My son loved this book. It is a great addition to what he is learning in school. He can come home and continue to learn about the things he is learning in school.
This series is so cute! I love the personification of the punctuation. These are great for home or classrooms to show examples of how we use these elements in everyday situations.
This is the third book I've read by Kimberlee Gard and I'm loving them! They all show young readers that even if you're feeling like you don't belong, your role is important - and it teaches basic literacy skills too by having all the characters be letters (and in this case, punctuation marks too!) The illustrations are super cute, too.
This fun book is a favourite of mine for teaching punctuation and writing in my elementary classroom. The colourful illustrations and cute personal touches to each of the punctuation marks add an extra little bit of fun to this book. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
The Day Punctuation Came to Town is an incredible story that will guide young readers through their punctuation marks and intrigue kindergartners as they learn grammar.
The question mark is my favorite with her bow. Another great language based story by Kimberlee Gard. I have an emerging reader and I love reading these with him. They are colorful and well written. It is a great way to playfully introduce new topics. We will read this again and again to help us remember how to use punctuation.
This book is a cute fun way to teach children’s about punctuation! My little one loved it, the illustrations are bright and attractive to kids., it makes it easier for kids to learn and memorize them..
This is a really fun book about punctuation. My kid enjoyed this book very much. The punctuation marks are turned into characters with their own corresponding personalities. This allows kids to quickly associate each mark with their function. A great way to help kids learn reading!
Great learning children’s book. My oldest is in first grade and he enjoyed this book. Punctuation is very important and this book was a great learning tool.
In The Day Punctuation Came to Town children will be introduced to the Punctuation Family. Much like Kimberlee Gard's first book, The Little i Who Lost His Dot, punctuation marks are transformed into talking characters. There are four characters readers will meet: the very energetic Exclamation Point, the quite curious Question Mark, the dependable Period, and the unsure Comma.
When the Punctuation's arrive at school all of the letters ask, "Who are you?" and "You don't look like letters." This is the day that everyone learns all about punctuation.
The author gives each punctuation personality traits so that children can learn their significance and function. Poor Comma who has always felt lost finally sees his incredible importance in a sentence.
What a fun and non-intimidating way to learn punctuation! I hope the author plans to write another book to introduce other punctuation marks.
Book 2 of the Language is Fun series.
The most adorable language book series ever, for parents, teachers and small children. Funny, colourful and full of life.
Loved reading this to my students. It helped introduce grammar to them while keeping them engaged. It is a fun story that conveys the meaning of each punctuation and why we use it. I will continue to use this story every school year to introduce grammar to my students.
Synopsis:
Lighthearted story about the symbols needed to make sense of English writing.
My thoughts:
🤔 I think comma usage is indeed confusing, and this story can help kids who may be struggling with comma usage.
🤔 The detailed, humorous illustrations fit the story perfectly.
🤔 I loved the punctuation’s human-like characteristics! (Like freckles and wearing baseball caps!)
Who is going to love it? Those who love….
❤ The importance of punctuation
❤️ Stories about finding your fit
❤️ A book that can be the starting point for deeper conversations about the conventions of language
Perfect for my 6 year old. He loves this whole series and so do I as it teaches phonics, in this book punctuation, in a fun and playful way.

What a creative way to teach about punctuation in a way that is accessible for young children. The characterisation of the punctuation is memorable, and a great teaching tool for young children who are learning to read and write.
The illustrations helped to demonstrate the antics of the letters and punctuations, and were cheerful and bright. The joke in the illustration on the last page was particularly cute.

The Day Punctuation Came to Town is a delightful children's book that transforms punctuation marks into relatable characters. We meet Exclamation Point, the energetic one, Question Mark, the curious one, Period, the dependable one, and Comma, the unsure one who feels a little lost.
As these newcomers join the letters in school, the story unfolds, showcasing the importance of each punctuation mark. Comma, in particular, learns his valuable role in creating clear and well-structured sentences. The author's clever use of personality traits for each punctuation mark makes them instantly recognizable and engaging for young readers.
