I didn't like Song of the Fireflies . It was well written and J.A. Redmerski is an amazing author and person, but this book wasn't for me. It's not the kind of book that I would tell everyone to avoid, it's just the kind of book that didn't click with me personally.
I've been trying to go back to my older books in my Netgalley TBR and my reading preferences have changed so much that I couldn't make it very far in this one. Just wasn't quite working out for me. At this time, I'm no longer interested in this title. Thank you for the opportunity to read the book and I apologize for the inconvenience.
Redmerski is one of my favorite authors who I always feel like can do no wrong. She wrote my favorite contemporary romance, The Edge of Never, and my favorite romantic suspense series, In The Company of Killers. So I was very keen to read this story. And wow, I was not expected this to be as emotional as it was. Bray and Elias are childhood friends who grew up together and relied on each other. Bray did not have the best upbringing and Elias was fiercely protective of her. As they grow up, an unexpected event sends them on a road trip and that’s where the drama and the relationship really heat up. I was invested in their emotional journey so much and really wanted nothing more than for these characters to have their happily ever after. This is a perfect book for anyone who enjoys New Adult romances that have an incredible emotional journeys for the characters
Heart. Wrenching. J.A. Redmerski tells the best heart wrenching stories. Song of the Fireflies follows Bray and Elias, Bray suffers from a traumatizing past and is seeking love and comfort. Their friendship evolves and they become lovers. I DNF this book, but the writing was great!
I requested this book back in 2014 and had every intention of reading it then. But now looking at the synopsis I realize that I was a very different reader back in 2014 and this just isn't a story that appeals to me now. Maybe one day in the future I'll be drawn to this story again but for now I'm just going to call it and remove it from my netgalley review queue.
I love J.A.Redmerski and as always her writing is so good and so easy to get lost into, but I did not understand or connect to Bray. Loved Elias though.
I won't be reviewing this title because I no longer have an interest in this book.
