I enjoyed the first two books in the Saffron Everleigh series, but this book fell a little short for me. Slow pacing, a lack of chemistry, some pretty ridiculous plot twists towards the end and a surprisingly small amount of botany in a book that has "botany" in the title put this installment of the series in the just OK category for me. I will still read the next book to see if it gets better again.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This one was a convoluted mystery because there were many players to keep track of. That does not mean that this was not an enjoyable read, it just means that I had to give the book my undivided attention to ensure I didn't miss any key information and to keep it all straight in my brain. I love the ending of this book, Saffron deserves some happiness.

Once again, Jodie Harris did a great job narrating this novel and I absolutely love listening to her narrating with her accent.

Thank you Dreamscape Media, Kate Khavari and Netgalley for the audio arc of A Botanists Guide to Society and Secrets.
Narrated by Jodie Harris

When I was accepted for this arc, I was hoping to catch up with the first 2 books but didn't manage it. As per other reviews, this 3rd book in the series does pick up straight from the second and I found that I picked it up as a standalone well .

Saffron is a great, strong willed character in the early 1920s. I bonded with her straight away with her wit and directness.. Saffron has a mystery that drops into her lap and her skills as an astute women with the knowledge of Botany gets straight to it. I loved the pacing of the book, it ebbs and flows which sets it at a medium pace overall. There's a great balance between character and plot line which made this book a fun read.

If you like strong female leads in books, a good mix of humour, cosy mystery and Nature then it's a series for you.
Oh and don't forget to read the authors notes at the end of the book, really insightful!

4 stars

Dear A Botanist's Guide to Society and Secrets,
I love that you picked up where book 2 ended, and kept the tension between Saffron and Alexander going strong. I loved that Eliza got to play a larger role in this story and you provided more insight into her and Saffron's past. Your whole series is fresh and fun and I love your characters and ever expanding world. I am looking forward to Saffron and Alexander's adventures continuing in book 4!

I absolutely adored the first two books in this series and this book was much the same. If you are a fan of Mysteries, academia, botany and strong female character and interesting love interests in a 1920s setting then these books are for you. Fans of Miss Fisher will love these stories

Saffron is a delightful, smart, and funny character and it is a joy to read as she goes to work both in botany and solving mysteries. The stakes never seem extremely high which makes it a pleasant read but loses a little bit of oomph in the climax.

The perfect combination of science and murder, we find oursleves following our favorite botanist playing detective, yet again. Smart, witty, and always on her feet, Saffron makes her way around London trying to solve the murders of two men. Kate Khavari does a beautiful job combing in her clear love of botany and historical fiction. The 1920s have always been one of my favorite time periods, and now I have a little more insight into science at that time. While this is a part of the series, I didn't start at the first book and had no trouble with character development or relationships.

Thank you #NetGalley, #DreamscapeMedia and Kate Khavari for the free review copy of this audiobook.

I devoured books 1 and 2 in this series and once again I dove right in! This book is no different with everyone’s favorite botanist, Saffron Everleigh finding herself helping to solve a murder. After attending a disappointing botany conference on the continent, Safron comes back to England only to have another mystery fall into her lap. This time, she'll have to work with the dreaded government to help solve two murders.

Read this if you like:
* Cozy Mysteries
* Quirky Characters

Of note, you should read books 1 and 2 to really appreciate the characters in this installment!

This is the 3rd book in the series and there is more intrigue and mystery.  Saffron continues to put herself in harms way and in this book she is actually asked to be a part of police investigation by two men in her life.  Her love life seems to be picking up speed but so to do the threats to her and those she holds close. There is a wonderful set up at the end for book 4.

If you haven't read any of these I highly recommend them.  They are smart, witty and very fun.  Set in London in 1923 Saffron specializes in poisonous plants and works for a university.  Just back from a conference she is asked by her friend and possibly more to try to find out more about an investigation despite him having condemned her for putting herself in danger too many times.

This book has a bit more of a sinister turn with a lab that her father worked at before his death, coming under scrutiny and a mysterious person poisoning lab workers. Brilliantly written, and narrated this is a joy to listen to.

Once again Saffron Everleigh finds herself helping to solve a murder. This time however the plot is far bigger than deaths in London, and ventures into government research and contractors for hire. What starts as helping Alexander clear his brother’s name, turns into spying and subterfuge to find out why certain toxic plants are being hunted and why certain parties will do anything to get their hands on them.

This installment definitely was far more complex (a zillion twists and turns in the plot) and tended to drag a bit in the middle. The love triangle built up in the second installment is addressed early on in the third book, which I liked as it makes the story about Saffron’s intelligence and wit and not just about her pining for a man. I also appreciate Saffron’s flatmate Elizabeth’s larger role, as she is one of my favorite minor characters in the series. Khavari leaves us hanging at the end with an obvious fourth installment in the works, which I can’t wait to find out what our botanical sleuth will do next.

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and of course the author Kate Khavari for the advanced copy of the audiobook. A Botanist’s Guide to Society and Secrets is out now! All opinions are my own.

I got this book from NetGalley as an Arc.

This is the first book in the series that I have read. I’m intrigued to read the others. I enjoyed this novel and I was happy that the author explained the relationships between characters.

A Botanist's Guide to Society and Secrets is the 3rd installment in Kate Khavari's Saffron Everleigh Mystery series. It follows her recurring main character, Saffron, as she navigates her life in London in 1923 where she is working as a botanist at the University of Central London. This book finds Saffron helping out her former love interest and co-worker, Alexander Ashton, by helping to prove his brother's innocence in the mysterious murder of a scientist.

I loved everything about this story! It was such an easy and fun read. This was actually my first of the series to read and it was very easy to follow. I am definitely going to be going back to read the first two books in the series. The plot was exciting and Khavari's writing kept me interested throughout the entire story. I really enjoyed the characters and the epilogue set up the story for book 4 perfectly. I will definitely be following along for the next installment!

If you enjoy historical fiction and cozy mysteries, this is a must read or listen!

A Botanist’s Guide to Society and Secrets continues Saffron’s story as she delves into yet another nursery, this one implicating Alexander’s brother Adrian. As they attempt to decipher the clues and discover who killed the man Adrian is suspected of, Saffron and Alexander grow even closer. I think this one may have been my favorite so far, and I’m ready for the next! Hope it is here soon!

This is a good series and I'm appreciating the audiobook even if I wasn't a fan of the narrator trying to play male voices.
Safron and her friends are back and it's always a lot of fun follow the investigation and the evolutions of the relationships
There's a sort of cliff-hanger that promises a new novel and I hope it will be soon
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I did not realize that this cute book was part of a series when I grabbed it and started a listen. I don't think you need to have read the other books in the series to get it, but I did feel like I was personally missing some context, or a "relationship" with Saffron. It was good though. I love the narration!

Everyone's favorite botanist is back at it again! After attending a disappointing botany conference on the continent, Safron comes back to England only to have another mystery fall into her lap. This time, she'll have to work with the dreaded government to help solve two murders.

This was a fun and smart romp with plenty of mystery and intrigue. 10/10 recommend.

As far as brilliant female accidental sleuths from times past go, Saffron is a favorite. A botanist doesnt seem like a professional who would get into a lot of trouble, but here we are, thankfully. There is enough misogyny to remind us of women's place in society long ago, but not so much that it infuriates the reader and ruins the fun. The mysteries are complex and interesting to follow, and the characters are a hoot.

Saffron has had some interesting adventures, but this book injects more intrigue and international conspiracies. Elizabeth and Lee are fun sidekicks, the romance was annoyingly delayed by stubbornness (as per usual), and new characters pivot the lives of everyone in unforeseeable ways. Enjoyable and possibly a launch for Saffron to do bigger things?

A Botanist’s Guide to Society & Secrets by Kate Khavari
Narrated by Jodie Harris
This is book 3 in the Saffron Everleigh Mystery series & a fun read to listen to. Saffron is returning from a research trip & finds that her colleague, and former love interest, needs her help to prove his brother’s innocence. After the death of a scientist sharing the same train car he’s their only suspect. Once she starts to learn more about the scientist she uncovers more than she expected & the unexpected dangers that come with that knowledge. The book ends perfectly with the possibility for more. I enjoyed listening & the narrator was fantastic.
