Passionate tale of the power of love!
In one of many similarities to the Beauty and the Beast tale, Anthony starts off as a truly despicable character. If you've read A Sure Duke, you know Anthony as the man whose father arranged for him to marry Alexandra, before she was able to extricate herself from that engagement. It's only when Anthony becomes so debauched that he even disgusts himself that he engages in a bit of self-examination and decides that he needs to make some changes.
Helia is not your typical take-charge heroine, though she does carry an inner strength that allows her to stand up to Anthony's worst side while still seeing his act for what it was. She truly brings out the best in him, and it's a glorious journey to see him gradually come to realize that.
I really enjoyed this charming romance, and highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys historical romances. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This story is fiery and hot. Helia is a great character as an eternal optimist with a fiery spirit. Anthony is the cold hearted Marquess challenging her at every turn. The dialogue in the story is exceptional as these two characters go at each other. The plot is intense as every detail unfolds. Christi Caldwell is an exemplary writer who infuses her work with heart and soul. Readers will once more transported to a world of romance and excitement. This is a story you will not want to miss.
I was hooked with the book right away, there was so much chemistry seeping through the pages and I knew I needed to keep reading.
I feel like it too way too long for Anthony to discover he has a heart, and it's not a frozen block of black coal. But man, he is not a pleasant person, to say the least. Helia deserved better. I think I'll stick with the author's lighter books.
A captivating, sensual and angst driven romance with an alpha hero and the innocent woman who breaks down all his defences. Anthony and Helia have an undeniable attraction from the start, he's quite the rude cad and thankfully redeemable... This built towards a satisfying happy ending.

Recently orphaned Helia Wallace has travelled to London to seek shelter with her godmother, the Duchess of Talbot to avoid her dowry-chasing cousin. The duke and duchess are wintering elsewhere, but their son The Marquis of Wingrave is in residence & doesn’t believe Helia’s story, then Helia becomes ill.
A well written interesting romance I loved the feisty Helia from the start but thoroughly disliked Wingrave, he was crude, dour & rude. I loved how Helia stood up to him & gradually whittled away at the ice walls around his heart. The chemistry between them sizzled, the banter was delicious, he fell in lust but then was so gentle & caring when Helia was ill. I loved their journey to a HEA, which made for an engrossing read

I love Christi Caldwell and the Wolf of Mayfair was the PERFECT hist-rom. I love when a big scary guy is actually a softy and is so into the FMC.
Scared and alone, Helia decides to go to her mother’s friend’s house in London’s. Instead of finding her mother’s friend, she finds her cold hearted rake of a son, Anthony, alone in the townhouse. Forced to stay the night due to a storm, she knows her reputation will be ruined. Attracted to each other, Anthony denies he even has feelings at all! I received an ARC from NetGalley and Montlake for my honest review.
I'm a huge fan of Christi Caldwell. But this book wasn't for me. I had a hard time getting into it. I started and stopped a number of times. I finally started to get into it and it seemed that it ended suddenly. .
I didn't like the main male character. I didn't feel any chemistry between the two. There was plenty of sex, just no chemistry.
Just not for me.

I want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book.
The wolf Mayfair usually doesn’t give a care about what anyone else wants especially when it involves an innocent but she is different. She doesn’t have anyone else to turn to and absolutely no one will look for her here.
AN interesting tale of a hard as stone rake and an innocent who wont give up. I found the book intriguing but hard to get into the first couple of chapters. I really did have to pull through because I wanted to know where it was going to end up. i found the main man rather a dissapointment at first. I could not believe he would stoop that low. The ending was, I suppose, was a happy ending. Alls well that ends well and all the jazz.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with guidelines.
Helia Wallace and Anthony, the Marquess of Wingrave fall in love in this very tightly plotted maybe-Regency romance. It's a two-hander mostly set in the home of the Duke and Duchess of Talbert, Anthony's parents. Anthony is dissolute and bitter, a rake of some reputation who I'm surprised doesn't have syphillis. Into his depraved world comes the gorgeous and innocent Scots lassie, Helia. Drama ensues as Helia claims her mother was a friend of the Duchess and Anthony doesn't believe her. It's a battle of wills between them. Helia is wise and gorgeous, Anthony is attractive but closed off.
This is a quick read, with plenty going on - drama, caretaking, jealously, attraction, meddling and mystery. All up, a satisfying read with a hard-earned happily ever after. Author Christi's work is new to me, and this is a refreshing take on a grumpy/sunshine - it doesn't take Anthony long to realise he has met his match. The language is confusing though as it bounces between vocabulary of the time - puling emotions, gelidity, illimitable, whispering sough - and modern Americanisms. If you like your historical romances with a feisty heroine and a hero at her feet, this is perfect!
Thank you Christi Caldwell, Montlake and NetGalley for the ARC. Opinions are my own.
(3.5 Stars) MIss Helia Wallace is trying to escape her atrocious cousin who inherited her father’s title and wants to marry her for her fortune. She seeks aid from her mothers friend, the Duchess of Talbert, but finds the Marquess of Wingrave in residence. Anthony unexpectedly inherited after the death of his brother and was recently left at the altar. He is grumpy on steroids and isn’t sure he wants to even let her inside. He is very much an alpha male and honestly was very off putting in the beginning.
I liked Helia and the bit of Scottish spunk that makes her stand up to Tony. There is plenty of heat in the story between the pair but I may have wished for a few more conversations. For me, Tony was a little too haughty. Yes, there are reasons for his grumpiness and I appreciate Helia’s empathy for him. But I want my hero’s to bend a bit too.
This is seemingly a stand alone novel. I’ve only read this author once before but she has many books.
Rating: 4.5 Stars - Alright, let's get this straight: I adored this book, even though I spent a good chunk of it wanting to shake some sense into the hero and cheer for the heroine to just ditch him already. But hey, it's a romance novel, so I held out for that inevitable 'happily ever after'—and boy, did the author deliver when Anthony had that "AHA moment!" moment. It's a riveting historical romance that stitches together a quilt of suspense, fiery passion, and a dash of redemption. Picture this: Regency era, our girl Helia Wallace, freshly orphaned, dodges a cousin who's more interested in her dowry than her well-being. She hightails it from Scotland to London, only to be greeted not by her godmother but by her son, the brooding Anthony, the Marquess of Wingrave, a.k.a. "The Wolf," notorious for womanizing and breaking hearts across the land.
This author spins a yarn where Helia's fresh-faced resolve meets the Marquess's gruff, crude and tumble exterior head-on. Sparks fly, and their path from mutual side-eye to swoon-worthy love is as touching as it is fiery. The cast keeps you on your toes with snappy banter, laugh-out-loud antics, a sprinkle of peril, and yes, some blush-worthy encounters. It's a treat for anyone who fancies a good old-fashioned love story with a side of sass. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This historical romance is a captivating blend of suspense, passion, and redemption set in the Regency era. The story follows Helia Wallace, a recently orphaned young woman fleeing a greedy cousin and arriving in London, only to meet Anthony, the Marquess of Wingrave, known as “The Wolf” for his heartless ways. Despite Anthony’s brooding and rough demeanor, sparks fly between him and Helia, leading to a fiery romance. The book is filled with witty banter, humor, danger, and steamy moments. The reviewer loved the story, especially when Anthony’s character evolves, making the eventual happy ending all the more satisfying.
I was thrilled to dive into The Wolf of Mayfair by Christi Caldwell, and this book didn’t disappoint. The premise instantly hooked me—a young woman fleeing a dowry-chasing cousin only to be stranded in a snowstorm at the mercy of a notorious rake with undeniable big bad wolf energy. The tension was great, making every interaction between Helia and Anthony kept me hooked on their story.
Caldwell delivers some steamy scenes, though I personally would have loved more descriptive spice. But that’s just the smut lover in me talking! I particularly enjoyed the dynamic between the grumpy, morally grey Anthony and the virginal, sunshine-Helia—it reminded me of my favorite couple from Poldark (Ross and Esmerelda). The “mine” dialogue and the classic "touch her and die" moments had me squealing with delight!
If you’re into bad-boy heroes with a gruff exterior who soften for their damsel in distress, this one’s for you. The chemistry between the characters and the unfolding drama kept me glued until the last page. It was a fun, enjoyable read that I’d definitely recommend to fans of historical romances.
This is a wonderfully, intense story.
Helia is trying to escape from her relative who inherited her father's title and estate and wants to marry her. She shows up at Lord Wingrave's estate claiming her mother and his were friends. He lets her stay during the storm.
To say that Lord Wingrave was rude, crass and vulgar is an understatement.
The steam level is hot, and the storyline was captivating and interesting.
The only problem I found was the relationship between Helia's mother and Lord Wingrave's was never explained.
I highly recommend this book if you like steamy reads and alpha heroes.
This book was very good, but slow to start. Mostly because Anthony was not a nice man. He was grumpy and mean spirited. Helia came to this residence as she thought his mother (the Duchess) would protect her from her cousin when her parents died. He was trying to force her to marry him and she wasn't having it. Anthony did not want her to stay, but she talked him into it due to a storm that hit right when she came. When she got sick, he was determined that she not die and kicked out all the doctors. It was an interesting contrast as he was almost cruel to most people but insisted on caring for her. She certainly liked what he did to her body, but had trouble when he was mean after.
Helia saw the good in him and thought at times he cared for her before he shut it down. It was good that she was strong willed as it was needed to deal with him and his father (who was really not a nice man). The last couple chapters were great as all the pieces fell into place
It was a good story that was well worth reading
I got this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review
This was a nice read, on par to many of Christi's books, but unfortunately, it wasn't as great as many of her other works.
The dialogue felt stilted in more than one scene, the story itself felt extremely rushed and I didn't feel the chemistry between the characters. It seemed like they didn't have enough time to develop any true feelings.
All in all, it was a nice and quick read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this book, I do, but I disliked the mmc. The book would have been perfect for me if not for him. The guy was an asshole in the beginning of the book, and I didn't like his intention towards the FMC. Yes, he went through a lot as a kid, but that's no excuse for his extremely bad behavior. But, he had some character development, so I'll give him that.

Now, my favorite part of the book, the FMC, Helia. I really liked her. She was smart, kind, and witty. The mmc didn't deserve her, really. She ran away from home from her odious cousin after the death of her parents. She was amazing.

The book got better when the guy's character development began, and I liked it. Unfortunately, I still couldn't forget my first impression of him.

I liked most part of the book and you could too.
Steamy and passionate tale. She is aptly named as she draws him out of his world of darkness and surrounds in love and laughter, even while he struggles to maintain the status quo.. What hero can resist a fiercely feisty and courageous woman who brings the sun with her!
