Thank you NetGalley for this arc!!
This book was fantastic, shocking, crazy. All the words!!
Absolutely fantastic!
"The Business Trip" is an excellent thriller debut with a unique writing format that keeps you turning the pages!
The plot follows Stephanie and Jasmine whose paths cross when they board the same flight to Denver. Stephanie is travelling for a business conference and Jasmine is on the run from her abusive boyfriend. The way their lives cross over is unexpected to say the least.
Thank you to St-Martin's press and Netgalley for an advanced reading copy of this book.

Rating: ⭐️💫
Genre: Suspense

Stephanie is a divorced workaholic heading on a work trip to San Diego. Jasmine doesn’t come from much, but she finally found the means to escape to a better life. Both Stephanie and Jasmine are on the same flight, and they both disappear from their lives, leaving their loved ones wondering what happened.
I’ll keep this short because I did not enjoy this one. I was intrigued by the story line and was pretty interested during the first third of the story. Once we got to the second part and new characters started to have POVs I was not a fan. The suspected “bad person’s” POV was so cringey. Overall the characters fell very flat to me. And the ending…idk that was a lot. You definitely need to suspend a good amount of belief if you want to enjoy this one. I do think if you like a lot of twists and turns, this could be up your alley.
I was excited to get an early copy of this book, and the premise is so cool--two women who don't know each other, each with big problems of their own, get on a plane, and disappear two weeks later, having left increasingly odd and erratic text messages for their friends about a strange man. But I could just not get into this book. It was all told vs. shown, and it made me feel as though I was being held at a distance the entire time.
You won't see it coming until you suddenly see it coming!.oh my goodness. I'm liking these characters and suddenly whooo and by the end its a total turn around! No spoilers, read and enjoy. I was provided an advanced reader copy and was under no obligation to write a review. The opinions expressed may own. Thanks to the Author, Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me.to read.this book..
DNF at 25%.
This read like the author was trying to cram everysingle trope within the pages. The plot was implausible and not at all organic. Much of the dialogue was cringey.
The writing, not at all poor, but too much of this felt like the author was trying to cram everysingletrope within the pages - the plot felt implausible and not at all organic as I was reading.
I was excited about starting this one, and I’m sorry I didn’t enjoy it more.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for a DRC
I really wanted to like this one, but I just did not really enjoy it. It bothered me that the whole story was basically one long narration and didn't really include any dialogue (so everything was told, not shown). I didn't like the characters, and I also found them one-dimensional and unrealistic. For example, Trent was so over-the-top that he just seemed like a caricature. I also--possibly due to the narrative nature of the story-telling--did not find the story at all suspenseful. If I hadn't requested this ARC from netgalley, I probably would not have finished it. The "twist" in the middle seemed a bit predictable. The twist at the end wasn't predictable, but it just seemed so contrived that I didn't really buy it. I did think the reveal with the voice memos was really interesting. And some of the other choices like the handicap accessible van were creative. But overall, this was not a book that I enjoyed. Thank you for allowing me to read it, and I apologize that it was not a good fit for me.
For lack of a better way to describe it, The Business Trip is very explainy. The premise of the book could be a very good one - two women get on a plane and then end up appearing to be dead several cities and a week later. It starts off okay, with both Jasmine and Stephanie looking for an escape in Madison, Wisconsin. Jasmine from an abusive boyfriend and Stephanie from a life where she feels unappreciated. But the Jasmine parts of the book feel the need to overshare beyond the point at which the story is given context to providing information that not only is completely unnecessary but dumbs down the book. Not long into the book, people that know the two women begin looking for them with suspicious results. This is heavily tilted towards Stephanie, which even though there are more people in her life that would be concerned about her disappearing, makes it feel unbalanced. People that care about her begin trying to figure out what's going on, and even after a news producer in Atlanta is arrested for her murder, they're convinced there's more to the story. Except for Garcia completely ends this storyline not just temporarily, but in the whole entire book. Then it shifts the news producer from Atlanta, who is clearly a jerk. This means the reader tends to not feel bad for him knowing what's coming, whether he's guilty or not. Then the book shifts back to very carefully detailing to the reader what has happened to Jasmine and Stephanie, where any sympathy for Jasmine and her circumstances disappears because it turns out she's pretty vindicative and petty, as well as presumptuous about other people. The book ends with a relatively interesting twist, but a completely odd ending, ending, but by that point I just really didn't care anymore. Unfortunately an interesting plot idea got dragged out into boring by going into way too much detail, when sleight of hand and minimal information is most of the key to success in thriller genre books. A complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
If you're into twisty, crazy mysteries that are fast-paced you will love this story of the two women who send the same text about meeting the same guy at a work trip as both mysteriously vanish. The twists and turns keep coming with this one and you will not want to put it down until you know exactly what happened. And you will never guess!
with gratitude to netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
The Business Trip by Jessie Garcia was fun of twists. Told by multiple perspectives, it tells the story of two women who appear to have nothing in common - Jasmine, a woman trying to leave an abusive situation, and Stephanie, and accomplished woman on a business trip. Both women and messages to friends about the same man, both women disappear, and the mystery is finding out what happened.
When the suspect is named, I first thought it was lazy writing. The person is a jerk and obvious bad guy. Then come the twists. Still told in alternating perspectives, you learn more about the women and situation. Someone is getting away with something. I didn't see the final twist coming, and while it stretched my limits of plausibility, it tied pieces together.
I'm left with mixed feelings about the book. It kept me intrigued and was a good debut novel. Knowing the outcome, I'm glad I didn't see the chapter list first as it would have given too many clues based on who the chapter's narrator is.
Thanks for the opportunity to review!

Steph is heading to San Diego for a TV news conference and Jasmine is running from an abusive boyfriend. They wind up on the same flight and both send texts to their loved ones that they have met a man named Trent from Atlanta and I’ll be staying with him for a while.
I finished this quick read in one day. It was a good debut and I was entertained. I was turning the pages trying to figure out what had really happened to these two women and I didn’t figure it out on my own. The final twist was a bit over the top but overall a good read.
I would like to extend my gratitude to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for supplying a copy of "Business Trip" by Jessie Garcia for review. This review reflects my genuine thoughts and honest perspective on the novel. I encourage readers to explore the book themselves and develop their own viewpoints. Thank you for considering my opinion prior to diving into this story.
Upon glancing at the cover of this novel, I couldn't help but think it seemed intriguing. The synopsis suggested it would be an enjoyable read, but unfortunately, I was mistaken. The first half of the book was engaging enough to hold my attention; however, the main character, Jasmine, and her jealousy towards those she viewed as superior became frustrating. While part one introduced several captivating characters, they seemed to fade into the background in the latter half of the story. "The Business Trip" had immense potential.
The story starts off strong making you care about what is happening. Then you get to the other half and you’re like what the heck am I reading? Because we then get the truth about the events in the first half of the story. Which are just so unbelievable. Jasmine, the main character is so unlikable and the constant mentioning of her bad childhood was annoying. By the time the ending rolled around the author felt the need to insert such an improbable twist that she even exceeded my low expectations. I honestly don’t know who to recommend this book to but please be cautious when reading. There is a mention of rape, and domestic abuse. Thank you to again Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for providing a copy to review.
The Business Trip by Jessie Garcia was an interesting book. I like the format of different characters’ point of view. This one had a lot. It was little hard to keep up.
Two women meet on a airplane one on a business trip the other leaving a relationship.
Soon texts to their friends and coworkers stating they are with Trent.
I thought the story was far fetched and it was hard to suspend belief. The writing was good but the story was hard to follow.
WOW! Amazing debut novel. Didn’t have a clue where the Author was leading me but I sure enjoyed the ride. Did certainly not expect the ending, or lots before that. I hope this Author keeps writing. Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
The Business Trip by Jessie Garcia
This book comes out in January 2025 - definitely one to put on your radar.
👀 What a wild read! So many POVs which added to the fun of this bingeable fast-paced thriller. Go in blind, you won’t regret it!
Thanks @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the ARC!
This was a captivating thriller and a great debut. I definitely look forward to more titles by this author.
There were so many twists and turns I was hooked as I read along to see what was going to happen next. An entertaining and enjoyable read.
THE BUSINESS TRIP is the gripping, page-turning debut from author Jessie Garcia. The plot cannot be guessed and I really enjoy this novel so much.
I received an ARC of this book from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley in exchange for my honest feedback. I am an avid reader, especially of thrillers, and I can say I have never read anything like this before. The arrangement is totally unique, and I love that even more minor characters narrate some chapters. There are a lot of strong and smart female characters in this book. I loved the little details like Stephanie & Robert both being Broadway fans and cat lovers. I really tore through this book, looking for spare minutes to keep reading and see what would come next.
I was pretty sad when it appears to find out what was happening, but late in the book comes a crazy twist. This was the one part that I wasn't a huge fan of, but I am also not sure what I would have personally preferred as the conclusion! So perhaps this twist was the best option.
One of the best, most engrossing books I have read in a while with fantastic characters and development.
I was really excited at the start of this book. It was really engaging, and the story started off with a really interesting premise and I was really invested until about half way through. I love books that are told from different POV's, but with this one I found some of the POV's were just unnecessary. The second part of the book was really stretching credibility. There were also so many plot holes that I couldn't get past.
I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this book, thank you to Netgalley and the publisher.
The Business Trip- 2 women, one flight, crazy story. This book has a little bit of everything- envy, misogyny, abuse, friendship, and more. I really enjoyed the first 60% or so, but then it began to slow down until the end. In all honesty, this won't be the only book I read from this author. I enjoyed the writing style, and think the multiple POVs were well done. It kept a good flow of the story overall. I am going to happily recommend this book to others once it is published for all. Thank you for the chance to review early.
