The Caller is the third book in Juliet Marillier’s Shadowfell trilogy and oh my goodness I was NERVOUS for it. You know how sometimes you can go a really long time between books in a series that when you finally do get back into the series you end up disappointed because it has been so long? That was absolutely not the case for me with The Caller. Instead, I found myself really appreciating the dive back into the magical world Marillier created, even though it had been years since I was in the world, so to speak.

The Caller is a wonderfully written book that wraps up Neryn’s story along with that of Flint. We see the final confrontation between the Rebellion and Keldec as well as Neryn’s meeting her last Guardian. And well, everything comes together so well in the battle for control of Albion. I absolutely enjoyed this book even though I had a bit of a tough time recalling what happened in the previous books. As it turns out, when you read something by Marillier, you are in superb hands.

You absolutely must pick up the Shadowfell trilogy of books if you’re looking for a completed series starring a young woman who grows as a character, strong world building, magic, and the politics of rebellion. Oh and of course, that touch of romance that infuses the series. I felt like the final book really holds up and am just so impressed with this book. I can’t wait to get back into more of Marillier’s books and pick up her Blackthorn & Grimm series as well as Harp Of Kings.
