I selected this comic because I’ve been seeing his illustrations all over the place and I was in the mood for something sweet and funny.
Every illustration in this is sooo cute
This is definitely what it claims to be a great visual hug!
(Thank you Netgalley for this arc)
The title is really all you need to know about this book!
Each page is a delight. the panels are all touching sentimental moments or funny happenings that everyone can relate to. This is going to make a great gift book for yourself or anyone you love.
These were so so cute! The animation is great, and there were several of the comics that I hadn’t seen online. I really loved that there was a variety, as well - the food, and the animals, and everything! It was great!
I blew through this book in under an hour. The comics are all very short, around 1 page each and mostly consist of pictures, so this was a very quick read. The panels are all so clever and heartwarming and fun. I have a bone to pick with this book though, because I was not expecting to cry while reading this. I expected a hug, but ended up with a mini sob session after reading a 4-panel comic about a dog. I’d still recommend this read because it’s very entertaining, plus it would be a great book to share with your family and friends! I’d honestly flip through this again and again. It would make a great coffee table book and conversation starter!
I selected this book because I was in the mood for a comic, and the idea of a visual hug sounded so pleasant. I read briefly read the description beforehand, so I knew that this would be a collection of comic strip style pieces. When I opened the ebook, though, I got so excited, because I realized I’d seen these comics on instagram before! They show up on my explore page from time to time, and my sister and I have sent many of them back and forth to each other. It was a joy to read through this collection of them. The comics are clever and colorful, and the artwork is absolutely adorable!
Personal note: I recommend listening to some cozy/chill lofi music while reading this.
This was a cute little collection of comics. I really liked the animals and situations they were put in.

"A Great Big Visual Hug", as its name suggest, is a hug in book format.
The illustrations are cute and the comics are funny. It's a book that is going to make you smile.
On the downside, if you follow Wawawiwa Comics on instagram, it's pretty much the same experience. I would love if the comics were grouped by theme, or follow some kind of order to give some "extra" context. Except supporting the author, there is no added value in the book.
That being said, it's a great book that can be read in one sitting. I think it'll be a great experience for anyone.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received an electronic ARC from Andrews McMeel Publishing through NetGalley.
Delightfully funny comics from Colmenaries. You can read this straight through or appreciate them one at a time to make the humor last. I appreciate the way the author/illustrator uses simple drawings and characters to create his messages. The title says it all - this is a collection to make a reader feel welcomed with humor.
Funny, funny, funny! I'm so grateful for this arc because i discovered a new favorite. the comics are sarcastic and the style is adorable. Can't wait to own my own paperback copy
A Great Big Visual Hug collects some of the most popular Wawawiwa comics, maybe you have seen some of them over the Net (i.e. Instagram) They are adorable one-page comics (or most of them at least), I completely love the artwork.
I couldn't stop laughing or smiling from the moment I started until I finished this book.
Thank you so much NetGalley for the eARC.
I love Colmenares' comics and was so excited to see this one on NetGalley and I'm happy to say it did not disappoint in the slightest. I find his comics cute, heartwarming, and funny. A few happy tears may even escaped as I read some of these comics. Highly recommend.
I really like collections like this one. Big Hug is a collection of comic strips about all sorts of things. They are heartwarming and charming little animals and creatures that express love, sadness, and have fun together.
The strips are whimsical and cute and made me laugh out loud a fair amount. Collections like this are easy reads - each strip is ~1-2 pages and you can set it down at any point or blast threw them like I did. They are great to pick up and turn to a random page just to get a goos laugh as well.
I have seen some of these comics online but don't actively follow the author/illustrator, so I was happy to see them all in one place together. I think that this creator is very imaginative and I love how they personify everything. My favorites were teh jack-o-lantern reading, the coffee and brain, and the little leaf that doesn't want to get out of the pool so mom gets the skimmer. (LOL, still makes me giggle thinking about it).
Overall, this book will certainly make readers smile, say awww, and for those that might just need a pick me up /encouraging read it would be a great addition or gift.
Review will be live on Sept 3.
Unexpected. Unexpectedly cute despite the cover and the descriptions (in a great way).
Some of the comics in this collection are truly funny, others bizarre and others plain cute.
The creators of this single page comic collection are geniuses.
A book filled with panels filled with cotton candy characters.
This was an absolutely adorable collection of mostly single page comics. For the most part they are quick and uplifting vignettes, featuring animals, celestial bodies and more. The art style is super cute and colorful, suiting the subject matter perfectly. This is perfect to burn through all in one session, or pick it up from time to time and read a few pages when you need a smile.
A Great Big Visual Hug was definitely a very cute and wholesome little book, and I really enjoyed reading it.
I couldn't stop laughing or smiling from the moment I started until I finished this book. This beautiful book has a way of connecting everyday life with humor, nostalgia, and tenderness that, in my opinion, make it unique.
I loved the artwork and the use of all different types of characters to depict the sayings. I have to admit that a few of them had me scratching my head, but others were so spot on with the picture and wittiness of the aphorism. I will definitely use this book with my speech students who are working on jokes and figurative language. Pairing pictures with words is a perfect way to address learning styles
An adorable selection of little comics, great for anyone who's already a fan of the artist, or just for someone who wants a little heartwarming giggle. Some really sweet ones in this, and a couple that had me a little teary.

The beautiful humorous heartwarming little snippets you would expect from the artistry that is Wawawiwa Comics.
The creator of this beautiful collection has such a way with finding the endearing and humorous moments in everyday life. The use of mundane items, animals, and more coupled with his talent for visual puns makes this book a must have. Highly recommended to have handy especially for days when things might not be going your way. This little book is bound to lift your spirits.
So being autistic I find myself thinking "I don't get it" a lot and it happened a few times with this book. But the art was so cute I didn't care if I didn't get the joke. So much fun and very silly.
