I'm always a sucker for a grumpy x sunshine story, so this one was a fun read. It gave me a teeny bit of Happiness for Beginners vibes with the wilderness and self exploration themes. This was a really cute, quick read if you're looking for a palette cleanser with a sweet story and lovable characters.

This was a super cute rom com!
It started off with the FMC getting dumped on her birthday, which is such a tough thing to go through! It takes you on her journey as well as the MMCs journey.
It was a grumpy/sunshine, and I absolutely loved it!
I loved how both characters grew throughout the book.
It was a fun read and I definitely recommend it!

I was looking forward to reading this first book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a fun romcom perfect for those who love the outdoors. Lucy is dumped on her birthday (who does that?!) and has to move out. She then goes on a hiking trip alone with a grumpy guide which is a good distraction from her sadness. I loved Lucy and Jonathan together and their chemistry was spot on.

I look forward to reading more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

I loved this rom-com so much. A woman rediscovering herself after her relationship ends; a man learning to trust again after an accident takes his wife. A hiking trip that forces them together… and a landslide that turns it into a much more involved adventure. Add to that a grand gesture at the end (and a drag queen bff) and this ended up being such an enjoyable book to read. I can’t wait until book 2 is out!

I love a good grumpy/sunshine book, and this one did not disappoint! It was such a cute story with great characters, I had a really hard time putting it down. I hope the next one comes out soon!

Love by a Landslide is an adventurous romance with a touch of rom-com. Recently single, Lucy O'Malley books Jonathan Miller as a hiking guide in Leavenworth, WA. Her hiking skills are a bit rusty, but she falls back into the swing of it until an avalanche leaves their path blocked and extends their hike by a few days.
They are forced to rely on each other for survival, as well as navigate the quickly growing attraction to each other.
The characters are stubborn and damaged, making them realistic and relatable. The author does mention at the end that this is going to be a series, which is exciting. I'm definitely a series girl! Plus, Lucy's drag Queen BFF, Todd, is hilarious!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for a copy of the arc.

Getting dumped is hard, getting dumped on your birthday is harder. Especially after spending time with people you didn't want to spend time with but only did because your boyfriend was supposed to be there to make things better for you.
This book is grumpy/sunshine coded. There's no denying it.
It's absolutely wonderful and I love how both characters grew at the end of the book.
I'll definitely be interested in more by this author.
Till next time.

Such a cute read! I loved this!!
I don't have a lot of needs when it comes to a book, and Ill read almost all tropes, but a good grumpy/sunshine would have to be at the top of my lst for a good time! So glad this debut novel didn't disappoint!!

I just devoured "Love by a Landslide" by K.L. Parsons, and wow, what a fun read! This fresh new release (available since the beginning of June), is a perfect blend of adventure, romance and self-discovery.

Lucy O’Malley is on a mission to reinvent herself after a rough breakup and a milestone birthday. Her destination? The charming, Bavarian-themed Leavenworth, Washington, for some solo beer, bratwurst, and backpacking.
Then there's Jonathan, the cautious owner of Off the Beaten Adventures. He is all about meticulous planning and avoiding risks, so he isn't thrilled about taking Lucy on a one-on-one hiking adventure.

They have an undeniable mutual attraction to each other, but neither is looking for a fling, especially when things get rocky—literally. A freak landslide traps them in the wilderness, and their adventure turns into a fight for survival, complete with sizzling chemistry and heart-pounding moments.

Lucy and Jonathan's journey through the wilderness is packed with tension, both from their predicament and their growing feelings for each other. The dynamic between them is electric, and I couldn't help but root for these two to find their way home (and into each other's hearts haha).

Huge thanks to K.L. Parsons for the advanced readers copy! If you're looking for a fun romance with a side of adventure, this one's for you.

Love by a landslide is a cute grumpy sunshine story with a dash of enemies to lovers and forced proximity.
Lucy’s just been dumped on her birthday no less & the couples hiking trip for her birthday they had planned is now for 1.
Johnathan has some un-dealt-with trauma from losing his wife a few years back, he doesn’t like change and the idea of having 1 woman under his guidance in this hike instead of a couple throws him off, he desperately tries to cancel, but Lucy is having none of it!
Unplanned weather, change of routes and injuries cause their 2 day trip to double and pushes them to trust each other more than ever, but is it just the situation they’re in? Or could what they are feeling be real?
This was a cute story, very easy to read and fairly well paced.

Awesome debut novel written by K.L. Parsons! This romance novel is perfect for nature lovers, fans of the one hammock trope, and feeling all the feelings. When Lucy is dumped on her birthday and forced to move out of her long term boyfriend’s apartment suddenly, she embarks on a previously scheduled trip alone with a grouchy hiking guide. What follows is an adventurous tale about learning to be the sunshine. Lucy and Jonathan are very cute together as they navigate some intense circumstances. This is a must read heartwarming adventure!

This is a great, quick summer read.. as long as you don't have any hikes planned near avalanche zones😅🤣😂. The characters are stubborn and damaged, making them realistic and relatable. The author does mention at the end that this is going to be a series, which is exciting. I'm definitely a series girl! Plus, Lucy's drag Queen BFF, Todd, is hilarious!

Thank you to NetGalley and K.L. Parsons for an advanced reader copy in exchange for my review. Below are my honest opinions and thoughts.

I cannot believe this was a debut novel! The writing was amazing and so descriptive. I felt like I was hiking alongside Lucy and Jonathon. I really enjoyed watching the two main characters grow and evolve throughout the story. I loved the banter between them and found Lucy very relatable. It was wonderful to watch her find herself again and become so strong and resilient and to see Jonathon acknowledge and admire her for it. Her motto was "If you can't see the sunshine, be the sunshine." It's probably why Jonathon nicknames her "Sunshine." Although I typically don't like third-act breakups, this one was well executed, and I appreciate how the characters handled the separation. I'm really looking forward to the next book, Love Under Snowfall.

Tropes:
Grumpy x Sunshine
Dual POV
Hurt x Comfort
Protective MMC
Forced Proximity
Only One Hammock
Hiker x Guide
Slow Burn
Mutual Pining

If you enjoyed All Rhodes Lead Here and Happiness for Beginners, I guarantee you'll enjoy this debut from K.L. Parsons.

4.5 Stars

Debut novel
#MiddleLifeRomance
He falls first
Forced proximity (only one hammock)

Lucy is definitely an in for a penny kinda person, I can relate to her doubling down on her mistakes and getting feisty when she thinks people are underestimating her.

This book was great, filled with adventure, peril, and steam. It made me think of Happiness for Beginners, but I actually liked this book.

It also touched on personal growth and healing from trauma and PTSD.

Lucy O’Malley is done being a doormat. After getting dumped and booted from her apartment on her thirtieth birthday, she finds herself on the road to Leavenworth, Washington, for a little beer, bratwurst, and backpacking. Who cares if the Bavarian-themed “romantic getaway” was originally planned for a couple? Unfortunately, her guide and owner of Off the Beaten Adventures Jonathan Miller does.

He saw her as bad news from the get-go and tried to cancel the trip, but she wasn't having it. Their mutual attraction made matters worse. He had sworn off relationships ever since the unthinkable happened on a rafting trip four year before.

Still, he had to follow through with taking her on the trip. When a freak landslide destroyed their only serviceable trail home, they had to figure out how to survive the wilderness and return to civilization intact.

I loved the Pacific Northwest wilderness setting. Their adventure took them through cliffs, beautiful water bodies and scenery. Their path back to safety brought them closer though they had to confront their pasts before they finally got together. Loved that for them!

This was a great debut. Thank you to Netgalley and Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
