Knowing the book was a spin off of another series I haven’t read I was a little nervous I’d be lost but after getting through the first chapter or two I felt caught up on what I needed to know!

Jess and Blake had a previous hook up and as much as Jess hates to admit it they’re both attracted to each other and can’t help thinking of their one time together whenever they’re around each other. Jess feels like a disappointment to her family and wants to work hard and focus on her new career goal and education but Blake keeps pushing his way through her walls which eventually she can’t help but break for him.

Blake reminds me of the dumb jock in movies. It’s not a bad thing cause he’s funny and sweet, it refreshing cause usually the dumb jock all the girls love but the story isn’t about him so we don’t see his happily ever after. Even through Blake’s goofiness, he is the most caring and loyal man. Jess has a many struggles she’s facing but he doesn’t just fix them for her he’s there to lean on and be support while she grows comfortable and learns to overcome her doubts.

The pair are total opposites but their relationship is just what they each need. Jess needs someone to point out her strengths when she’s feeling weak or make her laugh when she’s sad or stressed. Blake needs someone to keep him focused but also love him and encourage him to be able to express his emotions even when he’s sad or angry.

I love how Jessica’s nursing education is written. She isn’t the top student and struggles with her classes but still shows that she’s still a good nurse through her empathy and care for patients.

Overall this was a great story with some laughs and some spice!

Laughs everywhere in this pucking fun read of somewhat opposites who both find out what they want and what they need is hiding in plain sight. Great cast of characters, solid story with real feels and plenty of steam. Top notch hockey romance, definitely recommended.

I found the MMC kind of insufferable… but obviously I still read the book so maybe this one is on me. I did appreciate that there wasn’t a painful 3rd act beak-up to deal with and the families were quite charming. If you’re looking for a light fun hockey romance, this isn’t a bad choice, but I stand by the idea that there are better options out there.

3 stars

If being the family disappointment wasn’t stressful enough toss in a career change and planing her brothers wedding, the best man is the icing on the cake.

This was my first book by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy! Let me tell you Blake can be really obnoxious at times but he also knows what he wants and that’s Jess! The Riley family is a productive bunch and they’re a blast! There are parts of this book that will put a smile on your face and let out a giggle. It’s a fun book! And will be on the lookout for the second!

Entertaining, prominent characters. This was a good book! I don't think I'll remember it always, but it worked for me at the moment. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Jess is a wedding planner and has her most important wedding to plan ahead of her — her baby brother’s! Not only does she want to provide the best night ever, but she also wants to show her family that she is GOOD at this, even if she is changing her career.
Enter: Blake. In her own words, “As if this wedding wasn’t stressful enough, I have to cope with the loudest, brashest, most annoying man I’ve ever met in my life.”
Blake and Jess had a one-night stand months earlier, a fact that Jess is desperate to forget, but Blake is not likely to let her forget.

I read Good Boy in ONE day; ate it up like candy. The writing style of this novel was fantastic. I've read a few Elle Kennedy novels before but nothing by Sarina Bowen, and I have to say I'm now a fan! The pacing was perfect, the plot was fun, and it was super funny. It wasn't all fun and games though -- it had emotional aspects that sold this for me. Since it's a sports romance it was a little predictable, but I was surprised by a few things. (No spoilers here!) As a Canadian girly, I was pleasantly surprised that it was focused in Toronto and that the authors seemed to know about life there. It was refreshing!

The characters were engaging and I sympathized with their struggles. With Jess up to her eyeballs in debt, moving to a new place to go to college, and struggling with a career change, she couldn't be more relatable. Yet even through her struggles, she is not annoying, condescending, or a pick-me, which was refreshing in a female lead.
Blake provided a lot of humour throughout the novel, and I found myself chuckling along to his shenanigans. Like a dog who will “lick your face and hump your leg”, Blake was eager, unserious, and sexual, but he was more than that. Throughout his POV we find he is very considerate, a self-described pacifist, funny as hell, and very good at hiding his feelings.
Throughout the novel we were introduced to other characters who were equally fun and believable. I really liked their friends and family, particularly Jess' roommate Violet, her friend Dyson, and Mama Riley. This is a spinoff that includes Wes and Jamie, but you don't need to read the previous novels to be fully immersed in the story.

Overall I loved this story, and really enjoyed reading it. It had everything I was looking for in a light read. 4.5/5 stars for me.
I would recommend it to anyone who loves: hockey romance, witty dialogue, Elle Kennedy or Kendall Ryan.

I’m a fan of Elle Kennedy so I was excited to read this book. Initially the MMC drove me nuts- but he did grow on me. The book is fairly short, so it’s a quick read. Overall, I enjoyed it. I did feel like it sort of ended abruptly, though. If you like Elle Kennedy’s other books, give it a read.

You know, this one just kind of missed the mark for me.

I did enjoy the MMC’s banter a bit, but after a while his weird lingo/ the jargon he kept spewing became very annoying. I did like that he was lovable and determined, but at times I wondered why he was chasing after the FMC because she was plain rude to him.

That leads me to our FMC. I really disliked her. She was mean to the MMC simply because she regretted sleeping with him. This continues for 40% of the book, then they start sleeping together again, and BAM she is instantly in love with him. I just didn’t find it believable.

To me the chemistry was lacking. I felt like they were only good together in bed.

I did give this book 3 stars because it kept my attention (read it in a day), had characters from another book I loved (Jamie and Wes), and had an overall good idea for a plot. I just thought the characters and chemistry could have been built up for. And not physical chemistry, but emotional and situational.

What a delightful follow up start to the spinoff of the “Him” universe! The magic duo behind “Wesime” brings us a delightful story of two of the background characters, Blake and Jess!

Jess is so relatable! She doesn’t know what she wants her path to be and keeps trying to find it, while struggling to accept the help that she has. She found a new path, which brings her to Toronto where her brother and brother in law live, alongside her brother in laws teammate, Blake Riley.

Blake is such a golden retriever of a man. He gives and gives to the point where he sometimes forgets himself. The way that he cares for Jess, is magical.

Overall, this was a fun extension of the Him universe, and I can’t wait for the traditional rerelease!

Thanks to Elle Kennedy, Sarina Bowen, Bloom Books, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

This book was really promising until Blake Riley was introduced. I made it about 20 pages past that before putting the book down. Seriously major major major ick. Even if he’s a softie deep down he came off like a major frat douche. There are ways to have characters come off douchey without being this gross. I just couldn’t. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC.

I love Sarina Bowen and I think this is one of the best banter-tactic things she’s ever written. I love the Him/Us world and you should too.

I loved this book back in 2019! Didn’t realise it was the same one. The banter and chemistry is amazing in this one! Loved the MMC!

I’m a huge fan of M/M Hockey Romance, so when I saw this book was connected to Him by Sarina Bowen, one of my favorites, I had to read it. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I’m hooked on this series now 🙌

I adore big broody guys who are secretly soft and sweet, and this book nails the reverse Grumpy-Sunshine trope. The chemistry between the characters is off the charts, and their banter is hilarious and sexy 😍

I also love stories where one of the characters feels broken, and the other one helps them heal and grow by being supportive and loving. This book delivers that beautifully 💕

This slow burn is funny, romantic and just fantastic. I gave it four stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ and five hearts ❤❤❤❤❤ for its romance, and two chilli peppers 🌶🌶 for its spiciness. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

The best part is that I finished it last night and today I found the actual book at a second hand book market. It was fate 😊
