I’m sorry to do this, but this book is objectively terrible. It’s spice with no plot, and the spice is icky. There is a huge age gap - 21 FMC with 38 MMC. The FMC is supposed to have been abused by her husband for 3 years, and yet jumps into this weird relationship with this old guy? I’m not buying it…and neither should you. Also, he can smell her ovulating? Just no. No no no no no. Do not pass go. Do not collect $500.

Sovereign is a dark and spicy cowboy romance. The cover is absolutely smoking hot! blurb had me intrigued even though I don’t really read/enjoy BDSM books (smutty, spicy books yes!) The narrators totally bring this book to life. Oliver Clarke is the commanding voice of Gerard Sovereign while Stefanie Kay has the sweet and gentle voice of Keira Garrison.

Gerard Sovereign is the owner of the biggest ranch in Montana & Keira Garrison is unhappily married to one of his most hated rivals. Their unexpected meeting shows they have undeniable chemistry. Sovereign is determined to make Keira his, and he gets his chance when Keira is widowed and her brothers-in-law will stop at nothing to possess the land she inherits. Dark and brooding, it’s told from alternating points-of-view. Is Sovereign her saviour or her captor? Is Keira submissive? Will she be his submissive?

I’m excited to see where the next book in the series takes us!

Ooooof, this was one steamy hot read. I devoured the entire thing. It was fast pace and kept my attention well with both the plot and the spice. Both narrators (dual narration) did a fantastic job at bring these characters to life.
I am already looking forward to the next trip back to Northern Montana for Weston and Diana’s book.

I loved this book. Super spicy and the narrators did such a great job and brought the MCs voices to life. I can not wait for Westin's book! Definitely going to recommend this book to all my dark romance girls!

Where do I begin? This is a dark romance that is so steamy, full of sexual tension, & eventually love. It’s very fast paced & an overall good read! I liked the main characters from the very beginning & they became even more interesting as the story evolved. The author was captivating & I’d definitely read future books from them.

While I found this audiobook's narration and audio production to be quite well done, I struggled with the story's content. It was very romance-forward (including heavy BDSM elements) with a side plot of revenge. I was more interested in the revenge plot than I was in the romance itself, unfortunately.

The characters felt very one-dimensional. We were told of character development but I didn't see it reflected in the inner monologue. At one point the MMC tells the FMC that even though she is only 21, she seems much more mature. I couldn't say that I agreed, she felt very naive throughout the story. While she had been through very traumatic events, she seemed to shrink and become smaller in response and not grow in strength and maturity.

I also struggled with the concept of an abused and groomed woman being coerced and forced (MMC's word choice, not mine) into a business agreement and BDSM arrangement and falling into the submissive role so easily. While romance with BDSM elements isn't my primary subgenre, I read enough to know that this isn't usually a quick transition. There's a lot of emotional exploration, processing, and validation that needs to happen either before entering a BDSM relationship or during (or likely, both). I didn't see any of this emotional development and therefore it made this relationship feel disingenuous. When they said they loved each other, I found myself asking why. I didn't see any connection outside of their BDSM/business arrangement and insta-lust.

If you are looking for a dark cowboy romance with a morally grey (black) and highly possessive MMC, this might appeal to you, especially if you want a spicy book with little plot. But if you are looking for a romance with BDSM elements, I may suggest other authors or books prior to reading this one.

There isn't much of a plot. You have the alpha and the weepy doormat who has been previously abused who enters into a BDSM relationship immediately. Keira crying and the two of them having sex is pretty much the plot.

I've read books where sex is the plot. And sometimes it works. This time it does not. There are so many WTF moments. The fact that he claims he knows she is ovulating because he can smell it. The whole gun scene. And the whole humiliation aspect was not appealing at all.

Stefanie Kay and Oliver Clarke narrate the audiobook. I was fine with Stefanie Kay's narration. Oliver Clarke's though was not as great. You can tell he had to rerecord many lines and it was noticeable when dubbed in. I also just didn't like his tone for this type of book.

I loved Little House on the Prairie as a kid and have always been a fan of western-ish books- historical and contemporary. Cowboys are my romance book guilty pleasure. If there is a cowboy or a ranch, I will read it. This one was disappointing.

I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I am new to this genre and not opposed to the smut content of a book. It did not seem very realistic and very cliche. It was okay. maybe because of the theme it seemed like a western 50 Shades. I know others who love this book and if you are into the genre then this is for you. Thanks to NetGalley for the arc.

Thank you NetGally and Dreamscape Media for the ALC of “Sovereign” by Raya Morris Edwards.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. It was a lot more smut heavy than I thought it would be but I didn’t mind that. I did like the plot a lot and the character development of the FMC. The voice actors really brought the characters to life. I will definitely be on the lookout for book 2.

I had high hopes for this one I really thought I would love it, but unfortunately it did not have any plot. It was only full on smut. I thought it would get better but I got to 40% and I cannot do it anymore. It is just too much to be honest, there's so much that just does not sit right with me. The book content is just not working for me. I had to DNF.

First I would like to thank Dreamscape Media for providing me a copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This is the story of Keira Garrison, unhappy wife, she has never felt anything with her husband and when she meets Gerard Sovereign, Ranch owner and Garrison enemy, her entire life changes. After that first meeting her husband dies, her brothers in law start harassing her and Gerard offers her protection in exchange for her to be his sub. As Keira thinks through the proposal and goes through the "trial period" she learns so much about herself but is frustrated she can't figure anything out about Gerard. As their relationship develops, Gerard starts to open up to Kiera including explaining why he hates the Garrison's so much and his plan in life is to end that family....even if it means taking matters into his own hands.

What I liked:
- Gerard's reaction to Keira's relationship with her husband, you learn the Garrison family preyed on Keira after her father died when she was young and Gerard properly reacts (in disgust) by the revelation and help Kiera see without the Garrison lens
- Spicy, as this is a Dom/Sub relationship there is a LOT of very spicy scenes and a lot of Keira finding out what she actually likes/wants in bed
- Montana Ranchers, while reading I got a strong Yellowstone vibe with ranchers who don't like each other having to share land boundaries and aren't scared to play dirty to get what they want
- One for him, Gerard has been through a lot but once he finds Keira he knows she is his person and will do anything to get, keep and protect her. There are some things he does that are a bit extreme but also ends up being a bonding experience for the two of them

I wasn't quite sure what I was going into when I requested this book but it intrigued me and I'm happy I was able to read it. If you like audiobooks, Dreamscape does an amazing job with the quality of the audiobook and the narrators are fantastic with really making you feel a lot of what these characters are experiencing. If you are a fan of dark romances with dom/sub relationships, touch her and die vibes and an overall wild ride I would absolutely recommend you pick this book up.

Keira Garrison married young to a man that she thought she knew. The day they were married, things changed for the worse. At a meeting one night, she meets Sovereign, the equivalent to a king in land ownership and business. There was instant chemistry between them. Soon after meeting, her husband passed away and, unbeknownst to her, she was left with a mountain of debt. Sovereign, like the king he is, comes in and saves the day but with stipulations and a contract: her land in exchange for sex (Cue Rihanna’s “S&M” song). Of course, she was reluctant at first. Who wouldn’t be?

🌄 Hot romance
🌄 Instant chemistry
🌄 Savior complex
🌄 “I’ll take what I want”-MMC
🌄 Helpless FMC that finds her voice
🌄 Age gap

This is a cowboy romance that has more sex and bdsm than the plot. It is definitely a hot romance that seems to quench a thirst and create a desire as the reader moves through each chapter. If this is what you’re into and what you’re looking for, then go for it. If you’re looking for the slow-burn romance with more plot and depth, then put it down.

The author really hit me with the encounters right away and it didn’t stop. I know that was the intent considering the type of romance it is, but it was still a lot for me to handle. Even Sovereign was a giant in this story with a massive (you know what I’m talking about). The character of Sovereign was unrealistic and out of anyone’s league, although it is nice to dream.

I listened to the audiobook version and I just couldn’t get into the narrators. It felt too done and over the top. I would have enjoyed it more if I read the book. I give it 4 stars because of these reasons. I know what the author was going for and that’s another reason why I didn’t knock it down another star. It made me giggle, blush and smile and it is hard to find a book that does that for me.

Special thanks to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeMedia for this audiobook #ARC to review. Publication date is set for June 25, 2024.

I had such high hopes for this book and I was left a bit disappointed. I felt like it was a cowboy version of 50 Shades. It had great potential with the storyline but the amount of smut just took over everything. Don't get me wrong I enjoy a good smut book as much as much as anyone but this one just missed the mark for me.

This book is very kink heavy - I honestly have no problem with smut, in fact I thoroughly enjoy it. I just had a hard time wrapping my head around an abused woman easily entering into an BDSM relationship by force/coercion.

The narration was excellent, I thought the believability was a bit off.

Dark cowboy romance with dual POV, high heat, Dom-Sub, age gap and rival ranches. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Stefanie Kay and Oliver Clarke, they did a phenomenal job telling the story! There were times I was so captivated by the story I forgot what I was doing. This book had me blushing and clutching my pearls.

The story follows Keira who is in a miserable and unhappy marriage. During one of her husband's business meetings, she met his rival Gerard Sovereign. Gerard immediately knew he wanted her and just had to take care of her husband. After her husband's untimely death Keira was left with her late husband's ranch and debt. Gerard makes an offer; she signs his contract for her to be his submissive and in time her debt will be paid.

I needed more plot in the BDSM smut:plot ratio. I’d say it’s about 75:25. This can be great, but I don't think it worked here. I haven't read much BDSM smut to know for sure, however the vibes I got from this felt fairly cliche. Since the main characters jumped into their rolls so quickly (very insta-lust on top of the coerced contract situation), I missed the banter and tension that I crave in stories. This made it hard for me to connect with the characters and their minimal backstories. The FMC's character choices were driven by fear and playing her sub role properly. The MMC's character choices were driven by a need for revenge and a general "I get what I want how I want it" mindset. This book may work for a smutty, not much brain power needed read, but I wouldn't reach for it or recommend it for any other reason.

A major positive to this audiobook are the narrators. I appreciated their performances and didn't find much lacking to pull me out of the storyline.

I'd like to thank NetGalley, Dreamscape media, and Raye Morris Edwards for a ARC of this audiobook for a honest review.

Sovereign is a very adult dark romance. Trigger warnings dominate and summit. , physically dominant. Bondage

The narration was good for the book. It was the book content itself that I was back and forth on.

I knew going into it that I was listening to a cowboy bdsm book and I had no issue with that. But as the book progressed, it often just felt like a bit much to me. A bit much degradation, a bit much of the intense name calling, a bit much of everything.

I liked the basic plot line with Sovereign wanting vengeance for everything he'd lost. I could get behind that even if it was brutal and bloody. But Kiera was so young and had already been through a great deal in her short life. It just felt like he threw her in the deep end and hoped she could swim when he signed her up as his submissive.

Given the ups and downs in this book could very much have been my preference, I won't hold them against the author in my review. It just bothered me because I felt protective of Kiera I think. In the end, it seems they worked their relationship out and found common ground that was healthier and worked for them both. But it was definitely a bumpy road to get there.

Thank you to NetGalley for the complimentary listening copy.

Sovereign has been described as a combination of Yellowstone and 50 Shades of Grey. That is an accurate description. This is a dark, dirty smutty read. I would say that this is not for first time dark romance readers. I read the first half of the book on my kindle and the switched to the audiobook and am so glad that I did. I listen to a LOT of audiobooks and this was my first with these narrators. The audiobook is well done and was much more enjoyable for me than the ebook. Overall it is a decent book and I will recommend it to my fellow smutty readers.
