I think these books are a must have for teaching grammar in a fun and approachable way. They are great for all age groups and have fun illustrations as well. Another hit within this series!

My 1st grader still has trouble recognizing which words need that silent e at the end to work so I think this book would help! With cute illustrations, and the appeal to young readers that there are those people that are quieter and sometimes overlooked but they are still very important!

Even silent characters can make a big difference as little silent “e” proves in this delightful picture story book. Have fun with a hunt and find read aloud adventure as little silent e saves the day for his friends in Alphabet City Elementary! A great book for young readers aged 5-8 to target spelling and phonemic awareness in a playful way.

I loved this book! It was a fantastic way to introduce this phonics concept to my elementary school students! I will definitely be reading the author's other books and adding this one and others to my classroom library. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to checkout this book!

As a teacher of Orton Gillingham I could see myself using this one with glee in the classroom. I enjoyed the simple story and how good of an accompanying text would this be for kids up to 4th grade that are struggling with the concept.

This is my absolute favorite of this series! I read it to my older child for the first time in 2021 the year after it was published and to this day when working on spelling if he misses an "e" I'll say "THE MIGHTY SILENT...." and he'll remember to add the e. We both loved this book and I now have a second emerging reader that I am using it with. The illustrations are playful, as is the story. It's fun to read and easy to remember.

Book 3 of the Language is Fun series.
The most adorable language book series ever, for parents, teachers and small children. Funny, colourful and full of life.

This is a fabulous book for phonically geared students! I read to my 7-year-old who has dyslexia and putting context to spelling really helps him learn. I'm excited to find these books!

As a teacher, I love that this is a cute story about a spelling rule. I can see using this in a classroom and challenging students to create their own spelling rule story. Fun book.

An adorable book combining difficult language concepts with the message that quiet personalities can be heroes, too!

“Little e” isn’t noticed very much at school because he doesn’t say much to the other letters. But when his classmates struggle to spell words without him, they soon realize just how important Little e can be. C-a-k becomes cake, r-o-s becomes rose, g-a-m becomes game, and so on, as Little e saves the day and rounds out the words. His classmates note that Little e may make no sound, but he sure does change the sound of words. This book would be a useful and effective means of introducing the concept of a “silent e” in an approachable and memorable format.

Thank you NetGalley and Familius for the opportunity to read this e-book in exchange for my honest thoughts!

"The mighty silent e" is a cute book about the role of the letter E. My kid (5 y.o.) is learning to read and has enjoyed this book very much. The illustrations are very cute and are in vibrant colors and the use of letters as characters adds to the fun of the book.

The book tells the story of the silent E, who doesn't get a whole lot of attention. One day, E goes missing and the other letters realize they can't make the words they want anymore.

The story gives a few examples where the letter E creates long vowels, but offers no explanation as to why. It very much relies on the adult reader to point out the differences in the sounds.

Pros: I have been enjoying all of the books in the Language is Fun series. My favorite part of the series is how letters (and sometimes punctuation marks) are the characters. This would be a great book for kids working on spelling to read because the silent e is such a tricky part of the English language!

Cons: None except I think I've now read all of the books in the Language is Fun series and would love to see more!

Thank you to NetGalley and Familius for the opportunity to read this book.

These are the cutest books! Fun story, colorful pictures, and learning all rolled into one. I enjoyed them and I am not even a kid. Children will love reading these again and again. Highly recommend!

We love this author! They do such a great job allowing children to learn about word structure and reading practice, while also allowing a story to take place that they will be interested in. This book covered how the letter E may be silent at times but is still so important to word building.

Little e feels a little left out sometimes...but mostly he doesn't mind being on the outskirts. He knows that someday it'll be his turn to shine—and when words that require a silent "e" crop up in class, it's his time to shine.

"The Mighty Silent e!" (which I may have mentally retitled as "The Silent e Saves the Day") introduces early readers to the idea that English requires (you guessed it) a silent "e" in some words to make the word sound right. (Or: som words hav an "e" becaus otherwis they don't mak sens...) Readers might not understand *why* the word works this way, but the illustrations will give them a chance to practice sounding out words with and without that dastardly—excuse me, heroic—e and maybe come up with some words of their own that might work this way. (Would be a great read for any Kates, Nates, Janes...)

Colorful illustrations personify the letters in a super cute way and might help reluctant learners to feel a little more invested in the plight of the silent e.

Thanks to the author and publisher for providing a review copy through NetGalley.

I read this with my lower elementary school-aged child. We really enjoyed the vibrant colors. The story was cute, and I loved how the friends needed to come together to make words.

This book is simple enough; it doesn’t overload kids with phonics lessons. It’s a great introduction to the “magic e,” or “silent e” (this “e” has several nicknames). Parents and teachers could pivot after reading this book to open more discussions about the “silent e” rules (as appropriate), so it’s a great jumping-off point.

Kids k-3 would be well-suited to read this book.

Thank you to Familius, Kimberlee Gard, and NetGalley for the advanced copy.

Little e has a big role to play, but when it’s time to make words at school he’s missing! Try as they might the little letters can’t make their words without him. When he does show he saves the day and all the words come together.

Side note:
This book is a part of the Language is Fun series.
My only criticism is there is no mention whatsoever of the phonics rule for the silent e. The words don’t work without e, well most of them don’t, but no explanation of why. It’s a fun story, but falls short of being an educational tool for early readers on language.
