Absolutely unpredictable! I had that feeling a few times that I was close, that I had it figured out, and each time I was wrong—I love stories like that!
Very intriguing, with current issues that could very well be true in many small towns. An interesting analysis of human motivations, behaviors, and justifications for one’s actions.
It’s one of those books that pleasantly surprised me.
Great book! Kept me interested from start to finish!! Twists that I did not see coming! 5 stars and looking forward to reading another book from this author!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of The Missing Body by Kerry Wilkinson in return for my honest review.
I love reading books by Kerry Wilkinson and this one is no exception full of twists and turns, this story has a really well written plot that will keep you reading and guessing till the end, I definitely recommend reading.
I enjoyed this tense thriller!
After Megan leaves her husband she moves back to her hometown to live with her sister. While Megan is getting settled she hears a scream and heads out to investigate. After finding a woman floating in a stream she runs to get help. When she returns to the stream with police the woman’s body is gone. Megan’s sister and the police have a hard time believing Megan’s story.
It was a slow start but picked up with a few good twists. Everything wrapped up nicely at the end.
I would definitely recommend this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Ooh, I like this mystery! I was able to guess what was happening about half way through the story. but that did not keep me from enjoying the parceling out of clues and the reveal. I felt bad for Megan, husband cheats on her, moves home to live with her sister, find a dead body and no one believes her, sister has everything she has ever wanted, and is a constant reminder of what she has lost. Megan starts to sound like a sad country song, but she does not let any of this keep her down. I love that she wasn't willing to lie down and accept any of this and started taking back her life and how her story would end.
Looking forward to reading more of Kerry Wilkinson's work in the future.
Whether it's as part of a series or a standalone thriller Kerry Wilkinson can always be relied upon for a top notch read. This is an excellent story. I thought Megan was a great character, a real feisty woman who might have been down but never out. The question of why she had left her hometown as a teenager kept me turning the pages late into the night. Then when she realised that there was something sinister going on in the town I loved discovering what it was along with her. Although the plot for the most part made me really angry I have to admit to a smile when Megan decided to take down her enemies. Another great read from a great author
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book
I have read one of Kerry's books already and loved it. So I knew I was going to love this one. The setting was what I loved most in this book. It created a great atmosphere . I love books set in small towns so this was a winner for me. I couldnt stop reading as I wanted to know what was going on.
My thanks to BookOuture and NetGalley for a copy of “ The Missing Body” for an honest review.
I’ve read most of Kerry Wilkinson’s previous books and been really impressed by them. I’m sad to say that this fell a little flat with me. About a third of the way in I guessed what was happening and I lost interest in the book.
Unfortunately I can only give this an average mark , compared to those I’ve reviewed before
Thank you Netgalley, Kerry Wilkinson and Bookouture for the eArc of The Missing Body.
I have really enjoyed the books I have read by Kerry Wilkinson and this was no expectation. I really enjoy her writing style as she can weave a medium plot line and building the characters really well throughout. There is some nice foreshadowing going on which enabled me to suss out what was going on around 50% of the book. I don't mind this at all because with these types of mystery thriller books, there is always a twist!
A well worth read.
4 stars
I enjoyed this book but it seemed to drag on for me a bit. The tooth...,,so much talking about the tooth. 😂 Great plot line though!
I was already a fan of Kerry Wilkinson before i started this book. Great build up with plenty of twists and turns that you won't see coming.
After her marriage breaks down Megan goes to stay with her sister. As she unpacks her things in the attic bedroom she hears a scream. She runs in the direction the scream came from & finds a young girl in the woods. She doesn't appear to be breathing. Megan tries CPR but she isn't sure she's getting anywhere. Having forgotten her phone she goes to call for help but when she leads police to the spot there is nothing there. No-one seems to believe her but she knows what she saw. Reluctantly she goes to help out in her sister's café, not something she enjoys! There seem to be a lot of strange goings on in this small seaside town, Megan cannot help but try & find out what's going on- even if she puts herself in danger.
This took a while to get going. I am a great fan of Kerry Wilkinson but I didn't feel this was one of his best- maybe because I guessed early on what was happening & that doesn't usually happen! It was still a good read though. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
This author is one of my absolute favourites. Every book of his is pure reading delight! Loved, loved, loved this one. Thrilling and addictive, a fantastic read.
I would highly recommend this book it had a great build up and for sure you will not see that twist coming. I would love to see a 2nd book to this maybe telling the story before Megan came back, or giving us a look at the future because I think there are so many ways the future could go.
The Missing Body is an interesting story with layers. I am not sure that it lives up to a psychological thriller for me. There were definitely some surprise betrayals but they were predictable and did not shock me. This was an enjoyable read.
I am a real fan of Kerry Wilkinson and was excited to read this latest book. It started off good but toward the middle I felt like I knew where it was heading. There were still quite a few twists and turns to keep it interesting. Thanks to NetGalley for the privilege to read and review this book.
This was a gripping and tense thriller. Megan returns to her hometown to stay with her sister after leaving her husband. She hears a scream and goes to investigate. What she sees is a woman lying in a shallow stream. She performs CPR then returns to the house to get her phone. When she returns to the spot with emergency services, the woman is gone! Everyone thinks she’s crazy. From here we are exposed to twists and turns as we are exposed to glimpses from the past. More and more secrets are revealed as the plot develops. There were mysterious characters, and I was so invested wanting to know how everything would fit together at the end.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book started out well and got my attention. Then it got lost in itself and meandered around for awhile. Around the time I started speed reading, it got more interesting. By the end it redeemed itself. Megan did solve what was going on in a rather unremarkable town. Perhaps the middle section could have been helped by a bit more of drama or suspense, but instead everything Megan did was blah.
I’ve just spent the last 24 hours talking to myself thanks to this book (shut it!).
Firstly, as I hashed out my theories on what the H-E-Eck was going on…
Secondly, as I patted myself on the back for a job well done (we’re talking the full fist pump/seat shimmy combo – well… if you’re gonna do something right *shrugs*).
You all know I’m mostly a romance girlie, but every once in a while, I enjoy a good mystery thriller and Kerry Wilkinson has certainly delivered that with The Missing Body.
Megan’s unexpected & (initially) unexplained return to her hometown, the discovery of the then disappearing body coupled with the eerie aura of the town had me hooked from the off. Hollicombe Bay was giving me all the ‘Local Shop’ à la The League of Gentlemen vibes… IYKYK!
The author kept up the pace brilliantly, building the tension layer by layer… luring you in to then ease off, but just a smidge *pinches fingers*. Cue my emergency tea break intermission around *mumbles* percent (I can’t give that away!) as my nerves couldn’t take much more. (It’s not like I’m dramatic in the slightest, you understand *side eyes you*.)
I’ve found mystery thrillers can be a bit open-ended at the end (*taps chin* am I saying that right?) but TMB’s ending was satisfying from my POV. Probs because all my theories were correct. (I’m shameless, I know! *smirks*)
Sometimes you have to scratch the surface to reveal the murky truths hidden beneath.
I have loved all the books I have read previously by Kerry Wilkinson and The Missing Body is no exception. This one had a fantastic storyline full of interesting, well written characters and I just could not put it down.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
