Oh wow, this was a brilliant read and so thrilling. Quite creepy at times and I got the shivers reading it. The ending was fantastic and I wasn't expecting that at all. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. It kept me interested throughout the whole story. I had no idea what the ending would be and I was captivated and surprised by how it ended.
So I read the description of this book and I instantly knew this book was a bit of me.
I didn't know I could read a full book so fast! One of the best books I have ever read. So so easy to read and keeps you guessing until the end.
Lots of twists but this book didnt hold my attention as much as I had hoped it would. An OK read
Thank you to Netgalley for the chance to read this ARC
I liked this book but I couldnt say I loved it. It just didnt have the wow factor for me. I also didnt connect to the characters and found myself putting the book down alot.
This is a gripping psychological thriller, full of unexpected twists and turns. The grand finale is an ending that will blow you away. I certainly didn't see that one coming!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
The story kept me guessing from the start. It was a well written mystery. I enjoyed my time reading this book.
Two families whose lives have been intertwined over the decades. They have shared the happy and sad times together but nothing prepares them for a murder in their midst...
The House Across The Street is a psychological thriller and murder mystery set in the UK.
Anna and Lily are best friends as well as neighbours. During a party, Anna sees a strange light in the Taylors' house opposite and goes to investigate. She finds Lily's dad murdered and has to break the terrible news to her friend. But this is only the start of the secrets that begin to unravel...
The book is written from multiple third person perspectives as well as Lily's in the first person. This allows little hints to be given to the reader which is great for raising the tension and anticipation for future plot developments. Anna and Lily have been through a lot together and their friendship has endured through past tragedies. I liked both women's characters and felt attuned to their emotions.
The style of writing is easy to read and the chapters are quite short so the plot develops reasonably speedily. The mystery of the murder is well maintained and there are some clever red herrings. There are some massive secrets revealed and, although I guessed some of them, most were a complete surprise, even up until the final page!
The House Across The Street is an enjoyable psychological thriller with a murder mystery at its heart.
Wow this book was twisty and wild!
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I began to read The House Across the Street. It didn’t instantly grab my attention, but once it did I was hooked! This is a fun, easy read that is perfect for the summer. The ending quite literally left my jaw on floor and was just perfectly executed.

Loved this one! Thrills and chills and plenty of twists. Brilliant from start to finish. A great book. Do read this one.
Anna and Lily have been lifelong friends. They live across the street from each other, Anna with her daughter, Cassie and brother Tim and Lily with her brother, George and father, Dr. Taylor. The book opens with Lily's father murdered in his own bed. Anna sees the killer, but he runs off. Shortly after the murder, she begins getting threats, and tells the police she will not help find the killer as she won't put her daughter in danger. We learn about the past and their friendship, but when tragedy strikes, George and Tim are no longer friends, but with them both home, things will eventually come to a head. There are secrets, such as who is the father of Anna's daughter, who killed Lily's father and some other undercurrents that keep the tension up throughout.
As I read this story, I wasn't sure who to believe and if these were reliable narrators or not. The build up was a bit slow and at times, I was anxious to move quicker, but suddenly, things began to happen and their were several twists I wasn't expecting. There were a few things I figured out, but that ending threw me for a loop. This is a story of secrets and lies, friendship, family and more. Overall, this was a suspenseful mystery with family drama and events that I enjoyed.
The House Across the Street has so much happening and I don’t want to put any spoilers here. It was so satisfying when I finally got to the reveal and parts of the story were explained. I appreciated the authors ascribed motive for the happenings in the story. I was also saddened by the ultimate ending. A great thriller that has you second guessing everyone!
This story was fast paced and thrilling! There were so many good twists and turns in this book, that I had whiplash by the end. While my heart was racing from all of the drama and twists, some parts had my heart breaking for various characters.
I was entertained and gripped by this clever plot as it developed in this well crafted book. Just when I thought I knew where we were headed, the author pivoted and threw in a twist that I didn't see coming. And can we talk about the epilogue?! The ending of this book had my jaw on the floor! I just had to sit there with my thoughts for a few minutes when the book was over. This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won't be my last!

I'm really enjoying twisty crime fiction novels lately and this was a great read - I dipped in and out of the audio book and ebook versions as I couldn't stop reading it for long!
The House Across The Street belongs to a respected retired doctor and his family, their children Lily and George grew up across the road from her best friend Anna and her brother Tim (who are not on speaking terms since their teenage years). Both families have learnt to keep secrets in the years they've been neighbours and when Lily's dad, Dr Taylor, is murdered it starts to unravel all the lies that have been told in the past, with devastating consequences.
I'm not exaggerating when I say there are twists up until the very final page - this is a real page turning rollercoaster and whilst you might guess a couple of the twists, as I did, there are so many you'll almost have whiplash! A great read for the summer holidays if you love a gripping page turner.
Wow!!! What did I just read?! Holy twist which I did not see coming! An addicting read you do not want to miss! Thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own. Rating: 4 stars Publication Date: July 15, 2024
A gripping thriller that is quite hard to put down with twists and turns that make it an addictive read.
The murder of the village’s doctor has a small pool of suspects for the police. Meanwhile, the victim’s daughter and son are devastated. The victim’s daughter Lily has the steady friendship of next-door neighbor Anna at this most difficult time. However, Lily is not the only one experiencing difficulties. While thrilled that her brother Tim is back in town, Anna’s role as a single mother has hit a few bumps. For starters, Tim left town a decade ago due to serious situation. Now that he is back, Lily is thrilled that her daughter will be able to get to know her uncle. Along with Tim’s difficulties when it comes to assimilating himself again, Anna begins having troubles.
From threatening notes to the appearance of her ex-boyfriend, a boy she loved beyond distraction, Anna’s life is being turned upside down. There is an underlying current in this latest book by Jill Childs, and it is one that gave me chills as I read the book. It is beyond clear that something terrible is weighing on Anna, and that makes for an incredible amount of tension in this story.
The relationships in this book are everything. The best-friend relationship Anna and Lily share. Lily’s loving relationship with Anna’s daughter Cassie. Anna’s relationship with her brother Tim. And the hidden relationship(s) that are revealed at just the right time. Then factor in the twists and turns, and this book will leave you thinking and even hurting a bit.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
A gripping thriller that you will find hard to put down. It’s a book of secrets, lies, friendship and revenge and just when I thought it was coming to an end, there was another twist that I didn't guess! A fabulous read that will keep you hooked to the end. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Jill Childs for the chance to read and review!

Thanks to Jill Childs, Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC of The House Across The Street. This is the first book I have read by this author, but won't be the last! Her characters were well developed and interesting. This was an enjoyable weekend read. Once I began reading I wanted to continue onto the next twist or turn. The character of Anna came across as very heartfelt. She wanted to help, but as a Mother she had to put her daughter's safety first.
