughter and was doing more harm than good. I just couldn't get past it.
The first 3/4 of the book I really enjoyed. The finding of love after loss and the workplace aspect were nice. I loved how Juliana didn't just lay down and take crap from Ben when they were 'enemies'. Love a strong single mom.
Ultimately, it could have been shorter and without the bull at the end, IMO.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was definitely a right book at the right time. I devoured this book. I loved the tension and chemistry between the two main characters - enemies to lovers is my favorite trope because the banter is just so good! I also enjoyed the close proximity trope. I thought Ben was a great book boyfriend and I loved the friends in the book as well. All around a great distraction in an otherwise chaotic time.

Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy. Opinions are my own. 4.5 rounded up

Ok, this book is a total vibe. Juliana Ryan, a widowed mom who’s trying to juggle everything (including a seriously tough return to the workforce), is EVERYTHING. Imagine walking into your first day back at work only to overhear your infuriatingly attractive coworker, Ben, saying your kids and lack of experience are a liability. Yikes, right? Cue the drama.
Their feud? It lasts TWO YEARS, and it’s basically the definition of "enemies to lovers." But when they’re forced to work together, things get spicy (and not just professionally). It’s got that slow burn tension, where what starts as irritation does turn into something else. It’s not just your typical romcom – there’s real depth to Juliana's struggle and Ben's complicated past.

Honestly, it’s a cute office romance with a dash of heat and a whole lot of heart. If you’re into a story that’s more than just banter and kisses, this one’s for you.

This book was so cute! I love a curvy, sassy, confident FMC. The chemistry between Julianna and Ben was amazing. And the banter was so fun. I loved that Julianna kept a log of their battles. But I mostly enjoyed the fact that these were two single parents trying to navigate work, parenting, and moving forward with a new relationship. Two adults trying to do what was best for their children but also best for themselves. For a debut book, I thought this was well written and very engaging.

Another debut that I really wanted to love more than I did. The book was solid, but I didn't feel the chemistry between the main characters, and I didn't understand why it took two years to work up to them starting to interact. I'll probably still read the author's next book to see if this is a one off, or a style issue.

I started this book and while the premise seemed interesting, it took me a while to get back into it and by the end, I honestly don't remember much so I will leave it at it was an okay book but not sure if I'd read anything else from this author again :(

Thank you to metgalley and the publisher for the Arc.

Unfortunately this one didn’t work for me much. I didn’t enjoy the 2 year jump so earlier in. The main characters felt dull and I didn’t ever become invested in their relationship. I did appreciate the hardships of having to face life alone and raise a family after the loss of a spouse but this plot could have had more of an impact than it did.

If you enjoy an office, enemy to lovers trope then possibly give this a try.

The story reminded me of the book "The Hating Game" and while I loved that one, this one felt lackluster. There were a couple of heavy themes that were properly addressed in the book but overall, it just didn't work out for me. The romance was at times felt a bit forced.

A really wonderful debut. Loved the characters and the chemistry between the two of them. Can’t wait for more from this author!

This was a fun one! It feels like I haven’t read a single parent romance in a minute, and this had a surprise TWO single parents 💃🏻

This is one of those books where the careers of the main characters are so uninteresting to me, but their banter and the endless possibilities for workplace shenanigans kept it interesting.

Ben was giving Josh Templeman (complimentary), and the little twist of him also having a daughter was adorable.

As I get older, it’s really nice to read books with MCs that aren’t all 24. Juliana reflecting on the life and loss she had already been through was a great reminder to appreciate what you have before it’s too late. Also the hope of being able to find this kind of sustaining love TWICE and to make a family from it was beautiful.

LET'S CALL A TRUCE is a splashy second chance in life and love. This is a wonderful debut novel from Ms. Buchanan that touches on all the right bases of lost loves, going to work later in life and contentious employees. Juliana, a pretty, widowed mom is raising two girls on her own. She returns to the work force after being at home for number of years. Her first day at work and she hears a new coworker, Ben Thomas, complaining she's a risk to the company. A feud has been brewing between them for a long time. When Juliana and Ben work on a project together feelings develop between them. Sparks of attraction turn into something unexpected, a romance! However, the feud between them is on again, off again. Complications rise up and botch things between them. Do Ben and Juliana act on their newfound relationship or will they go their separate ways?

A charming, enemies-to-lovers rom-com with drama galore, LET'S CALL A TRUCE, is non-stop addictive, fun! There is stormy tension between Ben and Juliana, but somehow they learn to compromise. The author did an amazing job building up a budding romance between the two obstinate coworkers. This story is the perfect blend of smart-alecky banter, intriguing characters, heart, with humor sprinkled throughout. Pure delightful entertainment!

I really enjoyed every moment spent lost in this audiobook. The narration by Charlotte North is just fantastic. Juliana and Ben are everything together and despite starting out as enemies these two have a lot in common. I loved the interactions between the kids and the parental challenges in raising them. The chemistry is on fire from the beginning and I was completely hooked on this romance.

I think this one was read not at the right time for me.

I’m a mood reader and was not really feeling this one so stopped instead of pushing on.

I do plan to circle back to it again when the mood strikes.

Reserving from giving any rating as a result. (I just put 3 stars as I cannot submit otherwise)

I love a good enemies to lovers story. This spicy romance is full of heart, and depth. It doesn't shy away from the fact that life is complicated. There is hurt and sadness, but it's not overly heavy. I was really rooting for their happiness.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an e-arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was a fun read and gave off The Hateing Game vibes but with kids and a bit more drama.
So Juliana and Ben (main characters) don't really get off on the right foot in the beginning and that is what starts their horrible hating relationship. But boy is there so much sexual tension between these two. Oh, and they both have a mutual friend (Asia) and have to try to get along or at least make it look that way and enter the "truce".
This book held my attention, was well-written and has a few fun twists and turns as well as a great kid involved in single parents theme going on. I loved the kids (girls) sooo much they made this book so much better. :)
I have never read a book from this author and after looking into that more I realize that this is a debut book for her. I do have to say that this is a great book to start off your writing career and I will definitely be looking for more books from this author.
Great book, I would have to say this is a must-read rom-com book of 2025!
I am so glad to have the opportunity to read this book and glad to give my review.

Let’s call a truce

Is there life after love?
Juliana is trying to get her life back on track after her husband passes away. She finds herself being forced back into the workforce, while also trying to not drop any balls while caring for her two girls. On her first day back at her job she runs into Ben, an arrogant know-it-all. Fast forward to two years later, Ben and Juliana still don’t get along. When they find themselves having to work together for a project, they call a truce. Soon, things start to heat between the two and Juliana finds that she didn’t give Ben enough credit and things were not as they seemed.

While I enjoyed the book, I was not quite the target demographic for it. The miscommunication was too much for me and I wish we could have skipped some parts towards the end. Overall, I think Amy Buchanan did a really good job at creating these characters and making you emotionally invested in their wellbeing.

This was an okay read for the most part but overall, I had a hard time connecting with the characters. I love enemies-to-lovers stories but this one felt like there was more telling than showing happening. The pace felt off at times, sometimes it felt way too fast-paced, and other times it was slow. It’s one of those books that was okay to read but not memorable. I'm sorry to say that this wasn't for me.

The author was able to make the characters journey through grief and heart break very realistic and authentic. I liked that the characters had more to their personality than just their grief. I loved the side characters and their unwavering support.
