I got this book as an e-arc thanks to Netgalley.
I love the whole accidental marriage what-should-we-do-now should-we-just-pretend-to-be-in-love ? Kind of books. Those are my kryptonite. Even though this story has some great tropes and on paper I should have liked it, I actually didn’t… I mean, I enjoyed the beginning, with the whole secret friendship and the Vegas wedding. But the timeline was off. I didn’t like the “now” and “then” chapters because most of the time I was confused in which timeline we were…. I know that it seemed more interesting, and readers should want to know what happened and be surprised. But not me.
I liked the characters. Those two opposite personalities and how they fit together. Rachel and her love for music and her natural chaos. And Adam, with his rules and rightfulness. They make an unusual couple and that’s probably why nobody in their family/friends are seeing them. Really seeing them.
Such a sweet read! This read was such a fairy tale. I loved how sweet they were with each other and how they even met in the first place. The scene where they went dancing with her dad was adorable I wished it was longer!!!
It was a slow build up to get to where I was really connected to the characters. I think I just like more of a dialogue to really feel for the characters.
I would recommend this book to anyone in between reads needing a lighted heart sweet romance.
This was a 10/10!! I loved everything about this! My second Juliana Smith book and this one is it for me!
Marriage of convenience, friends to lovers!
Rachel was so fun, spunky and the life of the party. She had some much going on but she never let it diminish her life. She was literally handed struggle after struggle but she always kept a smile on her face. She knew she need good insurance to help her dad and then walks in Adam Wells to the rescue.
Adam Wells, Army and investor and caring Wells brother. Ugh he was spectacular!! He gave Rachel everything! Physically and mentally. He is the ideal of 'if he wanted to, he would' and HE DID! Their marriage of convenience was very one sided but the feels were just feeling!!! Their chemistry was very meant to be and they fit together like a puzzle. Unfortunately with the third act break up there was alot of tension and emotions but there was so much love that love conquers all. (cheesy) Their love was natural and real and I just loved everything about this!!
Adam Wells is something else…
- he's grumpy, shy and blushes 😩
- has tattoos, dedicated to the people he loves 🩷
- is supportive and even gets her dream store 🏩
- has a motorcycle 🏍️
I love biker boys!!!!!!!!!!
I love Juliana's writing. It's very atmospheric, vivid, and metaphorically beautiful. The characters have depth, added dimensions that comes with their experiences and how it shaped their present persona. The story constructed in two timelines, past and present which beautifully orchestrated Adam and Rachel's friendship and love, their newly accidental marriage in convenience to them finally realising that love stays no matter what
This was such a cute read. I’ve loved this entire series so far and this did not disappoint. The record store setting was adorable and I loved the depth with her dad.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - “Don’t you think, in some way, you’ve been mine since the night we met?” - For the Record, Juliana Smith
If Juliana Smith writes it, I’m gonna read it!
Such an easy 5 star for me! Every time I read one of Juliana Smith’s books, the new one becomes my favourite and here we are again!!
Dual POV
Marriage of Convenience
Friends to Lovers
I always enjoy how much thought goes into the covers of these books - but not only that, there’s the playlist and the fact that every chapter starts with “Currently Playing:_”
Adam and Rachel are just so freaking cute! Imagine your best friend knowing that they want to propose to you and have the ring for ages and then it happens on a drunken night in Vegas!!
Juliana’s writing is definitely becoming one of my favourites!
For the Record is such an easy, feel good romance. I really enjoyed reading Adam and Rachel’s relationship between the ‘Now’ and ‘Then’ and seeing their feelings grow. Sometimes dual timelines can become confusing, but every chapter was just so beautifully written. Both Rachel and Adam have a strong believable voice, so I knew where I was at in the story and whose perspective I was reading the chapter from.
Juliana writes in a way that makes it so easy to appreciate the characters and their story. Everything about them was really relatable from the start and I didn’t want to put the book down.
A grumpy x sunshine trope, with a quiet, tattooed, “sailor”(iykyk) MMC and flirty, music-loving FMC - we’re taken through their relationship history of drinks, texts, secret meetings, fights and A LOT of understanding. They understand, accept and appreciate the other and it honestly radiates through.
From sourdough Starter pets, Spotify playlists, meaningful tattoos and daily notes on the fridge, For the Record is not from to miss!
Thank you to Juliana Smith and NetGalley for the ARC! Congrats again on the new release!
This book consists of the below tropes:
- Friends to lovers
- Grumpy x sunshine
- Dual pov
- Marriage of convenience
- Guy falls first
- Past & present timeline
I didn't realise the book was 4th in a series but it was really easy to pick up and read as a standalone without having read the previous books.
This was a cute romcom type book, where two friends wake up in Vegas having just drunkenly got married. Unsurprisingly we find out this wasn't spontaneous and they have a whole heated history.
What I really liked about the book was that Rachel and Adam just seem so completely at ease with each other and are the only people that each will let their guards fully down for. I also enjoyed how much Rachel loves music and the playlist the author shares for the character. Also when the book mentioned some of my favourite movies and TV shows, this really made me smile.
What I didn't enjoy so much was the miscommunication aspect and.. I just didn't quite get why Rachel basically asks Adam what is going on between them, more than once, and he can't just fess up? It was really frustrating for him to say he's had feelings for her since they met and she tells him to give her a reason not to start dating and he just doesn't say anything.
He later tells his family that he has done something big (no spoilers) and wanted to know Rachel's feelings weren't about this but... She didn't even know about the thing so that didn't make a lot of sense.
Also, and it's a little thing, the timeline/ages also might have been a little off? Rachel says she is 27 in one chapter and 26 in another and also that family left when she was 19 but then says her big sister left when the sister was 18? It's really small details but it didn't seem consistent.
I was going to give this book 3⭐ but the author's acknowledgements pushed it to 3.5 for me because it's obvious how much it means to her, as the book is so personal and full of real life memories. I'll round to 4⭐ for the rating for this reason.
Thank you to Netgalley, Victory Editing Netgalley Co-op and the author for the review copy, provided in exchange for an honest opinion.
For the Record is a book every reader needs to read if you love;
- Friends to lovers
- Grumpy x Sunshine
- He falls first and harder
- Marriage of Convenience
- Drunken Vegas wedding
Juliana Smith is an amazing writer, and her Wells Family series is one of the best ever. It's such a great soft and sweet rom-com that's perfect for a calm read. Adam is a quiet, tattooed active duty military member, who will make anyone fall for him. He is the perfect example of how he falls first and hard, with his tough exterior, yet is only soft for Rachel. She is a music lover who is the definition of sunshine in a grumpy x sunshine romance.
It is the best book and worth the read.
Thank you to Juliana and Netgalley
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it so many more times, I absolutely adore Juliana Smith and I don’t think she could write something I don’t love. Adam and Rachel are absolutely wonderful. Their growth in their friendship and relationship and the way it built between the dual timelines was perfection. I really enjoyed Rachel’s relationship with her dad and seeing glimpses of him and Adam as well. Adam might be one of my favorite, he might not say much but he shows it in his actions if you’re paying attention. He’s the best grumpy cinnamon roll I’ve ever met..read..you know what I mean! If I had to change one thing it would be the little TINY third act breakup it was a bit dramatic in my opinion but it got resolved fast enough I let it go 😂. Overall, It’s a sweet easy read packed full of heartwarming moments, laughter and glimpses of your favorite Wells family characters.
If you’ve not read this one yet it’s now available on KU along with the other Wells Family books- I suggest starting from the 1st and reading them all!
thank you victory editing netgalley co-op for letting me read and review this book!
Adam and Rachel are a perfect couple and i loved them together. the way they cared for each other and lifted each other up was the most special thing.
i loved how much we were able to see the characters from the last books too.
i can't wait to read crew's story and to see all the characters in the future!
p.s. i really want a tattoo now
Overall, a sweet, romantic comedy. I enjoyed the use of songs throughout the book, I love a good book playlist. The writing style is quick and easy to read, though some of the switches between then and now was a bit choppy.
this book has absolutely everything you could want in a sweet, pick me up, feel good romance.
-marriage of convenience
-dual timeline
-dual POV
-he falls first and HARD AF
-he buys a record store for her
truly Juliana’s writing is some of my absolute favorite. it is so easy to just get sucked in and appreciate the characters and the story! Her books are generally feel good, head over heels romance and they’re quick reads that will have you scrambling for your next book.
this was probably some of my favorite writing from Juliana. The characters felt relatable and effortless. Their story was captivating and sweet & i will always say i am a sucker for a marriage of convenience. I really enjoyed the aspect that he planned to marry her before the agreement cuz he fell hard and first!
Would absolutely recommend & go back for more from Juliana.
"Wedding bells ring in this marriage of convenience, friends to lovers, light-hearted rom com full of heart, laughter, and sourdough starters."
thank you to netgalley and the author Juliana Smith for this advanced readers copy. It was an amazing read
2.5 stars.
So this is probably my least favorite book so far in this series. The miscommunication and silent, but stoic guy who just doesn't talk, was not it for me.
I've read books with the "we accidentally got married and we're pretending to be married now" trope before, but this book didn't really do it justice. They said they would stay married, but then nothing really happened. They didn't really have a lot of dialogue and had more internal thoughts. I really would have liked to get more meaningful dialogue between them before the end. I think that could've made this so much better for me.
I really wanted to like this one, but it was a bit too hot and cold for me, with absolutely no communication between the characters. Overall, I'm still rooting for Luke & Layla, but could just completely disregard Adam and Rachel. 😔
For someone who has not read any of the previous books this was super easy to jump into. I appreciate that although they connect, the reader is not lost if this is the first book read. The story here was adorable and although I sort of figured out the big surprise early on, it didn't ruin anything for me. It was great to see how the story played out. All the intros with music was also great and added to my playlists for the future! Great book.
Juliana Smith writes the best rom coms and you can’t convince me otherwise. Of the entire Wells family, this book was definitely my favorite. The friends to lovers and the grumpy sunshine was incredible! I loved the relationship between the main characters and watching it grow between the then and now. The male main character also showed his love through acts of service, which perfectly complimented his grumpy attitude. His actions were so cute and truly made the book! I did, however, feel like we went in circles for soooo long and that caused it to feel drawn out. Ultimately, that was why my rating dropped.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!!!! It truly meant so much and I look forward to the next in the series!
Juliana did an amazing job at writing a heartfelt and fun novel perfect for lovers of contemporary romance! This sweet story revolves around Adam and Rachel, who wake up and find out they've gotten married after a hectic night in Vegas. Instead of getting an annulment, they use the marriage to their benefit.
I really liked that there was a dual POV throughout the book as it provided depth and a better understanding of each characters. At times I did feel as though the pacing could be slow, but the characters and their banter made-up for it!!
I look forward to reading more Juliana's work!
I loved the story. Adam and Rachel are sooo cute 😭💖
I gave it 4 stars because I felt at times the book was dragging. Some parts just felt unnecessary to me but overall it’s a wonderful read.
I loved their silliness and quirkiness.
This was definitely different because I haven’t read anything where someone was the sole family member of someone ailing. But it really touched me. I definitely understood why they were slow burn throughout their relationship, it was very realistic.
Very sweet story and I’m so happy they found each other.
Lol @ her not being able to down the whiskey when that’s my legit fave 😂
Thank you to NetGalley and Juliana Smith for giving me a copy of this lovely book 💖
I'm obsessed with this series! Adam and Rachel's marriage of convenience was perfect. This is the book to read when you need a palate cleanser—a feel-good Hallmark-type story. It gave me all the warm, fuzzy feelings, and I loved it so much.
