I had not heard anything about this book or the author before starting to read. The premise sounded interesting, as I like 'magical' stories, and in a historical setting ... however this was not at all what I expected. I found the beginning rather tedious, but carried on in order to get to the exciting part. When I realised it was about vampires, I abandoned it. Not to my taste and I would have appreciated this being in the blurb so I could have avoided it.
