The narrative was a bit confusing at the beginning, with us seeing both sides of the story, but it gave that extra something to make this story thrilling.

A Clean Kill by Steven Konkoly is one of those books that grip you fast and you have to hold on tight as you are pulled in to a story so unbelievably riveting. So many different moving parts, from the FBI to the CIA, from the serial killer to the ARTEMIS project, from the good guys to the bad guys, so much to unpack and yet....this is only book one (I didn't know that - SO excited to keep Steven Konkoly on my list to watch). Highly recommend for those wanting something to keep you guessing as well as interested.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Steve Corona and really appreciated his tone and pacing as he brought you deep into the story. Also well done!
*I received a copy of this audiobook from NetGalley. This review is my own opinion*

This was a good book!
But, it left me hanging a bit, as I didn't realize that it was book #1...so there's more to come.

We start with multiple teams and characters. FBI, CIA, etc, etc...and then there are the bad guys...

When one of the teams start making progress and getting close, they are CALLED OFF!
Wait. What???

And so, things start to go off the rails...

But that is DEFINITELY not the end...

Lots of characters. Lots of murders. Lots of moving parts. But, overall, terrific book. Can't wait til the next one comes out!

Thanks to #NetGalley and #BrilliancePublishing for an ARC of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review. This is due out on shelves TODAY, 7/1/24.

#ACleanKill by #StevenKonkoly and narrated nicely by #SteveCorona.

I have conflicted feelings about this one. It was not what I expected at all. I assumed it was about an FBI team chasing a serial killer, but it really wasn't. The serial killer puts everything into motion, but he plays a small role. And his victims play no role whatsoever. It was far more political conspiracy than chasing a serial killer. Not something I enjoy nearly as much as a straight forward police procedural.

What I did like was Garrett Mann and his team. Enough that I may give book 2 a try, as long as it isn't about crazy government conspiracies.

Steve Corona narrates the audiobook. He used lots of accents and voices for the many characters.

I received an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this story! The 5 bags with 6 dismembered bodies started it off with a thrilling bang! It’s just what I was looking for!

Serial killer(s), but maybe it’s worse than that! A clue is found well into the hunt. It opens up more questions.

ARTEMIS is a great FBI team! I love the idea of these misfits!

Edge of your seat fun with a side of serial killer gore. Great descriptions, felt like I was there with my Vicks. Some pop culture you might catch. Compelled to finish in one sitting! I can’t wait for book two!

Thank you NetGalley & Brilliance Publishing, I’ve already looked into this author’s backlist. Yesss!

I love action movies but find it hard to get into action-heavy books. A Clean Kill is a book that has a lot of action and it filled the void I have been missing with books.

The story has multiple POVs and the main POV is of Special Agent Garret Mann. Mann is the head of a team called ARTEMIS which specializes in hunting down cartel-related killings.

ARTEMIS is hunting a serial killer starting in Minnesota and ending in New Mexico this was a fun ride with a lot of action. The action scenes were my favorite part of the book. I find it hard to read scenes with shootouts and other action movie tropes and visualize them. This book was great about the way these scenes played out making it so easy to visualize. I wish the writing was this consistent when it came to the plot.

I found the plot hard to follow with all the POVs and it not always being clear who we are currently following. Some slower scenes away from the action seemed to drag and set up a story for these series to jump off on but I just found myself losing focus. As a lead character, Mann was not bad but he also failed to fully pull me in and get me invested.

This book sets up a series and I will be here for the ride.

Another great read/listen from Steven Konkoly. Introduces new characters in a new series, and enjoyed all the characters. Well developed. Great action, plot, and pacing throughout. And the reading was excellent, and definitely wanted me to keep listening. Can't wait for the next book in this series.
