I didn't realize this was a sequel but I don't think it mattered much. I typically enjoy small town books and I love animals. It's a funny and entertaining read, especially for dog lovers.

Dr. Cyrus Mills is a Veterinarian Pathologist. When his father dies, he left his practice, Bedside Manner in Eden Falls, Vermont to Cyrus. His first patient is an almost comatose mastiff. The owner said it was from chocolate, but Cyrus knows better. She ate marijuana brownies and is high. There is competition in the small town with Healthy Paws a national veterinary chain. One his first house call, he meets a girl named Charlie Brown. What he doesn’t know is her mother is Dr. Honey, a veterinarian that works for Healthy Paws.
This is the second book in the Cyrus Mills/Bedside Manner series. The story has a steady pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in first person point of view. What a cute story. Dr. Mills is a good guy and really wants a second chance with Amy. I like the accuracy of the writing. The author is obviously knowledgeable of the subject. If you like animals and books like Marley and Me or the Mace Reid K-9 series, you will enjoy this book.
A fun read! I love this series.
Many thanks to Hachette Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I read this book without reading the first one in the series and felt I didn't miss anything. Trout brings the reader up to speed on Dr. Mills' situation in bits and pieces without slowing the pace of the story.
Charming is the perfect word to sum up the novel. The small town setting is charming and so is the romance. I mean, how can you not smile when you hear the name "The Bedside Manor for Sick Animals"?
The author is a veterinarian so you know he'll get the medical details of the patients right. This would be a great summer vacation read for someone who likes animals.

This was quite an engaging book, with a wee resemblance to Dr. Martin only for animals instead of people. Now I want to read the Patron Saint of Dogs.
Let me start by saying I am a huge dog lover so I knew I would most assuredly be loving this story and boy I sure did! Cyrus was not a likable character for me to begin with but something changed in him during the story and it was a wonderful thing to experience along with him.
I have since lost interest in this title. At the time, I had read a few books with animals as part of the main cast and thought I would continue with this appreciation, but it seems my tastes have changed and I don't believe that I'll be getting to this anytime soon. No negative things to say... just no longer interested.
I read Tell Me Where It Hurts by this author and loved it! This book was a fantastic read I would highly recommend it.
I'm so sorry I waited so long to read this book!! I really loved it!! A vet returns to his small town in Vermont to take over his father's practice and finds himself falling in love and battling the chain pet store/vet clinic that's popped up in the neighboring town. Reminiscent of James Herriott's books and a little like the movie "Doc Hollywood", its filled with quirky characters and missteps/misunderstandings that will have you smiling. A sweet, light book that's sure to warm your heart.
I thank NetGalley, Hachette Books and Nick Trout for providing me with a copy of Dog Gone, Back Soon in exchange for an honest review. The book description is what attracted me to request it. I started the book, but never got into the story and did not finish it. I will not be able to provide a review of this book.
I am not sure what I expected, but I know that it wasn't the second book in a series.
What a fun read! I'm a sucker for animal books combined with vets. I plowed through all of the James Herriot books as fast as they were published. Also have loved several of Bruce Cameron's books so this seemed perfect for me. It certainly didn't disappoint. Its heartwarming and funny and just a really fun read. I didn't realize it was #2 in a series until I had finished it. Now I'm looking for #1. I got it as a e-book advance copy from Netgalley (thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!) and ended up buying it for myself.
I enjoyed this charming story. I read James Herriot's books long ago, and loved them. These books (this one being a sequel to "The Patron Saint of Lost Dogs") are a bit reminiscent of Herriot's books, but Trout's books are fiction. There's a great air of authenticity to them, though, since Trout is a veterinarian himself. At times there's a bit more technical info than the average person may be able to digest, but when you consider the vet in these books is a veterinary pathologist who tends to "get in his head" much of the time, that's very much in character for him. I enjoyed watching him coming to terms with his father's legacy, and learning how to deal with actual live animals rather than making diagnoses strictly from slides.
I’m sorry now it took me so long to getting around to reading these books - I’d received an ARC of this one but wanted to read the previous book first, and kept postponing it for some reason. Now I want to read Nick Trout’s other books, which are non-fiction.

This book was possibly the cutest book I've read in a long while. I had a lot of fun reading it and will recommend it to everyone I know.
My feedback comments have gone missing! I reviewed this title previously yet it still appears in my list, "GIVE REVIEWS"
Dr. Cyrus Mills is a veterinary pathologist who has returned home due to his father's death. He has inherited his father's vet practice. He discovers he has competition from a new vet practice opening. It won't stop him from practicing as he has help. Who are they? Why are they helping him? Dr. mills goes out on a date with Amy that turns out to be a disaster with her. What happened? Will they go on another date? Meanwhile he continues his veterinarians practice.
This is a darling novel. The author knows his understanding of animal illnesses. It is a heartwarming novel that ends with optimism. He writes a novel that takes place in a small town. In this town's community, he has created the perfect characters for this story. I am so glad that I hiya to read this story.
