Ellie and Ichabod return in an continuation of their adventures from the first book. The supernatural detectives are still working on some random cases but we also get a glimpse into what may have happened to Ichabod. Some of his past does include an old flame, Maris.
Ellie finally does admit what happened to her with Alice as well which is helpful to the group as a whole. She also is coming more into her powers which is fun to see.

Opinions are my own
This volume is a great continuation of where the story left off. We are still trying to figure out what Alice wants with Ellie. We are still trying to figure out what happened to Ichabod to make him how he is now. And I'm still trying to figure out how a guy with a jack-o-lantern for a head has so much sex appeal. 😂
I really enjoy the action and mystery mixed with the subtle relationship development between Ellie and Ichabod. I can't wait for the next volume.
Published by Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group and available October 29, 2024 (just in time for spooky season), Third Shift Society Vol. 2 continues the supernatural exploits of Ellie and Ichabod. In the previous volume, Ellie discovered her psychic powers and began working for Ichabod, a supernatural detective who happens to have a pumpkin for a head. The illustrations are charming and spooky and the world is populated with diverse monsters, making it a treat for fans of series like All Saints Street. Ellie continues to be a likeable and relatable protagonist-- who among us wouldn't spring for a monster-hunting gig with a cool boss that pays well? This volume will most appeal to people who have already read the first volume/season on WEBTOON, but the series as a whole will appeal to fans of weird and wonderful media like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural.
Another great addition to the world of the Third Shift Society! I'm super intrigued by Ichabod's dead-looking hand and what happened to bring him to where he is now - i.e. living as a pumpkin-headed detective for the supernatural. I'm also invested in his and Ellie's budding romance. There's age-gap, size difference, and she-saves-him / he-saves-her elements.
Meredith Moriarty delivers another thrilling ride into the supernatural with "Third Shift Society Volume 2", where paranormal mysteries, quirky characters, and a healthy dose of humor collide. This action-packed sequel takes readers deeper into the strange world of the Third Shift Society, where psychic investigator Ellie and her mysterious, pumpkin-headed boss Ichabod tackle creatures that make the night far more dangerous than it seems.
At the heart of the story is Ellie, a once down-on-her-luck young woman whose life took an unexpected turn when she discovered her latent psychic abilities. In Volume 2, Ellie has grown more comfortable with her powers, though she still has plenty to learn as she and Ichabod face increasingly sinister threats. Their cases now involve cryptic witches, terrifying demons, and ancient monsters with a thirst for destruction. Despite her clumsiness, Ellie’s determination to prove herself is infectious, and her bond with the enigmatic Ichabod adds layers to the narrative, especially as their partnership deepens.
Moriarty’s character development is one of the series’ biggest strengths. Ellie’s evolution from a struggling, uncertain woman to a more confident psychic investigator is both relatable and engaging, making readers root for her success. Ichabod, with his pumpkin head and mysterious past, is an equally fascinating figure. His calm demeanor and cryptic knowledge of the supernatural world create an intriguing contrast to Ellie’s spirited approach, balancing the duo’s dynamic. Their witty banter and growing camaraderie bring heart and humor to the otherwise dark and eerie cases they solve.
Moriarty doesn’t shy away from high-stakes supernatural drama in this volume. With shadowy witches plotting in the background and ancient creatures threatening to break free from their psychic prison, the tension ramps up with every chapter. Fans of paranormal mysteries and fantasy will be drawn to the creative, monster-filled world Moriarty has built, where danger lurks around every corner and the only way to survive is to embrace the unknown.
For readers who enjoy fast-paced stories with a mix of suspense, humor, and supernatural intrigue, "Third Shift Society Volume 2" offers a thrilling experience. The stakes are higher, the enemies more dangerous, and the mysteries more cryptic, keeping readers hooked from start to finish. Moriarty weaves together action, character growth, and supernatural danger seamlessly, ensuring fans of the genre will find plenty to love in this installment.
Whether you’re following Ellie and Ichabod’s adventures from the beginning or diving straight into Volume 2, Third Shift Society* is an addictive series that keeps readers guessing—and eagerly turning pages. With its quirky characters, spooky vibes, and escalating dangers, it’s a must-read for anyone who enjoys a supernatural mystery with heart.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
I’ve missed this world of paranormal shenanigans with lovable characters! After a helpful recap, volume two of Third Shift Society picks up right where volume one ended. I enjoyed the development of Ellie and Ichabod’s relationship as well as the insight on Ichabod’s backstory. The history of how he came to be is really interesting! It ends on a cliffhanger, and I’m looking forward to the next volume!
Ellie is a newly discovered psychic who helps her boss, Ichabod, at his paranormal PI service. ALso, he has a pumpkin for a head.
Did you read Vol. 1? If not, I suggest you do that before going any further. Don’t worry, I’ll wait for you folks here. If you have already read Vol 1, feel free to continue.
…
Did you like Vol 1? If you did, great! You’ll like Vol 2 as well! We get to learn more about Ichabod’s backstory and we get more plot and less exposition. You know the drill. I actually really enjoy the storyline and its blend of comedic and spooky elements. Ellie is weirdly relatable and Ichabod is weirdly hot (Author’s Note: Don’t you judge me) so I think they make a good pair. I thought that the story where they help the ghost man was actually really sweet and was probably my favorite part. I feel like I have to make an obligatory statement about how much I like the artwork and I do! Overall, I really enjoy this series and can’t wait to read more.
I’m so invested in this investigation of Ellie’s and Ichabod. I don’t know what it is about the pumpkin head guy that is so cute and endearing but it works.
Parts of the story felt a little stiff but overall the plot and art was engaging and enjoyable.
Thanks to netgalley and WEBTOON for an eARC
This is one of my favorite webtoons to read. It’s paranormal detectives, mystery, will they won’t they romance, and pure fun. There’s high stakes and the building to something much bigger with multiple enemies to worry about.
My favorite moment in Volume 2 is when Ichabod and Ellie get a little down time and she tries on this beautiful dress and dances with him. In the middle of all the chaos. Dealing with a mark on her hand that binds her to something she’s not even sure about. Dealing with this world of magic and monsters she just recently came to know to be true. Dealing with knowing there’s something coming that is evil and scary and yet, they have this moment together. They don’t know if the next fight or the next will be the end of them, but they took the time to share a moment of joy. That was so beautiful to me.
The beating heart of this WEBTOON are the characters and their relationship to each other. The art style and the unique monsters and mystery are all fun and entertaining. However, in the end, because the characters have such beautiful and real connections to each other, that’s what makes this WEBTOON unputdownable. I loved it.
I cannot wait for Volume 3!
This is a very satisfying continuation of this graphic novel. I can't wait till the next volume. I have really become invested in Ellie and Ichabod.
Let me start by saying I am in love with Ichabod. Meredith Moriarty, how did you create a charming and sexy character with a pumpkin head?! (it's the suit, right?)
Volume Two is a collection of a few more subplots while we continue with the story of Alice's curse, Oberon's meddling and Ichabod's past. Loved these chapters and I'm so ready to read more and see how the whole series comes together.
Life’s funny. One minute you’re jobless, deep in debt, and on the verge of eviction; the next you’re in a fight with a monster and getting a job working for a paranormal detective with the head of a Jack-o-Lantern. It’s an age-old story.
I'm coming into this with the 2nd volume but thanks to the summary in the beginning I had little trouble catching on.
I loved the characters, especially Ichabod, the pumpkin headed boss of this gang.
We pretty much have everything you could want here; witches, demons, and monsters. Even a potential romance...
The art work is great and the story is very cohesive.
Perfect for the Halloween season.
Thanks to @netgalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group | WEBTOON Unscrolled for the opportunity to read this eArc in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
Absolutely loved this! The plot is getting so interesting - Ichabod is still a mystery, the tension between him and Ellie!? I'm totally side-eyeing those demons and I'm not sure what to think about Alice? I binged this in one sitting and admittedly was very sad when I ran out haha. I need moooorrrreee! The author has a way of hooking readers and the art feels spooky yet somehow cozy?
All in all, definitely recommend it! Especially perfect for spooky season!
A big thanks to Webtoon and NetGalley for the ARC, all opinions are my own.
The story of the clumsy but determined, Ellie, and her pumpkin-headed boss, Ichabod, continues in this story of magic, monsters, and mayhem. That's right, the second season of the WEBTOON comic “Third Shift Society” by Meredith Moriarty has been released! Time to dive into the story!
Don't worry about forgetting anything in the story - it happens - because there's a quick summary in the beginning.
New challenges (and drama) emerge, especially with the arrival of Maris, Ichabod’s witchy ex. And the stakes rise as they face cryptic witches, mischievous demons, and ancient monsters.
The illustrations are detailed, with expressive word bubbles that make even Ichabod’s pumpkin head emote! Moriarty continues to balance action, humor, and character growth, delivering a solid follow-up that fans will adore.
Overall: “Third Shift Society” Volume Two is an entertaining journey through a world where the supernatural feels both dangerous and oddly charming. Whether it's a showdown with demons or a ghost with a mysterious past, this graphic novel packs a punch and leaves you wanting to read more.
Rating: 4.8/5 Pumpkin Heads! 🎃
I love this story and I'm happy to see it in book form! I've been a fan of this story on Goodreads for a while, and I enjoyed getting to re-read it in book form with this NetGalley e-book.
Moriarty has crafted really interesting characters, and in this story, she takes them on new adventures while deepening the mystery. I really like our protagonist, Ellie, and I've enjoyed following as she learns more about her powers and starts to get a handle on her blue flames. I also love Ichabod-- he's kind and protective, smart and quick on his feet. His story is growing even more fraught, and in this book, we find more questions than answers.
The episodic adventures are pitch-perfect, showing how Ellie and Ichabod are learning to work together, overcoming their weaknesses with training and teamwork.
The art is great, the story is fun, and I can't wait for more!
I tore through this volume. I love the mystery and the side stories that all tie back together into the larger plot. The art is great. The characters are likable and I care what happens to them. I cannot wait to get more backstory about Icabod and Maris. I will certainly keep following this story to see where it goes!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book before publication.
I fell in love with volume 1 when I read it, and was super excited to see volume 2 on NetGalley. The art captures the characters and action of the plot beautifully. The relationship between the 2 main characters is growing at a realistic pace and deepens the story further.
If you like ghost hunting, supernatural fixers for hire, and a sweet relationship between the main characters, then this series is perfect for you!
I can't wait for volume 3.
Volume 2 of Third Shift Society is an exhilarating continuation of the supernatural adventures of Ellie and Ichabod. Moriarty masterfully blends humor, heart, and high-stakes action, drawing readers into a world where the bizarre becomes routine. The artwork is stunning, with vibrant colors and dynamic panels that capture the chaotic energy of their battles.
Ellie’s growth in both confidence and psychic abilities is a joy to watch, making her an endearing and relatable protagonist. Ichabod’s unwavering support and quirky charm provide a perfect balance to the eerie mysteries they face. The introduction of cryptic witches, sinister demons, and ancient monsters raises the stakes, and every new twist feels earned and thrilling.
Moriarty’s storytelling is sharp, fast-paced, and sprinkled with humor, ensuring readers are hooked from start to finish. This volume leaves you eagerly anticipating what comes next, and it’s impossible not to root for this unlikely duo. If you love supernatural detective stories with heart and humor, this graphic novel is a must-read.
Thanks NetGalley and Webtoon!
What a great volume 2. My patrons are going to love the second one as much as the first! This was a great find and I look forward to more character development. This volume gave more insight to Ichabod and some backstory including a former love interest, Maris who is also a witch. Maris is a great addition to the series who is helping Ellie figure out her powers and what the mysterious mark from Annie means. The duo still have the usual hijinks investigative storyline and looking forward to the next one!
Webtoon is killing it with their series finally being published in a physical format! I haven't read one I haven't loved yet so thanks so much from a huge fan.
First off I love anything supernatural that also has a play on icabod crane in it. So I was sold the second I picked up the first book.
This definitely lived up to the hype and left me hanging for more.
I need to know where this story is going and what is going to happen next.
