An opposites-attract, forced proximity, only one bed, revenge romantic comedy. Allie is about to get her revenge. It’s been twelve years coming, but she’s finally going to defeat the ex who stole her research then dumped her. She’s in a race against him to finish the same big project, and there can only be one winner. All she needs is a few more weeks of working around the clock, and victory will be hers. So when her boss announces she’s being pulled off the project to mentor a Hollywood A-lister who’s preparing for an upcoming movie role, Allie is devastated. She doesn’t care that it’s People’s Sexiest Man, Hudson Finch. Allie refuses to let him get in her way, even if Hudson is the most distracting (and delicious-smelling) man on the planet. But between the close confines of her tiny office and a night stranded together in a secluded mountain cabin, her feelings for Hudson turn into something she never could’ve predicted. She may be falling hard for him, but can Allie really find her happily ever after in his muscley arms?
This was a fun rom-com that I was able to finish in one day. It is book two in the series, but can be read as a standalone. It does a really good job of explaining science and is set in a great teaching environment.
Thanks to NetGalley and Indigo Group for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a quick and enjoyable read. I did not enjoy this book as much as the first in the series as I wanted more depth to the characters, and the situation resolved a little too easily.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
I found the story of Allie and Hudson to be so sweet! I enjoyed every minute of this book! It was well-balanced, and the story flowed well. I appreciated how it was deep and emotional while remaining lighthearted. Hudson and Allie made such a cute couple, and despite their obvious differences, they worked well together.
I loved reading this book! I hadn't read the first book, but that didn't matter in this case. I fell in love with Allie and Hudson's characters as well as their relationship together! Hudson is so amazing, and I think I can speak for everyone when I say we all want a Hudson in our lives. I'm rating the book a 4 out of 5 stars, and the one star that I took away was because of the drama/third-act breakup. I always love a good third-act breakup because I love drama and I'm a sucker for groveling, but something about this one really didn't sit well with me. The way that Allie just blew up on Hudson over something so small was a little frustrating. Also, the whole miscommunication thing is frustrating, but it is also such a big trope in many rom-com books, so I can accept it. Overall, this book was so cute and I loved getting to read about Allie, Hudson, and their relationship! There was a little spice, but it was a pretty lighthearted and sweet book in my opinion. This was the first Melanie Summers book that I have read, and I will definitely be reading more!
Loved this one! Great and fun read. Highly recommend.
Many thanks to the publisher, Netgalley, and the author for my ARC.
This was my first time reading a Melanie Summers book, and I am already looking forward to going back and reading the first in this interconnected series! Love Signals revolves around Allie, a smart and independent career woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with the charismatic Hollywood star, Hudson.
Allie's character is a standout in the narrative, embodying a perfect blend of strength and vulnerability. Her determination to pursue her dreams while navigating the allure of Hudson's charm makes her a relatable and engaging protagonist. The author portrays her struggles and triumphs with authenticity, drawing readers into her journey of self-discovery and personal growth.
Hudson, on the other hand, is not just a typical Hollywood heartthrob. His character development is richly layered, as he evolves from a seemingly untouchable star to someone willing to share his vulnerabilities with Allie. His genuine care and support for Allie's ambitions, expressed through thoughtful gestures like providing her time and nourishment for her projects, add depth to their relationship and highlight his journey towards emotional openness.
The chemistry between Allie and Hudson is THICK, driving the story forward with moments of passion, humor, and heartfelt connection. Their relationship is portrayed with sensitivity and depth, capturing the complexities of falling in love amidst the pressures of fame and personal insecurities.
What makes "Love Signals" particularly captivating is its exploration of fame, identity, and the courage to embrace one's true self.
Allie and Hudson are amazing main characters. If the author Melanie is not an Adam Driver rat and/or Reylo I would be shocked. But anyway, Allie is your super smart brainiac astrophysicist who happens to be stuck with Hudson. Hudson is the lead actor being told he needs to change his persona in movies because being the lead funny guy isn’t working anymore. So while shadowing Allie and her coworkers all kinds of fun things happen that lead to their happily ever after. I totally recommend this book for anyone who loves the STEM romance troupe.
Thank you NetGalley, Indigo Group and Melanie Summers for picking me to be an arc reader of this book.
3.75⭐️ this was a fun read !!! Allegra's family gave me "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" vibes and I laughed so much . Hudson is definitely "tomato paste " and there isn't a single one doubt about it !! I loved the way Melissa summers debunk all the taboos about dyslexia and women in science!! It was exactly what a reader expects from a rom com 👏 ❤️
Thank you NetGalley for the Arc in exchange for my honest opinion!! ❤️
A cute woman in STEM read without all the spice Ali Hazelwood has in her stories. Cute banter, lovely characters and a precious love story.
3.5 stars rounded up.
Thanks to netgalley, the author and publisher for an E-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.
I (unfortunately) was not a big fan of this one! It took me a while to get through, and I didn't particularly enjoy the characters. The plot was what initially attracted me, but I found that the celebrity bit with Hudson just... felt weird to me execution-wise. I can't particularly pin down why, I just didn't like it. Didn't work for me :/
Love Signals is a cheesy, feel-good romantic comedy novel that had me grinning from ear to ear the entire time. I stayed up late and woke up early to finish this. After reading The Space Between Us and Love Signals through June, I am convinced Melanie Summers writes the most lovable characters. I found myself wanting to spend all my time with Allie and Hudson (as much as one can with a 300-400 page book, anyway).
“I’m Allegra Cammareri, nerd, scientist, loving daughter, and pushover auntie. I’m not some sexy sex goddess who men like Hudson Finch fall for.”
Allegra is an astronomer dedicated to teaching an AI Robot, Frank, to identify unidentifiable objects in space to potentially help discover extraterrestrial activity in the universe in the future. Hudson is a celebrity aging out of the “sexy” roles to serious roles and must convince the world he is the next Leonardo DiCaprio (Think Titantic to Killers of the Flower Moon). Hudson’s agency decides the best method for convinving fans that he is a genius is for Hudson to shadow an astronomer, Dr. Allegra Cammareri (Allie). The timing is inconvenient for Allie. She is spending every waking minute, attempting to prove to her boss that Frank is capable of identifying unidentifiable objects before an upcoming conference arrives. Otherwise, her weasel coworker, Chad, insert eye roll, gets the credit for, lets be real, less impressive work.
Honestly, Chad is alright. We just want our girl, Allie, to get some recognition for her hard work and dedication to SETI research.
Hudson is a teddy bear and Allie is unable to resist his charm. I adored the way Hudson supported her during the late nights of programming Frank. Her overbearing Italian family was hilarious and their love for Allie was undeniable. It’s worth mentioning the italian food and drink described in Love Signals was chef’s kiss. I’ll need to have my own glass of wine this weekend in honor of this read.
My favorite part of this Braniacs in Love series is the admiration for nerdy, awkward, and dedicated STEM characters. My own nerdy heart is full.
Thank you Xpresso Tours, Melanie Summers and Indigo Group for this ARC copy of Love Signals in exchange for an honest review.
Dr. Allie Cammareri, brilliant but unlucky in love, must prepare actor Hudson Finch for a role as her institute's founder. Allie aims to complete her groundbreaking project solo, but unexpectedly falls for Hudson, Hollywood's heartthrob with hidden dyslexia and self-doubt. Their journey is filled with funny, sweet moments as they overcome their past issues. Allie’s large, opinionated Italian family adds humor and complications. Hudson’s handsome image hides his self-doubt, but his genuine caring nature emerges, deepening their connection.
There's something just so joyful and entertaining about Melanie Summers' books. I've read and loved quite a few now and Love Signals is no exception. I have to admit that this is only the second science romance that I've read, (the first being book on in this series - The Space Between Us) although I'm sure that there are more in this genre.
This book tells the story of Hollywood star Hudson and scientist Allie. Allie has been let down in the past and is doing her best to protect her heart from the charming actor. As for Hudon, he is trying to save his career and hadn't given a thought to romance before now.
This was a great read. The romance between the two is great. Add in the crazy members of Allie's family (is Hudson Pepper or tomato paste??) and the medical incident he has to enjoy and it's a highly entertaining read. I think that one of the things that really make Melanie Summers' books are the little snippets of info that you discover. In other books I've learnt about bonobos, alien hunting and now what certain spiders cause. Nothing really to do with the story, but just add to the richness of it all. Fantastic.
Looking for an entertaining read that really stands out from the crowd? Then you won't go far wrong here.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
Love Signals follows Allie, a radio astronomer, as she races against time and her professional nemesis, who happens to be her ex-boyfriend, to make a groundbreaking scientific advancement. What she didn't schedule for was having to babysit an actor working on his next role. Over the six weeks of job shadowing Allie and Hudson's relationship develops into something neither of them were anticipating.
If you like Ali Hazelwood, you'll like this book. The science to romance ratio is perfect and the main characters are well developed, believable, and likeable. My only critiques are that the 3rd act conflict is a little silly and a little drawn out and every so often the voice of the main characters shifts into something weird and unlike themselves.
Allie Cammaeri is a scientist who has been working on a project for the last twelve years she is also still trying to get over the guy who stole her work years ago and passed it off as his own. Now wanting to go to a conference and show her work instead she is assigned to have a Hollywood actor follow her around for a role he is doing about a scientist. Hudson Finch is working at saving his career but knows that Allie does not want to be saddled with him he does work at getting on her good side. There are many funny moments, with him getting bit by a spider from the fruit basket he bought her, and then when he showed up at her family's house on Sunday while they were making dinner just to name a few. I found this to be a good book with wonderful characters as well.
Thank you, Netgalley, for sharing this arc with me. I give it 4 stars. The storyline is cute but slow-paced until the middle. The main characters stand out, and their chemistry is excellent. The author effectively portrays the stress they face in their careers. However, the media segments feel forced and repetitive. I understand why the author included them but it unfortunately got annoying. If you love rom com and a cute story this one is great for that.
What a cute book! A total cinnamon roll MMC with a secret is forced to go learn about astrophysics for an upcoming movie role and falls for his genius mentor.
Hudson is genuinely a good guy who has created a persona to hide a secret about himself that he truly has nothing to be ashamed about except his parents made it feel shameful since he was little.
Allie is an astrophysicist who is coming off of a 12 year revenge bender to prove to an ex that she is worthy, and does good work, and is trying to work furiously to get the recognition she deserves for her new discovery.
They’re both likable characters. Allie’s family is enjoyable to read. The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars is that when everything comes up light is Allie hold the sins of previous men against Hudson and blows what he did way out of proportion. In part because she doesn’t understand her own self-worth, but I was annoyed with Allie for a couple of chapters during their third act breakup.
Other than that it was a fun read. Very Ali Hazelwood but outside of university academia. And now I have to go find the first in the series to read!
This may just be me, but I am such a sucker for this trope.
I love when a famous person comes into town and mixes with the locals and the crazy situations that happen throughout their love story. I am sure if I look more I can find more, but at the moment it's a rare trope for me to find with actual great banter and story that hooks me in. I enjoyed Allie and Hudson's journey throughout this story and am looking forward to the next book in this series.
"Love Signals" by Melanie Summers is such a fun read, especially if you’re into women in STEM rom-coms. As a Space Between Us fan, it was fun to see some of the characters come into this novel! As a second-generation Italian, I loved how Melanie nailed the Italian-American family dynamics in Love Signals – the Sunday dinners and the mom-daughter chats were spot on and super relatable. Fun little personal extra for me is that the FMC middle name is Bianca! Summers crafts a charming tale in the realm of women in STEM, with vibes reminiscent of Ali Hazelwood's work. The story's true gem is its cinnamon roll male lead, who is endearingly sweet and supportive. However, the female main character's irrational behavior during the third-act breakup tested my patience. I think the whole "I hate liars" thing went too far... While this drama detracted from my enjoyment toward the end, the overall story was engaging enough that I’ll continue to dive into more of Melanie Summers' novels!
Thank you NetGalley and Melanie Summers for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Melanie writes the best lighthearted romcom books! While Love Signals can be read as a standalone, I think it’s likely best enjoyed after reading The Space Between Us (book one in the “series”). I thoroughly enjoyed returning to the SETI research world and the cameos from Gwen and Ty. Allegra and Hudson were cute and well matched and I loved the dyslexia representation and opposites attract trope.
For whatever reason I think I enjoyed book one just a little bit more and it likely is because of all the traveling!
Thanks so much to Melanie Summers for the arc. All thoughts are mine and given voluntarily 😊
