A Great Big Visual Hug by Andrés J. Colmenares
Pub Date: Sep 10 2024
I have read many of these "instagram art series turned book / collection" type graphic novels, and my opinion is much the same as it always it: if you enjoy this artists work, and want a physical collection, you can't go wrong with this.
This collection features some new comics that were not previously published, which is a nice touch. Overall, this series tends to be pretty cute and wholesome, and is a nice pick-me-up when needed.

The title does not lie, a hug in book format! Absolutely loved reading a few pages before bed each night :)
ALL the warm and fuzzy stars for this collection of adorable comics; it is truly the feel-good book of the year. Most will make you laugh, some will make you go "Awww!" This book would make a great gift for anyone who's feeling down, but be sure to keep a copy for yourself for whenever you need cheering.
I’m not familiar with the author’s work but this was perfect. It really did feel like a virtual hug with done laughs. I’ve already put it on my list of gifts to buy for others.
This is a very cuddly and cute book. I enjoyed it more than I expected. It really was very heartwarming.
This book was so cute! I will def keep a lookout for it to get a physical copy of this. It was like a big hug and I would read a few pages after a long day. Loved it!
I have never seen a book with a title as fitting as this one. Yep, it is a great, big, visual hug. No matter what mood you're in when you dive into the pages, it will warm your heart and put a big smile on your face.
I am so grateful a book like this exists. I hope the artist keeps enjoying his craft for a long, long time.
Is this collection a great big virtual hug?????!!!!! Yes! It’s delightful and sweet. And also a fast little read! Definitely recommend if you’re in need of a pick me up or you want to brighten someone else’s day. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
(Thank you to Andrés J. Colmenares, Andrew McMeel publishing and NetGalley for letting me read this ARC)
This graphic novel is filled with adorable art, funny puns and cute stories. It’s a mix of a few different characters as well as some nice motivational stories and quotes.
It’s a great book that will make anyone smile or giggle at the cute art and stories in it.
My only complaint is that I wish it had a tiny bit more of a structure, but that is a me-thing and not the author’s fault. Otherwise I have no complaints and would recommend it to anyone who loves some cute art and some silly puns.
Content warning! This is what your face will look like the entire time you are reading this compilation of Wawawiwa Comics: 😁
Seriously, I was grinning from ear to ear. Page after page. Who knew that animals and inanimate objects (even pasta) could bring so much joy.
Here are a few examples:
🌞🌎The moon making shadow puppets on the earth's surface to amuse a bored sun.
🐎 A bird taking a nap on the back of a pony is mistaken for Pegasus wings.
🐑Mama and Daddy sheep jump over a fence to help their little lamb nod off at night.
🍟A choir of French fries.
🍝Pasta relaxing in a hot shower.
And so many more. . . A big thank you to my GR friend Rosh for once again introducing me to a delightful read. This one is going on my Christmas list for smiles every day of the year.
A big thank you to Andrews McMeel Publishing (a local company) and NetGalley for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
5/5 stars
I've been following the author on instagram for a few years now so I'm really happy to be able to get this in NetGalley, thank you for the opportunity!
The title of this book fits it perfectly, I have to say! Such cute illustrations and little stories. It's definitely something you pick up when you're feeling blue. The colors and the various inanimate object/animal characters of the book was so fun to see. To be honest, I really did pick this book up when I need a mood raiser and I'm happy to say it did the job! I think this book just exudes comfort.
I LOVED THIS!! I love seeing comic strips like these on social media, so a book FULL of them was amazing!!! I loved every single one, it either made me smile or tear up a bit, and I loved every minute of it! Wish there was more!
This is so sweet 😄. It really made me smile, laugh and encouraged, I can't wait to come back to this book when I feel sad or just need something to lift my spirits.
This book is exactly as described - a great big visual hug. It features a unique art style that leaves the reader feeling joyful and laughing. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a pick-me-up, or just a fun read in general. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
This book is the perfect pick me up for anyone having a bad day, a hard time, under the weather, etc because it will bring a smile to your face and is like getting a warm hug from a friend. I dare anyone to not at least get a chuckle or a smile from any of this fun, colorful cartoons.
This book is perfect for all ages and for anyone needing a pick me up.
**Thanks to the author and publisher for the e-arc I received via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.**
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own
The most appropriately named book I have ever set eyes on.
These comics brought me so much joy and I know they are something I can reach for with I have a bad day and smile. Pure joy. Except for the little black dog with it's human. That one made me cry.

comics/humor, series - a collection of Colombian cartoonist and illustrator Andrés Colmenares' favorite Wawawiwa comics, which are pretty much as cute and cuddly as you'd expect. The drawings look deceptively simple, yet this odd community of friendly creatures and pastries makes me chuckle -- I don't know how this works, but it does. Thank you.
This was just fantastic and absolutely what I needed at this very moment [it is filled with colorful, uplifting, comics that make you smile no matter what mood you are in] and anyone, young and old alike, will love this book and I know I will be going back to it over and over on days I feel blue for a lovely pick-me-up.
Very well done!!
**A side note: I highly recommend this author and all of his other books as well as this one. He is a brilliant and gifted artist [who's illustrations just resonate with you and make you smile, laugh, feel], and everyone should be checking out and reading his books!!
