Sinful Folk is a historical novel that delves into the mysterious and medieval. The story revolves around a group of villagers in 14th-century England who embark on a dangerous journey, uncovering secrets and facing challenges along the way.
One of the strengths of the book is its vivid and immersive historical setting. Hayes does a fantastic job of transporting readers to the medieval world, capturing the atmosphere, customs, and challenges of the time. The characters are well-developed, and you can feel their struggles and triumphs as they navigate through the plot.
I did find the pacing a bit slow. The intricate details and historical depth might be a double-edged sword for those looking for a quick, breezy read.
Overall, Sinful Folk is a captivating journey into the past, offering a rich historical experience with its well-crafted setting and characters. Whether you enjoy it might depend on your preference for pacing and desire for a neatly tied-up conclusion. It's definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of historical fiction with a touch of mystery.
I recently discovered that while I read this back in early 2014, I had not entered my review of it here.
Mear's journey was enchanting, depressing, so many things. Her quest to discover her son's killer was a true testament to a mother's love and devotion. This author's knowledge of medieval history was astonishing. It was "nice" if one can describe it as that, to read a book from the view of the working class rather than the nobility.
