Another great Theo Baxter novel. Fantastic characters. Either love them or love to hate them guaranteed. This book was a whirlwind beginning to end. I had no idea who to trust. And until I closed the book I still wasn’t sure. Packed with tense manipulation, lots of lies and a bucket of OMGs.
Thank you NetGalley and Theo Baxter for the opportunity to read and review this book
This was my first NetGalley book!
Although I was intrigued by the book's description, I found it difficult to finish. While the plot had potential, the writing style and lack of depth left me underwhelmed.
The story revolves around Chris, Kara, and Perry, with other characters playing very minor roles. Perry is a neurodivergent, successful artist. His wife, Kara, is 30 to 40 years younger than him. Chris is an unemployed, unlicensed psychiatric nurse who becomes Perry's in-home caretaker. The plot thickens when Kara seduces Chris and later tries to convince him to overdose Perry, aiming to gain access to his money, which she cannot obtain through divorce due to a prenuptial agreement.
Unfortunately, the story contains only one twist, which is quite predictable. I wouldn’t recommend this book to my audience.
When Chris is offered a job by millionaire Perry Bryant to be his "personal mental health caretaker," he also becomes enamored with Perry's wife, Kara. As their feelings grow, Kara suggests they kill Perry. Will Chris go through with it for love?
Having enjoyed Theo Baxter's previous books, I was excited to read this one. While the story began slowly and Chris seemed easily manipulated by Kara, I was drawn in as the plot developed. The surprising twist at the end made it a satisfying read that I ended up loving!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of The Honey Trap. Great story of a young rich wife that wants to be a young rich widow and what she will do and who she will manipulate to get what she wants.
I devoured this book in one sitting....wow loved tge plans, the manipulation, the outcome. Bravo couldn't have asked for anything better. Best book I've read in awhile.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an early release of this book.
Chris is moving on from his difficult past when he has a chance encounter with Perry. Perry is having a panic attack by the side of the road, and Chris stops go help him. Using his skills as a mental health nurse, Chris is able to calm him and take him home. Chris has no idea that this is the beginning of his life being turned upside down.
Kara, Perry's young, beautiful wife, is everything Chris has ever wanted. So when he takes a job working with Perry, he's easily seduced by her charms. Kara wants Chris to kill her husband, but will he do as she asks?
This was a fast paced, excellent thriller. It's my first by Theo Baxter and I was pleasantly surprised. It has a great twist, that I had an idea was coming, but I enjoyed it none the less. Overall a fantastic read.
Thank you to Inkubator Books and Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Loved every single thing about this book. The author captures a creepy plot, fantastic character building and enough suspense in the whole book to leave you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommend.
Great book!! It had me clinging to my kindle! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting! I highly recommend reading this one! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Chris is living a destitute life after losing his job.
He meets Perry quite by chance, while Perry is having a panic attack, and takes Perry home.
Perry offers Chris a job, and Chris accepts.
Perry's wife, Kara, takes a liking to Chris and they start having an affair.
Then she asks Chris to help kill Perry.
This is the third book I have read by Theo Baxter, and the only one so far that I have predicted the twist when I was half way through.
Having said that, I did enjoy the book, even though there were no massive twists in this psychological thriller.
Thanks to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the opportunity to read this book.
Thanks to NetGalley for this arc. Overall I really enjoyed this but sometimes there were slow parts and really fast parts. There’s third person pov, I would have preferred first person because that would have been a better way to tell this story. In the beginning of the book Chris and Perry meet and Perry offers Chris a position being Perry’s live-in therapist. Chris meets Perry’s wife, Kara and boy she’s a bombshell and Chris really fancies her and she flirts with him too. Kara knows what she wants and she wants to live a lavish lifestyle that’s the only reason she’s with her millionaire husband Perry but she has no love for him. I really like the characters Chris and Kara just their vibe and the way they are together though, Kara is straight up manipulative and very quickly Chris and Kara soon get into an affair. During this affair Kara tries to persuade Chris to do something he never thought just to keep her happy. So many twists and turns. Dramatic and fast paced for sure. The Honey Trap was definitely Kara oh man she was probably my favourite.
The Honey Trap by Theo Baxter
Rating: 4/5

Kara is resolute in her desire—to become a widow.
To Chris Abrams, Kara Bryant embodies everything he desires: passion, beauty, intelligence. Yet, she's married to his boss.
When millionaire Perry Bryant offers psychologist Chris a role in his healthcare team, it appears to be the perfect opportunity for Chris to leave behind his past mistakes and begin anew.
But then he encounters Perry's wife, Kara, who leaves him breathless. It soon becomes evident that she desires him as intensely as he desires her, and more—much more.
In fact, Kara wants everything.
She proposes a sinister request: to assist her in her husband's demise. Despite his reservations, Chris finds himself succumbing to Kara's allure, prompting him to question everything—his friendship with Perry, his sense of loyalty, and even his own moral compass.
As a newcomer to Theo Baxter's work, I found myself pleasantly surprised. While the novel initially took its time to build momentum, I entertained the thought of setting it aside for later. However, I'm glad I stuck with it.
The characters were finely crafted, and the plot unfolded smoothly. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more from this author in the future. Overall, a well-written story with a solid and engaging plot.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Inkubator Books and the author, Theo Baxter, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.
Thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of The Honey Trap by Theo Baxter due to be published June 30, 2024.
Chris has a chance encounter with millionaire Perry Bryant and Perry offers Chris a job being his “personal mental health caretaker”. It’s a perfect job with one distraction – Perry’s beautiful wife, Kara. Soon they develop feelings for one another, and Kara soon has a small suggestion – kill Perry for her. Will he do it for love?
I had previously read Not My Mother and The Lake House by Theo Baxter and thoroughly enjoyed them, so I was thrilled to get this book!
It started out slowly, and then I almost didn’t finish the book. Christ was such a sucker and so easily manipulated by Kara, it was laughable. As I read on, I was hooked and wanted to see how it ended, and it did not disappoint! The twist at the end was a complete surprise, and I ended up loving this book!
