I don't think this one was a fit for me and my reading tastes. There was a real jump scare/scary movie vibe to this book with the beast part of the story that is just not something I enjoy. There are very heavy themes in the book as well about emotional abuse and neglect and family issues that seem too much for the age range intended for the book. I think the magical aspects of the book are good and the world it's set in is interesting but overall it felt a little all over the place in terms of world building and storyline. I really wanted to like it but just didn't.
