eek. I had no idea this was a book in a series. I do feel like if I started at the beginning it would have all made more sense I would have enjoyed it more. It felt like the characters weren't developed enough for me to care much about them but I of course know why. Putting all that aside-- I still don't feel like the story was very exciting. Even if I knew the characters & their backgrounds-- I feel like nothing really happened. There was this huge snow storm talked about & I feel like it wasn't even really used in the story like it could have been. I was left a bit bummed.
2.5 rounded up!

This was a short story that took only a few hours to read, and although part of a series, can definitely be read as a stand alone.
I listened to the audio format, and thought the performance was great!

This short story effectively harnesses the raw power of a blizzard to reveal the deeper, often uncomfortable truths lurking beneath its characters' facades. The storm’s relentless fury serves as a catalyst for unmasking hidden tensions and unresolved conflicts. The author masterfully uses the blizzard’s isolation and chaos to bring buried emotions and secrets to the forefront, transforming the narrative into a gripping exploration of personal revelation and growth. The story's dynamic pacing and vivid portrayal of the storm’s impact ensure that its themes resonate deeply, making for a compelling and thought-provoking read.

I dont normally do short stories but this one sounded really interesting so I broke my own rule and gave it a whirl.
I'm glad I did. It was a really quick exciting, fast paced book.
It's a standalone to a series and honestly, I now need that series.
Excellent narration! the ending was a bit abrupt but other than that... WOW!!
4 stars

WhiteOut is a novella well into the Lieutenant Taylor Jackson series. Taylor is taking the place of her fiancé, John Baldwin as a speaker at the annual Freedom Conference in Boston. When a blizzard knocks out the town’s power, an assassin, seeking revenge, takes advantage of the situation and creates chaos of her own.
J.T. Ellison always writes great stories, regardless of the length. Whiteout is a quick, atmospheric, action-packed thriller that you can read in one sitting. Saskia Maarleveld is the audiobook narrator and she is such a gifted voice actor. She’s articulate, easy to understand and really embodies the part.

I received an audio arc.
This is my honest review.
The narrator did a great job. I enjoyed her ability to keep the reader in the story.
I’m not sure how to feel about this book though. It was a bit messy for my liking and hard to follow.
The ending was so abrupt and I wouldn’t even call it a cliff hanger. It just felt incomplete.

I love @thrillerchick’s books and the Lt. Jackson series! Whiteout is a novella in the series and is perfect for a quick listen/read. I’m so glad that @brilliancepublishing has created the audiobook version. It is a classic Lt. Jackson mystery just told as a quick story. I highly recommend this series and this audiobook.
Thank you Brilliance Audio for allowing me to listen to this audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.
