This could be my book of 2024. I read it in one setting. . Julie Houston is one amazing writer . I have read all her book but this was so so good This story covered so many topics county lines, wealth , race, child abuse, struggling parents, childhood poverty ,.dreams being shattered. You also had love. I can’t review it to do it justice.. Began in London and ended in West Yorkshire.. I would give it 10 stars if I could..Read it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing this book, with my honest review below.
A Class Act has me excited to read other books in this series because I loved the story development but was left wondering if our heroine, Robyn, would make it back to the big stage. Robyn was endearing and on a more serious note I think her trials in facing racism in her boyfriend’s family will be one that (if even fictional) many face and would be a great storyline to continue to explore (even from afar through another character’s perspective).
This was incredibly feel good but of the type that doesn’t read as contrived but just leaves you satisfied to have read a heartwarming story. Sometimes it’s okay to have (almost) everything fall into place, and as a result I’d recommend this for true romance lovers who know they’re reading a sweet tale but like a more substantial plot to go with it.
I was excited to read this first in a new series novel. This author’s books have the ability to simultaneously make you unable to stop reading while wishing you could bury the book somewhere deep underground where it can't be found. Compelling and didn’t want it to end! Look forward to the next book!
What an absolute cracking start to a new series. I devoured it, Julie Houston has a knack of writing characters you feel like you know and miss when the story has ended.
I laughed, I cried and can’t wait for the next in the series.
A stonking good read.
Highly recommend.
This is the first time I've read a book by author Julie Houston. Learning that this book is the first in a new series excited me. I enjoyed the faraway setting and the characters. Houston well planned the story out, and I appreciated the pacing. I wasn't bored! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Four stars.
