The Cardinal's Curse is a mixture of Indiana Jones + National Treasure + Relic Hunter + Lara Croft + Robert Langdon and it was an entertaining ride!

I received an ALC a while back and began listening to it a couple of weeks ago but after the 25% mark it stopped playing for me... I am not sure but there might have been a issue with the download. However, by that time I was already interested in the story so I decided to read the book instead and I enjoyed it.

This is the second book in the series and can be read as a standalone but I will definitely be checking out the first book to see how the treasure seeking adventures of Avery Turner and Carter Mosley, with a retired FBI agent Harrison as their sidekick, all began!

Full of globe trotting action & adventure, witty banter and an interesting cast of characters I think this book series has the potential to be turned into a movie or TV series.

My thanks to NetGalley, the publishers Dreamscape Select/Severn River Publishing and the authors for the ALC even though I was unable to listen to it completely.

The Cardinal's Curse is the 2nd book in The Turner and Mosely Files by LynDee Walker & Bruce Robert Coffin. I hadn’t read the previous books in the series and was easily able to read this as a standalone mystery.

I thought this was a unique take on crime solving. I loved the dive team aspect. I thought this was a great book and I look forward to reading other books in the series!

I really enjoyed the narration by Alan Carlson.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This audiobook can be listened to as a standalone but I think it would have been even more engrossing If I had listened to the first in the series. A little more background info would have been good.
An under water treasure hunt is always entertaining and great to listen to during a long car ride add in suspense and bad guys, even better!

Wasn't sure that I was going to like this book, when I choose it I thought it might be a bit too much on the historical fiction side, but whomever does the narration is great. That is what kept me listening to this book, the voices were great and soon enough I was hooked.

4.5 ⭐️
I didn't realize this was the second book in a series and read it without ever reading book one. Despite that, I still LOVED this book and the group of friends we follow as they hunt down lost (and potentially cursed) treasure!
This book is such an amazingly fun adventure. Each of the three main characters is so unique and complements each other well. This book was funny, witty, thrilling, and provided many twists and turns for not only the main characters but also with all the supporting cast along the way. I personally love stories with large casts, but I will say it was hard to keep a few of the female side characters straight in my mind (but again this could be due to me not knowing those supporting characters from the first book). Also, the narrator did a fantastic job! One of the better audiobooks I've listened to for sure.
I definitely highly recommend this book and may even loop back to read the first one! Truly the only reason I could not give this book a full five stars was because I got confused on which female side character was which, the story did feel a little long towards the end, and it wrapped up a little too fast for my liking. However, I do think this style of ending will be fairly well liked by those who are fans of adventure movies and books.

(Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a free audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts/review.)

Another winner in the series for LynDee and Bruce. Excellent narration paired with excellent, high-suspense writing full of interesting details about a world foreign to most of us—above and below the water.

I love a good adventure book and this one was solid. I wish the story had less action and more adventure, but overall it was good.

In this Antarctic expedition, tech genius Avery Turner and thrill-seeker Carter Mosley hunt for lost treasure. The plot keeps readers engaged, but pacing occasionally falters. If you enjoy mystery and adventure, give it a read! 📚

The Cardinal’s Curse The Turner and Mosley Files by LynDee and Bruce Coffin

The Cardinal’s Curse follows the treasure hunt for a sunken ship, which has been lost since the 1500s and the jewels located aboard. The story references the Titanic discovery, and the story definitely made me think of it on more than one occasion. Avery Turner and Carter Mosley get approached to help dive this mysterious, and believed to be cursed, wreck. The dive that they are asked to do, is deeper than they have ever gone, and contains lots of risks as the depth can cause serious injury.

Enjoying the thrill and adventure, their team embarks on this dangerous journey, never expecting the true dangers lurking at every turn. The book is fast paced with devious characters, dangerous situations, and heart pounding drama. This was my first read by this author and I really enjoyed the story as well as the constant danger lurking everywhere. Will they survive this adventure? Or will the Curse claim more victims? This was a fast paced thrill ride with mystery, intrigue, danger and hidden treasure.

I enjoyed the narrator Alan Carlson. Some of the voices were a bit cringy but overall they were fun and engaging. He kept you listening and I found myself laughing at some of his voices. You had no trouble following who was who.

The Cardinal's Curse by LynDee Walker; Bruce Robert Coffin and narrated by Alan Carlson was a very interesting foray into the genre of Mystery/ Action/ Adventure for me as the tropes can be repetitive and a little bit James Bond-y.

However, not in this case. Admittedly though (and excuse the pun) I was a little adrift in the first chapters of the book, learning who everybody was, but I was getting full on Archer vibes from the dialogue and that kept me on board (look, I am sorry, I don't know where the puns are coming from today)

Alan Carlson is a great choice to narrate this book, with a calm yet resonant timbre that was a gret backbone for the narrative

Loved it

In the book The Cardinal's Curse, authors LynDee Walker and Bruce Robert Coffin continue their Turner and Mosely Files series. Their fame after finding the General's Gold has led to them receiving an invitation to join a cutting edge research program in Antarctica. But what is really going on with the research? And what is really on the ship under the ice? And is everyone on this expedition a criminal or greedy? And will it cost them their lives? This was a great fast-paced book and I look forward to more in the series. I would recommend this book. The audio-book narration was very good. I received a copy of this audio-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a lot of fun with banter and the overall storyline. The banter between Carter and Harrison reminded me of the banter between Gibbs and Dinozzo from NCIS. The world building was good and I could usually imagine a very vivid scene of where our characters are. The dialogue could be a bit cheesy and unrealistic at times, and sometimes the intense part of the story was made less intense because the characters would joke a bit more than I felt would be normal.

Narration:
The flow of the narrator was good. I liked their tone they took in moments of the book, but I am not sure if the narrator exactly fits the vibe of the book. It is only one person narrating it all, but he has a very deep and grovely voice. He did a great job making each character unique.

Overall:
I am a mostly audiobook reader, I think that the audiobook does really well capturing the book. I think a physical book or e-book could bring a better experience for the dialogue. 3.75/5.

I really enjoy this genre. I love the hunt for historical treasure. As a reader, you learn so much about the history surrounding the treasure and it just opens a whole new world. This novel does just that!

Avery and Carter have been offered a chance to join an expedition. This expedition is in the Antarctica and they are looking for a legendary shipwreck that contains the long-lost crown jewels of Norway. This expedition comes with chilling tales of centuries-old curses and an unsolved murder. This leads them to a more perilous situation than they ever imagined.

There are quite a few things I enjoyed about this novel. I loved the characters, the setting, the science and history. But I especially loved the intensity! This takes you on a wild ride! Not only are they hunting for treasure, they are trying not to get murdered!

The narrator, Alan Carlson, did a great job with all the male voices and the intensity.

I knew nothing about the authors or their books, but the description of this one sounded interesting. It was that and exciting, too. Great characters and a good premise. Everything came together nicely and was very satisfying. The narrator of the audiobook did a good job and was easy to listen to.

4 stars - To be honest… I really questioned myself with this one. For the first 20% I couldn’t get into it and even got bored. BUT somewhere between the 35-40% mark, I was hooked!

A big thanks to NetGalley, Dreamscape Select/Severn River Publishing, LynDee Walker and Bruce Robert Coffin for giving me an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Summary:
Avery Turner, tech-genius, and Carter Mosley, thrill-seeker and instagram star, are off to new adventures. In this book (book 2 in the Turner and Mosley Files series), they have to travel into the heart of Antarctica to find a shipwreck and the long-lost Crown Jewels of Norway.

Audiobook:
I did like the narrator. For some reason I can’t explain, his voice really fit the story.

Story:
Once you get into the story the book keeps you in its fangs.
Even if some „plot twists“ are quite predictable, the constant back and forth keeps you on your toes and ensures that you can’t put the book down.

Characters:
Sadly, I couldn’t really connect to the characters. I did like Avery, but Carter felt a little like his entire personality was being famous.

Emotions:
Sometimes it felt as though this should have been a movie instead of a book. The plot and the description were very similar (in style) to almost every treasure hunt movie out there. (Which isn’t a bad thing! As long as you know what you’re getting into.) I can see why people are comparing this to the Da Vinci Code.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book. But it won't be a new favorite.

I really enjoyed this treasure hunt that traveled around the world. Great characters, great story development and clear narration.

Avery Turner and Carter Mosely have teamed up to find lost treasures, and it has made them rich. Avery from the new dive tech gear that she developed and Carter from his million plus followers on social media. They received an anonymous invitation to Antarctica to help find a shipwreck believed to contain the lost crown jewels of Norway. Lies, sabotage and death threats ensue while they, along with bodyguard Harry, track the treasure from Norway to Antarctica to Argentina and more. Lots of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.

Thanks to NetGalley for the audiobook version of this story to read and review.

I will get the other books in this series, worth the read if you like mystery-action stories.

Avery, Carter, and Harry are back in another adventure to exotic climes in search of an ancient, possibly cursed, treasure, First stop - Antarctica.. Has any book set in the Antarctic ever boded well for visitors? Not in my experience, and this is no exception. However, the action is not limited to our most isolated continent and will take our adventurers to the British Isles and parts of Europe before all is done.

I enjoy this series. The settings are intriguing, the mysteries complex, and the characters are interesting and clever, but I must say that I thought they were a little too bumbling in this outing. Do not misunderstand. They are still smart and resourceful, and the mystery was engaging, but I thought after the events of the first book, as well as the opening salvos in this one, these characters would be better prepared to either evade or fend off the bad guys. I won't say more for fear of spoilers, but I do hope they tighten up their act in the next book. That said, this is a good read, and I recommend it, particularly to readers of Clive Cussler and Steve Berry. I look forward my next adventure with Avery, Carter, and Harry.

Title: The General’s Gold
Series: The Turner and Mosley Files #2
Author: Lyndee Walker and Bruce Robert Coffin
Format: 🎧
Audiobook Narrator: Alan Carlson
Genre: Mystery, Adventure
Publisher: Dreamscape Select/Severn River Publishing
Pub Date: June 11. 2024
Star Rating: 4 Stars

I read The General’s Gold" the first in this series (which was great!) and the basic plot has similarities with the first book with the same three protagonists, Avery, Carter and Harrison~
Carter Mosley is a deep-sea shipwreck diver also an ‘Instagram’ Star. He has been trying to get Avery Turner to try deep-sea diving. She finally does and just loves it.
Avery is a billionaire computer genius, her mother was a homicide detective and her partner was Harrison.

In this story they are involved in trying to recover some long lost treasure - the 1500s Norway's Royal crown and a stash of jewels and coins which are in a ship that sunk in the early 1900s in Antarctica,

The fire on the ship was all too real as a couple years ago there was a tragedy fire as the divers were sleeping below deck.
The fire quickly engulfed the boat which led to the deaths of all aboard except a crew member who was sleeping on deck.
The divers were local divers – ~living near the ocean we all know or are a diver.

The main characters as well as the narrator Alan Carlson did a great job in performing all the characters. Love the main characters in this pulse-pounding adventure and looking. Look forward to their next adventure!

I am now curious about book #3 in the series I love a good cover and neither of the first two had what I consider ‘great’ proving that you cannot judge a book by its cover!!

Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Select/Severn River Publishing for granting me this early audio..
Publishing Release Date scheduled for June 11, 2024.

Lives of the super rich are exhausting and frankly, I found the story presented from that perspective boring.

In a nutshell, this is an adventure as experienced by the super rich so the standard limitations like the resources, access, or the law don't apply. The pretext is 'saving the humanity' but I found the story quite main stream and the storytelling unengaging.

As far as audio, it is not my favourite when a single narrator is trying to make different characters sound distinctly different. It is bound to sound goofy at some point.
